Shame on Bank of America, shame, shame!!! My husband takes care of all the bills because he's so great at it, and always pays early on the ones possible. Well, our mortgage was with Country Wide till Bank of America took over those accounts. Our credit history is perfection, and couldn't get any better. Three weeks after he made our Mortgage payment we get a harassment call from a collection agency. My husband answered and tried to tell that lady that our payment was NOT late, but she went off on him to the point he hung up. She started calling back every 1/2 hour but he would not answer. He did try to call that number back to see where it was from but the machine said it wasn't a working number. WHAT?????? Then how did she call us??? The next morning he called Bank of America to find out what the heck is going on, and that he doesn't appreciate being harassed by a bill collector. They said they would take care of that, and when my husband ask why he was turned over to a collector, they couldn't even answer why. Then that same day the phone started ringing every 1/2 hour again, so my husband decided to answer it, get their name and number to tell them if they continue to harass us he would hire an attorney. They told my husband that they have not been contacted by Bank of America, then started threatening, so he told them he would be contacting an attorney. He made one last angry call to BA threating them with a suit if he got one more call from a collector. They put the late charge back into our account and apologized for any inconvenience. ANY INCONVENIENCE???? We lost sleep, I broke out in hives and was crying and it was a horrible ending to what should have been a wonderful Holiday. What's going on in our country anymore. Everyone trying to make money from us even if they have to STEAL it?? We still don't know why this all happen. Had to Vent, especially since I read a couple other post where people were having fraudulent charges on their CC's. I'm in their boat now.......in a way. |
Sorry this happened to you, I'd be the same way, that sort of thing would drive me nuts, even if they were polite about the overcharges. Hope it's all taken care of now, and hope they fire the harasser. |
Yorkiedaze, I am so sorry. Something strange is going on in the banking world. My mortgage is with Wells Fargo, which has a stellar reputation. Although my mortgage payments are always made *early*, they docked me for being late and applied all of the payments toward interest and none toward principal. They also charged me for not having homeowners insurance, which I have had without interruption for the past 8 years. This mess has taken more 3 months to sort out. My father, and co-owner of the house, is an attorney and sent letters. Wells Fargo never responded, but they did credit all of our accounts. Very unsettling. |
Oh that sounds terrible. It is a shame how quickly they judge you, without allowing you to explain, or even attempt to look into the details. I've often wondered why type of personality one must have to be able to do that job. They have no compassion, they must have never had a cash flow problem or even ever forgotten anything. |

Our mortgage is also with BA after they took over for Countrywide. We have never been fans of BA either. We've never felt they had their customers at heart. We would have refinanced after that whole Countrywide deal but we're too close to having our house paid off that no one will even consider refinancing because they won't make any money and it would cost us more in refinancing fees. So, we nervously are working hard to get it paid for so we don't have to do business with BA. I don't trust them. |

aww sorry this happened to you guys. About two weeks ago, someone from citi bank came to my house. He was there to take my car b/c of late payment. He was all cocky about this. The funny thing is that I paid cash for my car. I didn't even take out any loans. My parents help paid for it. I told the guy that he still won't leave. Even confirm the birthdate with him. Its not my birthday. I told him to go back to the bank and if they have any problems, they can call me personally. I haven't heard anything. Stupid bankers.. |

I'm sorry you had that issue. I had an issue with Chase when it took over Wamu. Long story short, they took money out of my acct, overdrew, took money from my dad's acct to cover it. They said I was at fault. Naturally, when I started working, I went to Chase, withdrew all the money in that acct, gave it to my dad and used my first paycheck to open an acct with a credit union. |

I cannot stand Bank Of America at all....... |
I closed my accounts with BOA after 10 years. They have horrible customer service. Of course my best friend from college disagrees because she has worked for them for 15 years. lol I cant stand them. So glad I got new accounts!! So sorry that happened to you! |
I am so very sorry for all of the problems everyone has had. Donna, I am so very glad that the calls have quit coming. Life4Life- be careful about giving out ANY personal information to someone coming to your house like that. Next time call the police first and ask questions later. Sounds like sone was posing as a bank official in an effort to steal your car. |
Disgusting behavior. I think a law was recently passed or is on the table to stop that sort of harassment. An elderly man not so long ago took his life after the same treatment. I know his family is suing. Even if you were a month late that should never have gone to a collections. The worst thing is that sometimes these places are cold calling trying to find someone. For a while I was getting calls for an "Elizabeth Santiago"... Umm my name is "Beth Santiago". The agency kept on calling during the day blowing up my answering machine. One night I called and left them a message...of course that was ignored. Finally I took the time during the day and called them. The lady apologized but said it is not their fault ( umm then whose effing fault is it), she said that they use the phone book and make cold calls in an attempt to find the right person. I must had had 50 calls on my machine. Amazing that they wouldn't stop. At the end of the convo she said it might take a day or two for my number to get taken off of the auto dialer. I was so pissed. |

We have never banked with BOA because of all bad information we have heard off and on for years, and were not a bit happy they took over our mortgage. I'll be so happy to move and get another lender. We have banked with the Federal Credit Union for over 32 years without a moment's problem. Have to tell the ones that have posted some great advice, and the ones who have had problems with other institutions, I'm thankful you all have posted what you have gone through, because it may help get the word out and hopefully these banks will go back to working "for" the people instead of "against" the people. Word of mouth can make or break any company if enough people speak up. ;) |
I'm not thrilled with BOA right now either. I had a check fraud issue a couple weeks ago where someone cashed a check with my account number and forged my signature and the check bounced. I, of course, reported it to BOA. When I finally got through to the fraud analyst that is assigned to my case after I left her four messages, I specifically asked, why an ID wasn't verified when this check was cashed. She had told me that under a certain amount of money, BOA tellers do not have to check for ID! In my opinion, whether the check is written for $5 or $1000, an ID should be verified for this very reason. I went in the bank Friday to cash my paycheck and I was asking the bank manager a question regarding my claim and was explaining to her that if that policy is true, then I personally don't feel comfortable with my money being that bank. She then tells me that the claims analyst is wrong and that they do have to check ID... so someone is covering up somewhere and I intend on find out why. I will still probably be changing accounts to Navy Federal. |

Well, we sure don't have to continue banking with untrained people. Scary that they are working in a bank of all places. |
Sorry you had to deal with this. BA is not my favorite bank either. Long story short, one of the people who helps you with your accounts decided to open a new credit card account without telling me or my consent. I'd closed a 10 year old credit card account due to non usage. Because of the new credit card, the limit on the credit card that I do use and that my husband used on business trips was adjusted! Imagine my anger at that girl. When I called the bank I insisted on speaking with the manager and he profusely apologized and asked me to make sure that I had okayed opening it. I said to him, if I was closing a card that I had for many, many years that I didn't use, why would I open a new one? Duh!!!! And because of the new card, the bank took it upon themselves and decided that the limit on my existing...well used card was too high they lowered the limit on it! I have had this particular card through 4 banks over a 20 year span. To have this girl screw up my account was beyond comprehension. Boy did I give the bank manager a piece of my mind!!! I made him take care of the inquiry on my credit reports and fix my accounts. I used to work with finances and credit reports. I understand that inquiries count against your credit ratings. I was in the process of refinancing and I was not a happy camper at all! |
This last posting reminds me of an occasion back in the mid-1980's when my cheque card was due for renewal, with the bank I was then with. I didn't want a credit card (still haven't got one!) but the bank I was then with tried to persuade me to complete a credit card application form'because everyone has one'. I told them in no uncertain terms that I'm not 'everyone' I'm me and I don't want a credit card so would they please renew my cheque card which I'd had with them for 10 years with no problems! It took a whole year for this bank to get it through their thick skulls that i wasn't going to be forced into having a credit card I didn't want, and eventually they issued a new cheque card. By then I'd changed my bank anyway on principle that the customer's wishes should be paramount in any service organisation to a bank that was prepared to issue a cheque card. My original bank account I closed; I only had less than £1.00 in it anyway. |

Looks like problems with banks aren't exclusively ours here in the US. I'm glad you stood your ground. It amazes me how many ways banks, among other companies, can find ways to make money off of us! Keep an eye on all your gas, phone, garbage, ele. bills. They seem to add a couple of cents every so often and it never goes back down. |
BofA is the worst when it comes to customer service! I had a fraudulent small charge on my acct and it took weeks for them to fix it.j I called and they kept tranferring me over and over and over again, telling me I called the wrong # when it was the same # I was calling. After I finally got my money back I closed my acct. I still had cc debt with them so when I went into the branch to pay, they asked me if I wanted to open an acct. i told them I just closed one bc of their terrible customer service. Now I am not happy with Chase either, but a friend of mine works for them, and I had a huge amount of fraud charged on my acct internationally. She handled all the paperwork and my money was returned within 24 hrs. I do believe though, if I didn't know someone who worked there, I would have been shown the same "courtesy". I'm really thinking of switching to a credit union. As for the OP, there are SO many scams going around right now. A lot of debt collectors that are not real debt collectors. Trying to scare you into paying a debt that you don't have. If anyone gets anything fraudulent through the mail, you must tell your local post office as it is a federal offense. |
Geesh....I am sorry that you had to go through that. What a nightmare!:( |
