Omg.....Thats awful ....but really nothing surprises me these days  Maybe someone knew your pin # & thats one way it couldve been done, there are so many other ways..internet,a ton of peole pay that way,& any con artist have the no how to get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Fraud is all around us...its scary  WHO can you trust these days :zip: |
I just wanted to let you guys know that I went ot the bak and had to fill out a Regulation E form...it seems that they are or were still charging things to my account and it was much more then I thought previously...they are investigating the 14 transaction that were already paid out and there are 5 more that are pending....the pending trasaction have to clear according to Commerce and then I have to fill out another set of Regulation E forms....I cancelled my debit card and received a new pne plus changed my checking info. I am actually considering going to another bank as well. The lady at commerce told me that ALOT of people with camera phones (waiters, cashiers etc.) are taking photos of credit cards and then selling them allowing this stuff to happen. Once this is all said and done this person would have charged almost 500.00 to my account in small increments...(12) 6.95, (4) 20.00, (1) 59.00, (6) 10.00 etc etc..., so I urge everyone to really look at your statements because this is just scary!!! |
Have you filed a police report yet? I think that would also help and please check your other accounts, credit cards, etc. to make sure its not a case of stolen identity and only one specific account. |
Couldn't you just do a charge back over the phone? I've had to have my bank do a couple. One company charged me 3 times for the same transaction and I requested a charge back...got my money back to? I don't know about the form mentioned but I'll keep that in mind in case it ever happens again. So sorry that you're having to go through this. :( |
What a pain in the butt - the bank should refund your money right away but there is so many ways to be de-frauded these days - its a good thing the transactions were so small - that person probably figured you wouldnt notice maybe ? The other thing people are overlooking is computer hijacking - check your firewalls and things - My friend just had 500 $$ in Phone charges from his computer - they accessed his modem number and used it to make calls from Argentina...so watch that SpyWare too Sorry this happened to you - the thieves out there may outnumber the honest people - it\'s is just SO prevalent now ~! and they are getting so SMART in how they steal |
Im sorry this has happened to you. I hope they give you your money back and fix what ever is happening. |
It\'s really horrible what all this technology is really being used for. My girlfriend recently tried to refinance her home. She was declined when they did a credit check it turns out that she was a victim of identity theft. There was a mortgage and two car loans defaulted under her name as well as credit cards opened that were in default. After almost two years she finally got the mess cleared up. They never did catch the person. The most important things to remember is always make sure any sight you use on the computer is secure and shred everything before you throw it away. Unfortunately you even need to shred what you think is junk mail because it may contain information that a theft is looking for. Another thing is to make sure that those checks that come with your credit cards are destroyed. They are valid checks and can wipe out your remaining credit on that card. The safest thing is to get a PO box so no one can steal your mail before you even see it. |
