Mac Book?

So....my regular laptop is on the fritz....right now I can only use my iPad. I'm thinking about getting a Mac Book at some point. Does anyone have one? I would love to hear all opinions on it....why you like it, or don't like it....is it better than a PC and why, etc.

Thanks!

I have one. Love it. It is one of the cheaper ones (not the Pro) with white casing which does crack and break easily. Just make sure to get a warranty or get a Pro. Mine takes a constant beating and has worked well for me. Don't really like PCs at all since using Macs. The Office programs made for Mac aren't the best though. I think a new one just came out that I'm supposed to be trying. You can also put run two operating systems if you want, so you could have Windows also.

I got the Macbook Pro in January 2010 and I LOVE it. No regrets about getting it and will NEVER go back to a PC. I love this computer. <333 Never caused me any issues whatsoever. I'm an Apple geek now.

I have had the same Macbook for over 5 years now and it is still going strong. I owned PCs before this computer and none of them laster for more than a year.

I would say there are no drawbacks to buying a Mac. Some people complain about the pricing, but when you buy a new PC every year... you are actually saving a LOT of money by buying Mac.

Good luck! If you have any questions, let me know (my DH is Apple certified along with all the other certs), so I have a built in Apple genius at home :D

Oh wow!! That is awesome to know! Thanks! My hubby and I are getting ready to celebrate our 11 year anniversary and he told me to think about what I wanted. How horrible is it that I'm thinking technology instead of jewelry?? But, in my defense, my husband totally adores and spoils me ( and I him!!) and has gotten me a lot of jewelry already. Last year was our 10 year anniversary and I got a big new diamond! :)

I have a Mac pro and like it a lot. I have always had a pc and it took some getting used to. I also have an iPad and they work great together.

I have had a MacBook for the past 4 years and one before that. I Love them. Be sure you get Apple Care when you purchase your MacBook. You will never look back. I can't tell you how many people I have encouraged to switch over.
(I'm an ex Apple employee)! Happy Anniversary1

I'm a long time Mac lover and have a MacBook Pro. The other MacBooks are great too, but smaller screen.

New Macs and possibly a new operating system may be announced in June at the WWDC, so you might want to wait til then so you'll get the latest and greatest available.

Mac's rock, and if you have an iPad, you already know a bit about that.

Virus free too

Don't all you Mac users love that we pretty much don't have to worry about viruses?

I know I can't do that on my iPad...but are you also not able to on the Mac Book??

And...why is that?

Patti 04-21-2011 04:48 PM

I bought a mac book 2 years ago and LOVE it. My daughter and I use to share it so it got a lot of use. We were going through PC's every year. When she moved out last October, we bought her one because we knew she would forget to update her virus protection and a PC wouldn't last.

Yes, you can definitely post pictures, change avatars, etc. from a Mac. It's much easier for me than doing it with a PC.

Do you need some help?? I'd be willing to try!! :):)

I upload my pics from my camera with my camera cord, those go directly into iPhoto. Then in iPhoto, you can easily resize, crop, edit, etc, whatever you wanna do. I always make mine .jpg and size medium to post on YT. I personally keep my pics in the 'My Pictures' folder and organize them into folders. So in iPhoto, I go to file and then 'export' and then you can put the pics where you want on your computer....

I've had a macbook air for the past few years. Loved it, so light, so portable. After I got my iPad, switched over to an iMac since I don't have to take the computer with me everywhere anymore. So iPad on the go, iMac at the office/home. And dropbox (dropbox.com) to keep all of my files synced.

My son went off to college with his old laptop even though I tried to encourage him to get a new one. Finally, after he has fought one problem after another, he bought a MacBook Pro. He just called me tonight & was going on and on about how great it was. He says he wished he had it all along and will never go back. He is bringing it home this weekend and wants me to try it out. He says I will want one too. (He thinks I am made of money!!) :) I'll write again after I get a chance to try it out. I told him I won't know how to use it, but he said there is no learning -- it all so simple & logical. It was great to hear him so excited about it -- reminded me of when he was little & got a new toy. :)

The only thing I cautioned him against the MacBook Air because he uses the CD drive so much. The Air does not have one, you have to buy one to use with it separately. He agreed that would be a pain for him. For me, it would be fine as I rarely use my CD drive. But he uses his daily.

This is one reason I love my Mac!

I do not like the Mac office program. When I enrolled in an Excel course for college, I realized how different this version is.
I now have VMware Fusion, so I can operate Windows, which solved the problem!

Both my girls went with the Mac Book Pro as their laptop for college. One LOVES it, one not so much. When they come home with them, DH is stealing them and won't get off. It's comical, but that's because before the Mac Books he was pretty much computer illeraterate. Now he thinks he's a know it all. I get a little frustrated when I try to use them, but that's only because I've had very little time with them since hubby is the hog. I do think they are worth the money though and I really like it when I get the chance to play too.:rolleyes:

Bitsy 04-22-2011 12:29 PM

I didn't realize how expensive they are!!! Oh well....it's in my wish list now! I would really love to have one someday!

Thanks Brit! I'm gonna bookmark this post and try it! I resize them and they still don't work for some reason. and when I upload from my Iphone they load in a "batch" not singly ......so THAT never works :rolleyes:

My son & daughter both have the MacBook Pro for college, but my son ran into compatibility problems with it and ended up getting a loaded PC also, to run his engineering programs. Thing he likes most about his MacBook over his PC...battery life!

one thing I always wondered.....if you are running Windows, are you not again susceptible to viruses? Probably the answer is "No...and that was a stupid question"

YorkieMom2u 04-22-2011 01:08 PM

I have a MacBook Pro and love it. Its 2 years old in August. I had a desktop dell and after a few months it crashed. I love the mac because i don't have to worry about anti virus programs, and scanning to see if there is any virus or anything like that. I dont have many programs, only a about 6 that didn't come with the computer added on additionally. It still runs as fast as day 1 I used it. I dont bring it anywhere I only use it in my home. The other day I did end up dropping it from 4 feet high and it landed on my left foot, and man did that hurt, but nothing wrong with the computer!

Great computer, I will never go back to P.C. just because how easy it is to get a virus and how slow it used to be for me.

Good luck in your search.

Not a stupid question, but I'm thinking the answer is yes, running Windows can open you up for viruses; but I'm not 100% sure, so don't quote me:D

Ellie May 04-22-2011 02:03 PM

Not a stupid question at all. I've been wondering the same thing. lol. Might be able to find out.

margaritaville 04-22-2011 02:25 PM

I had a PC and was having problems, so my daughter talked me into a Macbook. At first I hated it because I was trying to make it difficult (as in PC) when it was actually simple. I have never had a virus and I run Windows on mine because I use a PC at work and transfer Excel data back and forth and present PowerPoint programs to the nursing staff. When I first got it I got the One on One program and took a couple classes just to get started but really didn't need it but do get the contract.

I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that the Windows side would be equally vulnerable as a PC, but the Mac (Linux os) would not be at risk because most of the stuff that attacks PCs will not "operate" in Linux.

I love my Mac desktop and I look forward to the day I replace my laptop with a Macbook Pro.

Bitsy, if you go PC/Windows, I highly recommend Toshiba.
