Everyone tells me the regular Mucinex is for chest congestion, and that the Mucinex D (same ingredient as Sudafed) is for the head. So, I chose the Sudafed because the two pharmacists told me that is what they use and have had good success with it.

I have Allegra and Claritin in the medicine cabinet. I hardly ever suffer from allergies so I didn't even think about them. I think my "caregiving" experience from taking care of my mother has kicked in. I'm thinking ALOT and what I can do for myself. I have to because I don't have anyone else to think for ME! That's where y'all come in!!!:D:D

I'm hoping by Thursday I'll be feeling better. The Zpack needs to kick in and PRONTO!




You know, now that you say that, when I was little, my mother used to heat up cornmeal in a sock (does that tell you my age?:eek:;)) and put it on my ear. I still remember the smell and how good it felt. I looked in my cabinet this afternoon for some. Didn't have any!! I'm thinking about opening up a cornbread package to see if it would work.

Hopefully, everything has kicked in now - cornbread and all! Mucinex is for chest congestion - but it will also help to 'thin' the mucus in your sinus areas and to better 'drain' (sorry); so it's not all clogged up in there and causing you pain.

But if you are taking Sudafed - don't take the Muxinex 'D". I'm sure you know that already!

Hope tomorrow is a better day. I know when I have a sinus infection; I get depressed; I'm slow; can't think clearly. . . ugh. It's awful.

Heating pad is my fix all too. I have used it for ear pain before and it really helped.
My thing for sinus infection, along with good meds is to boil a pot of water, put a towel over your head and let the steam go to work. Drink lots of fluids and lots of rest!

:thumbup: I forgot the steam! You can also take a super hot shower and let your bathroom get really steamy while you are in there. That usually helps just about everything, no?

I'm using my heating pad tonight. I have a dull pain right now, mixed with a few jabs of intense pain. I took Sudafed 12 hour and I think it has helped a little. I've been pushing the fluids today. I can't figure out why I'm so congested when my nose is running so badly.

That doesn't sound like much fun to me. But, I know when you are in pain, you would do anything to stop it. I can't remember having any pain like this since I was a small child.

I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad. I remember when Mexico had such bad wildfires a few years back that we could see the smoke in all the way in Central Texas. It can really play havoc with the sinus. Hope they will get the fires under control soon. The weather is so hot and dry everywhere. Our city has just put a Phase One warning about water usage on a scale of six phases. They start rationing at Phase Four.

I think I'm fixed up for the night. Going to take some Ibuprofen before bed. I've taken so much Tylenol the past 3 days that I'm afraid my liver is going to quiver!! I'll let the liver have some rest and start on the kidneys next. I've never been one to take a lot of medicine.

I have another question. The Sudafed apparently is doing it's job. My sinuses are not draining anymore and they feel dry but still very stopped ip. Wouldn't it be better to not take the Sudafed and let them drain? Will taking the Sudafed hinder the healing process? Is it good for the sinuses to feel dry and blocked? I feel very dy and clogged...not draining and clogged now.

I hope I never have this happen again! UGH!!

One more thing....i'm panicking because I can barely hear myself talk!!! When will this get better?!!!! Is there anything I can do to help it along?

I was really hoping to hear you were feeling better :( are your ears swelled maybe from infection, that mayb why your not hearing well.
your zpack should start to work with in 24hrs. maybe another call to
doc in the morning is nessasary. hugs & prayers for fast relief.

I could survive this if I could only HEAR. Both ears are plugged, probably from the infection. The doc called in Prednisone, twice a day, for 5 days. I took my first one today. I'll give it one more day to open the ears, then I'm going back in on Friday morning. I'm not going to spend another weekend in misery if I can help it. I, too, thought the Zpack would have already worked by now. I've taken it for 3 days now and the symptoms are only getting worse.

It's Friday morning and both ears are still plugged. VERY miserable feeling! Thanks for asking!:)

As far as now feeling better to at least clean house or even leave the house, I feel OK. I have so much medicine in me that I should feel pretty good! It's just these darned EARS! I'm going to the doctor this morning to see if there is anything else he can do for me. I think it's time for a different antibiotic. It hasn't helped at all that I can tell. At least I can tell him I gave it a chance.

I get outer ear infections (swimmer's ear) sooooo bad I am off to the ER. Go to the ER. They will give you percacet which will help you get through the next few days until you can go to your regular doctor. They will also prescibe an antibiotic. My BP was through the roof last I went for the ear pain, that it would not even register on the machine. They gave me percacet and kept me there for 2 hours to make sure my BP was ok. It was pain induced. As soon as the percs kicked in, my BP returned to normal. I know the pain you are in, it's unbearable. I cry and cry and cry, there is just NO relief for days. I called the doctor who told me to take 2 percs, 2 hours later take 2 advil, 2 hours later 2 percs, etc... for a few days. This helped so very much!

Good luck! Go to the ER! Dont' go all weekend in this kind of pain. Its not worth it! (((HUGS)))

I didn't read your whole thread, sorry!

It took my antibiotics 7 days to unclog my ears. It was so long that I actually called the doctor after 5 days and they told me it was normal and it could and probably would take 7 days for the ears to unclog. At that point it was annoying, but not painful anymore.
