Anyone else have any Summer projects? I'm a hardcore DIYer and always have a project going on at home. My latest is a small sunroom addition. I was lead to this project as I had a small tornado/bomb shelter off my basement, under a cement slab. Well, the house was built over 50 years ago & the cement slab was leaking water badly, so it had to be replaced. Turns out for about the same cost of getting a new slab with rebar that would span that distance, I could build a sunroom...so I am :) Here's what I've got so far... |

Looks good. I always have projects for hubby. Oh I help but when it comes to building I supervise :p. Look forward to seeing pictures when it is finished. |
1 Attachment(s) You are going to really love that sun room. I can't wait to see it when you get it done. Although not near as much work as your sun room, we are in the process of putting a pergola over our deck. The back of our house catches the south sun and lets in a lot of heat so the pergola is to help shade our deck/dining room and make being outdoors on the deck more enjoyable. That's our DIY summer project. It's still a work in progress and now I get to do some landscaping...:) |
Our summer project this year was our waterfalls, stream and pond. We allowed so much money to go towards it every Month since february and finally got all the rocks to complete it last month. Now we are doing landscaping, water plants and koi. Eventually I want to do a sunroom too. We have a gazebo on our back deck and thats where we want to put the sunroom. We really need it because the only place where you can see the pond from the house is an upstairs hallway window and we want to be able to enjoy it in the winter. My husbands dad did a sunroom and one of the ways he saved money was instead of windows he used a bunch of sliding glass doors and it was nice because you could open it up also the sliding glass doors just looked like big open windows. He also put a little skylight in his. It was really cute. He had french doors leading into it. Good luck with your summer project they are so fun and rewarding when they are done |
2 Attachment(s) We (husband and I) had to redo our shower due to a wooden window seal in the shower are leaking behind the tile. We are still waiting on it to 'dry' and get finished! |
You are absolutely going to love your sunroom! We had one built of the back of our house which is our gameroom/relaxing/let loose room now! The kids love to play pool/video games in there. Our latest project is to turn my unused bedroom into a sewing/arts and crafts room for me! Yea! I'm slowly cleaning out the stuff that was just stored in there and can't wait to sew and embroidery more for my two little munchkins! Good luck on your project! |
Oooo I am making a sewing room too! I just need to find a nice desk for my sewing machine. My only other project is painting our two bathrooms. Last year I painted the whole rest of the house, so the bathrooms don't seem so bad! We have a small bathroom on the main floor and some leftover paint from the kitchen and hallway (almost lime green, but not so bright! I think it's called Grass Cloth). So I'm painting that bathroom the same color  It's currently a really really really dark reddish brown color and it makes the room feel so closed in! For our main bathroom upstairs, I think I'm going to go with a robin's egg blue. Right now it's very dark forest green. The old owners of the house painted the rooms so dark! |

Oh and replacing our old, old, old wall to wall carpeting with hardwood flooring. And painting everything! |

Today the walls are going up on my sunroom! That should be the easy part....figuring out how to tie it into the existing roof is probably where the difficult part will come... |

Wow, you got a lot done today! It looks great! |
I'm taking my pilot's license - does that count? It's 6 hours a week of ground school, six hours a week of flight class/flying and (much to my dismay) lots and lots and lots of reading. (plus working full time and two hours of bootcamp a week). What was I thinking?????? |
[QUOTE=linz06;3589412]Oooo I am making a sewing room too! I just need to find a nice desk for my sewing machine. I purchased a 1960 artdeco sewingmachine cabinet with a 70s machine in it yesterday at Good Will for $60. Check your older sewing repair shops too. What kind of machine do you have and how old is it. Sometimes it is easy to find a good one if you know how to measure for the mounts and hole size. |
