Do you "reply" up or down? When I receive a private message and reply I am uncertain if there is a correct position for my reply? Do you reply at the bottom of the PM received, or do you post your reply at the top of the PM received. It probably doesn't make much difference, but I've never known if there is a correct way? I used to reply at the bottom but would get a reply then at the top. It was confusing with my replies at the bottom, the other person's at the top. So....what's your preference....are you a topper, or a bottomer?:D |
LOL! That is funny as I have been wondering that too. I think I do both and that can get confusing when in a very long exchange. I "think" replying at the bottom would be more like the forum as a quoted reply will come after the quote. But, I have seen so many reply at the top, I sort of started doing that. Maybe I will see what the general consensus is and try to stick with that way. Good question! |
I always post on the bottom. I generally "make" a space by hitting the space bar a couple of times then begin typing? I don't know if this is right or wrong, but this is what I do. |
lol....it's good I'm not the only one confused, Debra. I know it's not a important question but one that I've wondered too, about for some time and thought....it's time to ask. I used to reply at the bottom, because it seemed to make sense but then I would get so many the other way, I thought....I've been doing this wrong. |

I like the top. I hadn't really thought about it, but it's probably because that's what I'm used to with email. It certainly can get confusing after a few messages. |

If it is a short message I reply underneath- if it is long I reply on the top so that the person doesn't have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to read the reply. And if I am lazy, I may not follow these rules at all :p |
Good thread! I always reply to the top of the PM. I like receiving them that way, too. When you open it, you can read the response first, instead of scrolling all over trying to find it. Some people respond with a new PM, where the old one is not shown. I guess that is another way around it, but I would be scared I would not answer all of the questions/address the senders message fully. |
This is so wierd, I was just thinking of writing this same topic yesterday. I do it both ways, I guess I'm bi. :D |
hmmm. I think I reply at the top most times, but if the messages back and forth have gotten to cumbersome I just highlight/delete the whole thing and start typing. |

I like to reply in a different color each time :D I usually do this NeXT to the corresponding question/comment. Makes it easy to spot my replies. But sometimes I just dont care because now that I have a MAC it is harder to change colors :rolleyes: |

I type at the top so they don't have to scroll down... I agree with the other poster who said they do it because they are used to emailing. I think it just makes it that much easier for the reader. |
I reply on top usually. The new post is most important, and the longer they get the skinnier they get at the bottom. So if you reply down there, you make people scroll through all the past messages only to read narrow, hard to read type. Of course, it's hard to follow a string of messages if everyone does it a different way. |
I always try to do it at the top..in a different color...not knowing how others do it I want to make sure they see my answer.:p |
