Every time I think it is getting better and I'm more relaxed, something comes up regarding my mother's estate, family, home, etc. to just make it all worse again. I'm sure it will get better with rest, if I can just find the time to try and get it. Wow! Some great ideas. The rice in a sock idea is one that I have used to warm my mother's finger up before testing her blood sugar and also on my cat's ears before testing the blood sugar. It works. I'll try it. I've just been using cold therapy because the doctor recommended it 2 weeks ago. I'll try the moist heat and icy hot. It just dawned on me that my previous GP (who was more into homeopathic medicine and recommended vitamins more than any other doctor I've ever used) recommended using something people use on horses called ABSORBINE, Veterinary Liniment Gel, topical analgesic. It contains botanical extracts and speeds natural healing. It's a spearmint scent. I found it at a tractor supply store a few years ago. Just forgot about it. Heck, I'll try every idea I've read! I think I've had it around 3 weeks now. Everyone has been so helpful. Thank you. |

Did you see Dr. Oz on his show the other day with the piece of pasta and ice? It stiffened the pasta and it became hard. He used heat on the pasta and it became pliable and soft. He said our muscles are like that pasta. Ice is usually just for trauma and to reduce damage, though it is good for some nerve pain. Moist heat will loosen up your neck and shoulder muscles and allow good blood flow to rush oxygen and other nutrients from the blood into your muscles, relaxing them and reducing swelling in the process. |

With all the stress you have been under, it's no wonder your neck is tight and stiff. If the massages are only giving short term relief, you can buy one of those things stuffed with rice - that you heat up in the microwave and leave on your neck. I prefer this to the sock, but the sock is definitely cheaper. A visit to your doc might be in order for some muscle relaxers or just something for stress. You have just been through one of life's most stressful events. I hope you feel better. |

Tell me about it! When I was 12, I had an uncontrollable twitch in my neck and head (must have been because of pain). My parents took me to every M.D. in town and no one could find the problem. Then they found this chiropractor, bless his soul, who took an x-ray and manipulated my neck and said I had a pinched nerve. I had several treatments of him saying "popcorn" and popping my neck (can't remember how long it took to cure it). All I know is that he was the only one who knew what was wrong. Within no time, I was well. I defend them to this day. I could sure use him now to help get rid of this crick in my neck! |
