SEVERE Earache - Sinus Infection HELP!!!! HELP!!!! HELP!!!! HELP!!!! I got a sinus infection towards the end of our vacation last week....actually the day we left to return home. I couldn't get into my doctor on Friday when I returned home because he was already doubled-booked. The doc's nurse said that the doc said it sounded viral, and to use Mucinex, Tylenol for pain, and drink plenty of fluids. I knew this was not going to work. He's done this to me twice before (won't let him do it again for sure). I immediately started some left-over Amoxicillin, but to no avail. I also couldn't get into the Saturday clinic at the main location, because they COULDN'T VERIFY MY INSURANCE!!!!! BC/BS offices are closed on weekends!! I have been going to Scott & White Clinic for 21 FREAKIN' YEARS!!! Now, they said I could private pay if I would like. Had I known that I was going to be near death before today, I would have given my life savings to have prevented this! Yesterday, I got in to see him, and he prescribed Z-pack antibiotic. I'm living on Tylenol for sinus and ear pain! The congestion is so bad that I can't even get my netti-pot to work!! This afternoon the doctor called in an ear treatment called Antipyrine & Benzocaine Otic Solution. It hasn't even helped. So, I took more Tylenol. I hear Sudafed could help, but my blood pressure is high because of the unbearable pain. It normally does not run high. I'm afraid the Sudafed will escalate it and I also drank 2 Dr. Peppers today which don't normally do. Guess I was feeling sorry for myself and had one heck of a pity party. Sorry for the long story. I'm just in such misery that I need some advice from others that may have gone through this. HELP!!!!! |
:( Sorry you are feeling so lousy. If you can't take Sudafed, maybe Coricidin HBP will help? It's cold medicine for people with high blood pressure...it has a decongestant in it, which might help relieve some pressure. Hope you feel better soon! |
Do you have any really hot sauce or salsa? When I have a headache due to sinus pressure sometimes that will make my sinuses drain and relieve the pressure. Also, I've found that a netipot can sometimes make things worse, really concentrate the congestion so that it is especially difficult to make it drain. Well, that's my experience, anecdotal, anyway. I hope you get some relief. |
If it becomes unbearable go to the er.. I know that is extreme but your blood pressure going to high is dangerous |
No medical advice, just sending sympathy. I never realized how awful a sinus infection could be until I had one a few years ago. Absolutely miserable. Hang in there and hope you are able to get the correct medical treatment. |
This is the regimine for allergy/sinus sufferers: Mucinex (I use the 1200 mg); Sudafed; Allergra or Zyrtek or Claritin; and a simple saltwater nose spray. Oh, and the painkiller if you need it. LOTS of fluids like water or juice. My BP sometimes runs on the high side too - but if I couldn't take Sudafed on my really bad sinus days . . . I would go crazy with sinus pressure/pain. However, if you can't take it - you can't. I'd try all the other to try and thin out the mucus. The Zpak should be kicking in soon! Hope you feel better. |
I grew up with sinus problems and ear infections. One thing you can do to help the ear pain is using a heating pad. My mom always put my head on one and it really did help. She also used warmed sweet oil drops in my ear. Drop them in and then put a cotton ball to keep air and stuff out of the ear. I feel for you. Earaches suck! |

I have Allegra and Claritin in the medicine cabinet. I hardly ever suffer from allergies so I didn't even think about them. I think my "caregiving" experience from taking care of my mother has kicked in. I'm thinking ALOT and what I can do for myself. I have to because I don't have anyone else to think for ME! That's where y'all come in!!!:D:D I'm hoping by Thursday I'll be feeling better. The Zpack needs to kick in and PRONTO! Quote:
AGAIN, THANKS GUYS! YOU ALL HAVE HELPED SO MUCH! |
I think anything that can be warm will work!! :D I have lots of cornmeal. Wish I could send it your way!! :) |
Oh Lila, I'm so sorry you aren't feeling any better. I have suffered with both symptoms before and I feel your misery.:( Heating pad is my fix all too. I have used it for ear pain before and it really helped. My thing for sinus infection, along with good meds is to boil a pot of water, put a towel over your head and let the steam go to work. Drink lots of fluids and lots of rest! Hoping your feel much better soon |
I hope you are out of pain and start to feel better very soon. I'm sorry that I can't help you more, but I do care.:getwellso :daisy: |
:( I feel so awful for you. I have had ear problems since i was a child, i kno how painful they can be, i use to use a heating pad for the pain, im not sure though if that was my moms remidi or the doctors, i just know one time the pain was so bad i did go to er and they put meds right in my ear with some sort of plug that had to be removed by my family doc. hope you feel better very very soon ~ |
I hope you start feeling better soon. |
