I, for one, am NOT sorry to see him dead. He deserved to die much sooner than he did. Any trial would have been a circus and he's just not worth the taxpayers money if it came to that.

International law would not take precedence over U.S. law in this case. Many Al-Qaeda operatives have been taken into custody and will be eventually tried on U.S. soil. It would be the Justice Dept. (Eric Holder) that made the determination of where to hold a trial, although I'm sure at the direction of the President.

But...you're so very right.....political affiliation wasn't a consideration, it wouldn't have mattered who was President, the goal was to kill not capture.

Wow. Thank you for correcting my flawed statement. I completely forgot that the Geneva convention only applies to lawful combatants (i.e., not terrorists)...Embarassing...

Thank you for the link. I read the story about the DNA testing, but I have always been a great believer in seeing is believing. Oh, I know that pics can be faked, but I do believe that the American public (those that wanted to view) had a right to see this monster after his murdering heart stopped beating.

You are giving the street organizer from Chicago far more credit than he is due. Remember who has been skirting around Gitmo, and releasing many that are now back out on the line setting off Explosives killing Americans. This has been going on as far as tracking well before Barry became president.

Don't be embarrassed...these are very complicated, hotly debated topics. There are many different views nationally and internationally about the proper, legal way to handle combatants of any kind. Not everyone agrees on what constitutes a terrorist or if there should be any classification of combatants at all.

The political and legal wrangling are why Gitmo was not closed and not all of the detainees were moved to US soil for trial.

I think its a great day for Americans I just wish they wouldnt show people on tv celebrating it because i believe it will incite the terrorists. I just remember after 9/11 where they showed the pakistan people celebrating what had happened to us. I know its not the same because hes a terrorist but still it seems we should be handling this a little more delicately

Cindy....I would be willing to bet my bottom dollar...there are pictures. It may take pictures awhile to surface, but you know they exist. I do hope within my lifetime all of the details and documents about this operation are declassified. I don't need to see pictures to believe but would find it fascinating to read exactly how this was pulled off, also the thoughts of those directly involved.

Did you see the video of the compound immediately after the attack? This would have to be military video, as I'm sure no reporter was embedded with this stealth operation. And, you know if there is a video of the compound, they have video of Osama with the bullet holes to his head. I did hear the President was able to view/hear real-time video and audio reports.

Was wondering yesterday early evening why the threat level on all posts went higher. Could find no reason for it, no mil personnel were briefed, now I know. They killed that maniac and now the repercussions will come. OBL was but one of the group, Zawahiri is due to take his spot, and he is just as much of an SOB as OBL was. Praying that they finally change the rules of engagement in theater to benefit our side and let our military finish this swiftly and painfully for Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Not holding my breath on the ROE change though...Obama doesn't want the USA to be mean. :rolleyes:

Yeah, the political call to dispatch him on the spot was a no-brainer. Not for any politician who wanted a chance at re-election.

The real heart - the hard work and amazing bravery in this story - is that exhibited since 9/11 by the intelligence community, military (including first and foremost that incredible team of young Americans that landed and administered ultimate justice) and all of those unknowns who did their part and kept their mouths shut!

Now America doesn't have to pay the blood and treasure involved in capturing/securing, transporting, imprisoning, prosecuting and maintaining that thug medically for the rest of his miserable days, all the while Al-Qaida exploits every minute of it!

I have heard a couple of reports that the firefight didn't last that all that long, but that the most of the time on the ground was spent scrubbing the residence. It looks like a tornado went through it in those pictures!

May 1, 2011 is a day we need to celebrate forever as a small token of remembrance of what all those wonderful Americans did! My Flag is flying!

I have the one picture on Google. Just Google for images under his name + dead and you will see it - don't know if it is authentic. When anything happens I google the subject matter under the images subsection and you will get the first posted pictures.

It's true, he must have known he was going to die and that his death would be a triumph for all those working to bring him to justice.

Also the fact that he died using a woman as a human shield: a death with no honor, that forever marks him as the coward he was.

Actually, I respectfully disagree. The current administration changed strategy with respect to how much information the Pakastani government was receiving. The previous administration would alert the Pakistani government every single time they had intelligence of Osama's whereabouts prior to attacking, and then Osama would somehow get tipped off and escape. There is no mention of a joint operation with the Pakistani government, indicating that Obama gave the go for the operation without informing our Pakistani allies. This is a change in strategy from the Obama administration that the Bush administration failed to do for 8 years. Please, do not say that this was a "no brainer," as it is very clear that this was not an easy task and the entire CIA intelligence community and military is at the mercy of the Commander and Chief. I mean, even George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are crediting the current administration's resolve and strategy...I don't understand why the same sentiments in the elite level are not rebound in the masses.

I am not taking away the heart, and dedication of our intelligence community and soliders. I just think that it is important to realize that our intelligence community is led by one leader...they followed orders and triumphed.

I know, that was in response to someone else's comment about our liberal administration and what would have happened if Osama got a trial. In other words, it was insinuated that because Obama is "liberal" then Osama would have gotten off easy. That is why I stated that it was a "liberal" who ordered to kill him. In other words, there shouldn't be a distinction made between liberals or conservatives because ANY President would have shot to kill. That is independent of the strategy employed to capture in kill him. The strategy employed by the Obama administration was different than that of the previous administration. This strategy was successful, the previous strategy was clearly not. That is all I'm saying.

Those wonderfully brave Americans who actually did the hard and brave work of intelligence and then dispatching OBL actually took out a mass murderer whose thirst for killing innocent people was limitless and who lived his own life as a frank coward, in stark contrast to their heroic lives. They plot and plan, fly to his lair, land helo's or repel down, engage in a fierce firefight, breach his quarters and just go in after him, not knowing what in the world would happen next, find him, shoot him and others, collect his body, search and take what they need, blow up the dead helo and leave! To me what they did was the hard part.

I wonder if we will ever know their identifies or if they will have to be kept secret for their and their families' safety?

That was me, and I never insinuated he would have got off. Again, if he was captured, he would still be kicking 1-5 years from now. Even this administration would eventually have to do something. Obama and his cabinet did not find OSama, the CIA and the guys wearing the boots on the ground did, as well as finally greasing the right hands. 10 years later and we still talk about trials for those at Gitmo, let alone the ones we let go that are out back in their cells and bomb factories. I was nervous to send my dh on an airplane this morning. He had a scheduled business trip to Maryland. Thank God he landed and everything is ok. He said there was alot of extra security going on at the airport. I am also nervous about retaliation. I didn't personally know anyone who died in the attack on 9/11 but I was brought to tears today just hearing people relive where they were when it happened. Just remembering where I was... my kids were little and in school and they said all of the teachers were crying because some of their loved oned worked there.
They said on the news that some of those Navy Seals could have been around 22-23 years old. That means they were 12-13 when we were attacked. WOW!! So glad that cowerdly bastard is off of this planet.
He will rot is hell. The devil will get him good!
I just hope that as God had his arms around all of us when this creature was shot. I hope he still has them around us for protection from these other monsters!!

I can tell you this as a fact. You will never know the ID of the brave men who did such excellent work it will be secret for years to come as this is the way they work.
Another point I will make is that immediately on return to base they would resume normal duties as if nothing had ever happened.
I am not prepared to say how I know this but it is a fact.

I salute your brave men a job well done proving the fact that....

I agree with this statement. Even if this happened under Bush's watch I still would have the same feelings. It was the combined effort of all those that came before this administration and the ones now in charge along with all the other countless numbers of unseen faces that were final able to hunt down and dispatch this sick individual.
