I know this is gonna make me sound like a crazy yorkie owner... Does anyone have a vehicle that is really great for their pup? I'm down to just a Ford Mustang as my one & only vehicle and it really isn't working well with ZoE. There is no turn-off for the front passenger airbag and if I put her in the backseat the windows are so small she can't see out. I'm seriously thinking about polishing it up & selling it this summer. I need something a little more practical, that can handle my frequent trips to Home Depot AND works well for traveling with ZoE. I'm thinking something along the lines of a little SUV with folding back seats so I can haul things from my homedepot/lowes runs. Decent gas mileage would be nice too, cos I drive across the state to see my kids about once a month. Anyone have anything they love & would highly recommend?? |
I have my two yorkies in a carrier in the back seat. (each in their own carrier) We go to the mountains every weekend and they just lie down and sleep for the 2 hour ride. Its safer for them in a carrier and they dont seem to mind at all. |
I have a Honda CR-V and I love it. I alway put Wylie in his little carrier while traveling. He has plently of room. He usually sits in the back seat with my son. The seats do fold down for Hauling stuff and I average about 27 mpg. |
My cousin had a Hyundai Santa Fe but I don't know if the seats folded down. She used to take her two dogs in it when travelling. |
I have a Ford Mustang convertible and an older Ford Explorer.....guess which one I drive the most:D |

Just be sure to get a vehicle that has passed safety tests with a high rating so your baby will be safe in addition to having fun. |

I have a corvette, I know not very practical!! I put Pnut in the trunk/ back seat in his car seat, the back has the tear window so he loves it!! :D Dh made this thing where he tied down the car seat so it is secure. |

Yeah, Tibbe's car time is no fun as he can't see out trapped down there in his carrier so he just sleeps. He's a good dog doing that. |
Are you sure the airbag doesn't turn off? I drive a Mustang GT and it turns off automatically if there isn't enough weight in the seat (child) to activate it. You might check with the dealer or in the owners manual. Teresa |

I have a 2010 Jeep Patriot -- LOVE it! Very easy with Jackson (I've also traveled with a Rottweiler, too). It's a good "dog car", I think. I love it because it's not a huge SUV or anything but it's still bigger than a car (but drives really nice) and is not a gas guzzler. I have Jackson's carseat in the back and he can still stick his head out the window. I also can fold the seats down (and it's not just one big folding down seat, they each fold down separately). It's proven to be a good vehicle. :) The Honda Element seems like the ultimate dog car, though. I think they are stopping making any more brand new ones though but it may be worth looking into it. |
I've been home yesterday & today cos I've got electricians here wiring the basement I've framed out for my kids bedrooms & family room, so I've been on autotrader & edmunds all day looking at suvs & reading reviews. It's hard finding something I like the look of and has features I'd want. My son has a Jeep Wrangler. I love driving that! Especially in the summer with the top off and the tunes blasting :) But horrible gas mileage & not too great of a ride for long trips. I'm leaning towards the Ford Escape...not too big, decent gas mileage & great reviews! Premium sound & a moonroof are on my list of must-haves, and I'm thinking leather interior would be best for the pup:) |
