NEED ADVICE...someone took money out of my acct!!!!!! Anyone that has worked for a bank or has experience...yesterday I went to the bank and it was overdrawn...I couldn't figure out how this happened and the automated system wasn't giving me my transactions past Sat., so I depsotied money so nothing would bounce and went to the bank before work...they still weren't open and so from work I called and there were 8 trasactions for 6.95, 4 for 20.00 and 2 for 10.00 all taken out from 2 companies (the first 2 were the same company) and the other was from another....I called the bank and they gave me the # and told me if they don't refund me I will have to go file a regulation E form. Of course I got machine on BOTH numbers and I will have to go to the bank later on today but does anyone know how this process works??? Do they refund my money and then go after the company, do I have any protection here???? I can't even imagine how they got my information??? |
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Put a RED FLAG on your account! Do you use a ATM card? The bank will put the money back in, but they first have to track down the transactions to make sure you didn't make them. Real pain in the butt if you ask me, as it could take up to two weeks. But I would make sure your account has a Red Flag. No one will be able to get to it, without ID. Also, change your Pin Number ASAP. Sorry this happened to you. |

With the Internet World these days, I am surprised there isn't more invaid transactions. I would love to do Online Bill Pay, but so afraid of some electronic error. Surely the bank will make your account good. There was one time my bank cleared a check I wrote over a year ago. Checks are only good for 3 months. I called the bank, and they took the money out of the account that cashed the check and gave me back my money. |
That happend to me not long ago, yes the bank refunded me the money and closed my account and opend a new. I am allways careful, but if you used a checkcard and the people that you buy from and they are not careful someone could get ahold of your info well...you know what happens. |
this happened to me about a year ago but it showed that i was 2,000 dollars in the hole my husband freaked completely out and this was on a sat night around 11 so we couldnt contact the bank until monday. So he called and canceled the debit cards over the phone and when monday rolled around and we called the bank it was all an atm error so then we had to go through the whole process of getting new cards it was a HUGE pain. |

I am sorry that your money went missing. I hope that this has not happen to you, I hope it is a mistake...This is a BLEEP to go through, and once you are in it, it is hard to overcome; especially in a short time. Wish you the Best of Luck!! |
That happened to me once and I found out that it was from when I had ordered something from Victoria's Secret. You know how they offer you free magazines as a trial. Well, what they don't tell you is that after the trial is up, they start charging you, without contacting you to let you know or to see if you want to continue. I had to call about 5 different #s before I got it cleared up and even then I didn't get all my $$ back! |
OMG!! I cant believe that!!! I hope that you get every last penny back and nail the sucker who did that to you!!!! |
I work at a bank and a lot of times with 1-800 numbers like that if you keep pressing 0 you normally get through. The best thing to do is to go ahead and file the E form since they were unauthorized. Nine times out of ten you will not be able to speak to a representative. Normally the 1800 number is just the bill company other companys go through. almost like a 3rd party. One thing you might want to do is to put stop payments out on the company's so they cant take out anymore money. Things like that happen often. Sorry this happen to you! |

I worked for a bank for 4 years before going to the school system I would close my checking acc. as soon as possible!! |
WOW, that scares the S@#~ out of me,,that so many of you have experienced this! Scary!! |
Wow that is really scary! People that steal other people's hard earned money...it just boggles my mind. I hope everything works out for you asap! Hannah |
There seems to be a lot of that going around lately. Especially with cash cards. I went to use mine last week and it was declined, so I stopped by my bank. Someone was charging stuff in Sante Fe - Sears, etc... My bank caught it before I did and froze my account. When I got home there were 2 calls where they had been trying to reach me! Way to go Two Rivers Bank!!!!! My BF was paying her bills the Friday before, and there were $8000 in charges to her bank card. She had overdraft protection, so everytime her account was depleted, the bank would put more money in. Her bank never caught it - she had to bring it to their attention! (At least her theft was having more fun than mine. They were partying it up in Cancun! ) Neither of us use our cards on the Internet, so the banks seem to think it was someone locally stealing numbers and creating new cards or something. Meanwhile, the FDIC covers your loss. That was last Thursday, and account has already been credited. You work so hard for your money, and then some jerk thinks they can just take it! Really sucks! If only they would use their energy for good instead of evil. Good luck. I hope you get it cleared up out without too much hassle! |
I just went through this 3 weeks ago. I did have to close my checking account. The total amount that had been stolen from my account was $407.00. I was in aww. I did have some paperwork to fill out and luckily the people at the bank helped me fill it out. I received my money back. So it was worth it to close out the account and spend time on the paperwork. Best wishes, |
Omg.....Thats awful ....but really nothing surprises me these days  Maybe someone knew your pin # & thats one way it couldve been done, there are so many other ways..internet,a ton of peole pay that way,& any con artist have the no how to get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Fraud is all around us...its scary  WHO can you trust these days :zip: |
I just wanted to let you guys know that I went ot the bak and had to fill out a Regulation E form...it seems that they are or were still charging things to my account and it was much more then I thought previously...they are investigating the 14 transaction that were already paid out and there are 5 more that are pending....the pending trasaction have to clear according to Commerce and then I have to fill out another set of Regulation E forms....I cancelled my debit card and received a new pne plus changed my checking info. I am actually considering going to another bank as well. The lady at commerce told me that ALOT of people with camera phones (waiters, cashiers etc.) are taking photos of credit cards and then selling them allowing this stuff to happen. Once this is all said and done this person would have charged almost 500.00 to my account in small increments...(12) 6.95, (4) 20.00, (1) 59.00, (6) 10.00 etc etc..., so I urge everyone to really look at your statements because this is just scary!!! |
Have you filed a police report yet? I think that would also help and please check your other accounts, credit cards, etc. to make sure its not a case of stolen identity and only one specific account. |
Couldn't you just do a charge back over the phone? I've had to have my bank do a couple. One company charged me 3 times for the same transaction and I requested a charge back...got my money back to? I don't know about the form mentioned but I'll keep that in mind in case it ever happens again. So sorry that you're having to go through this. :( |
What a pain in the butt - the bank should refund your money right away but there is so many ways to be de-frauded these days - its a good thing the transactions were so small - that person probably figured you wouldnt notice maybe ? The other thing people are overlooking is computer hijacking - check your firewalls and things - My friend just had 500 $$ in Phone charges from his computer - they accessed his modem number and used it to make calls from Argentina...so watch that SpyWare too Sorry this happened to you - the thieves out there may outnumber the honest people - it's is just SO prevalent now ~! and they are getting so SMART in how they steal |
Im sorry this has happened to you. I hope they give you your money back and fix what ever is happening. |
It's really horrible what all this technology is really being used for. My girlfriend recently tried to refinance her home. She was declined when they did a credit check it turns out that she was a victim of identity theft. There was a mortgage and two car loans defaulted under her name as well as credit cards opened that were in default. After almost two years she finally got the mess cleared up. They never did catch the person. The most important things to remember is always make sure any sight you use on the computer is secure and shred everything before you throw it away. Unfortunately you even need to shred what you think is junk mail because it may contain information that a theft is looking for. Another thing is to make sure that those checks that come with your credit cards are destroyed. They are valid checks and can wipe out your remaining credit on that card. The safest thing is to get a PO box so no one can steal your mail before you even see it. |
