Haha, Kaji looks sooo sleepy! Good job though! How is it on the stretchyness? The plastic clips, getting them that small you most likely would have to look online. There's nothing that small at Joann or Michaels.

Tell me about it! The D ring I bought is bigger than the ones on the harness you made me.

So far, it doesn't stretch. I did use whatever yarn I could find from my mom's crafty days as well as whatever needle I could find. The yarn I used is cotton. It is so tight it doesn't stretch at all. I think it might stretch over time. We'll see....

Yes, I am going to make mine with nylon. Here is a link to ordering all sorts of colored nylon: Omega Nylon Thread Size 2 - Annie's Attic Depending on what size Nylon thread you find, you may have to double strand it. That is what I will be doing, anyway.

I might find time on my trip to crochet one or two, but I have to get some things crocheted to send up to AL & MS where they were hit so hard by the tornadoes. So many lost everything and I am crocheting some dishcloths and small afghans to donate. But it should only take me a few minutes to do a harness, so I will try to slip one in this next week.

This harness is designed to be held together by the leash hook so it is not made to wear without a leash. That is the only time mine would have their harness on, so it was good for me. But modifications would be easy enough to add a buckle in addition to the D-rings.

My name on Ravelry is the same as here FLDebra -- I have not uploaded many pictures there but have tons that I need to put on. I bought a new camera some time back and it takes the small SD cards instead of the CF I used before. For some reason, I cannot seem to download my pictures to my computer from the SD cards! I even bought a separate card reader thinking it was the slot on my computer -- still cannot download them! I don';t know what the problem is. But when I get time I'll take the cards in to get CDs made -- then I can put them on my computer and get them on my Ravelry. (I sort of threw all that info in, in case anyone had experienced something similar and had an idea for me. )

Glad everyone was excited by the pattern as I was. I have lots of others. I will try to post a pet pattern once a week or so. I have other harness & leash patterns, sweaters, toys, even a bed!

The smaller the needle the tighter it will be. Personally I hate crochet. I much prefer knitting. LOL

The harness I made you, the hardware was "salvaged" remember? Most likely the original hardware was also sourced online.

I know. I just used that size as a reference. Maybe you can teach me to knit. I've always wanted to learn.

Deb, please post more patterns! I have no idea how to read them. As long as they have a detailed picture, I can copy it. That's how my mom taught me how to crochet.

It's not hard to read the patterns. It's mostly abbreviations, and once you memorize the abbreviations then it's easy. Most knitting/crochet books have a glossary in the back in case you forget.

Yes, your second attempt is much nicer -- tension is more consistent! New crocheters and those who have not "hooked" in a while tend to have inconsistent tension on their yarn (The hand not holding the hook is very important too!) This will give uneven stitches and sometimes a little lop-sided look to the project. You really caught back on quickly.

This is why I had such a hard time before and immediately after the surgery on my left elbow. The nerves in my elbow had affected my hand/fingers drastically and I could not feel the tension I was putting (or not putting) on my yarn. I had to work and rework my project, trying to get the stitches to be uniform, to the point of frustration. I just finally have gotten to the point I can do a little crocheting again. I made a cute little baby afghan for concretegurl. It was the same stitch throughout so easy for my first "getting-back-to-crochet project. I hope she likes it! This will make a nice second project for me to try.

If you used acrylic yarn for this -- I would not use it for a harness when real security is needed. Acrylic has a tendency to stretch too much, same with wool. Cotton might hold up pretty well. I have made beach bags that have taken a beating & the straps are still good & original shape. I still think the nylon will work best.

I'm so use to doing it my way. I've been doing it that way for as long as I can remember. I've been crocheting forever! I've always read a sample, not a written pattern. Call me old and set in my ways.

I'll try to post them periodically -- don't want to bombard the forum with too much crochet. If you ever have a problem with a pattern, just let me know. I can always explain the stitch or even point you to a youtube. I think there are youtubes on every stitch now. I think it is funny that you don't read the patterns and can crochet by sight -- I think that is quite a talent. I NEED a pattern for everything. I guess I don't have a good imagination.

This is the type of crochet that keeps my attention. yes, it is once again, food. These aren't my pics, but I have done the exact ones, I can tell the pattern they used, plus I never took pics of mine. I also tried to make a sackboy, but only got as far as one hand/arm and his head, then I lost interest, maybe bc he is not food.

I'm in a handmade gift swap with some friends and I have to finish it first before I can start stuff for the pup. But the wait is KILLING me LOL

I don't live near a JoAnn's (thanks for the link) and WalMart only has black nylon, and no suitable D-rings, so I bought two cheap $1 collars for the hardware. Added a buckle bc of wigglebuttedness, and I cut pieces of the collar (nylon web) and sewed them on for added strength under the D-rings. After crocheting, the harness was still stretchy, so I added a border of single crochet (sc) all around all the edges. This helped quite a bit. If I find it's still too stretchy, I'll take an old leash and sew it on the inside to stabilize it more. I also plan on adding some bling.... I didn't worry too much about gauge, as I have 4 dogs and figured it would fit one of them. Next one I'll pay more attention to get a better fit.. duh!

Kaji's turned out nice, and fits him good. Love the blue, I didn't take a pic of the black one on my pup bc it doesn't show up well!

Just a note: The stitches and abbreviations are listed on the last page... many patterns even have stitch diagrams with them... I haven't crocheted or knitted for decades, so I bought the 'Learn to knit/crochet' kits at WalMart as a refresher/relearn course. Also found out my neighbor crochets and has offered her assistance anytime I need it!
