I'd give my eye teeth to have that back. Well, not really, it constantly had problems with the fuel pump-I did a lot of walking home from breakdowns. It also caught on fire once when the metal cover over the battery, behind the front seat caused a short. | I have a 1958 Austin Healey 100-6 - my dream car since I was about five years old. I can relate to the mechanical issues... I drove with a fuel pump that was going out for several weeks -- had to keep the battery cover behind the seats open, and bang on the fuel pump (just a few inches from the ground) with a rubber mallet every 30 seconds or so. Needless to say, I have a new fuel pump. I've also had the driver's door latch break from metal fatigue while driving on the freeway and had to hold the door closed the whole way home.
About 20 years ago my dad, who rebuilt Model A Fords as a hobby, bought a 29 sedan for me to drive. I drove it on a few club caravans - that was a blast. And in a lot of parades. It was a lot of work and very tiring to drive, though. Last time I drove it, someone had goofed while working on the electrical system and every time I stepped on the brake, the engine died. Having to be pushed off the parade route while people were yelling "Get a horse!" was the last straw. |
