Wow, who carries pepper spray?? Peanut and I had such a scare over the weekend!! On Saturday night it was about 8pm and DH and I were watching tv, he was falling asleep and I wanted a subway sandwhich, well I woke him up I and told him P and I were going to get one!! We went on our way, I got my sandwhich, I wanted hot cheeots with it and I noticed subway didnt have them, I figured I would just go across the street to the 7 eleven.. Peanut and I go across the street, I lock him in the car and go on my merry way.. I walked in and saw two guys at the counter buying beer, I didnt think anything of it, I grabbed my chips and walked out, me and the guys walked out at the same time, I went to the left and they stayed there. Well I felt someone looking at me so I looked behind me, at that point the guy saw me walking to a corvette  I got in my car, I put my sealtbelt on at looked up and saw the guy walking towards my car!! I looked my doors, he started walking over the the passenger window, Pnut started to go CRAZY, by barking and growling!! I have never seen pnut like that with anyone!! They guy walked over to the window, and I swear my heart was pounding out of my chest, it looked like he was going to attempt to open my door, but he knocked on the window, he asked if I knew where Tyler St was... I said "No" I started my car , he said can you roll down your window real fast..?? omg this whole time Pnut was going CRAZY!! I even think he was drooling out of the mouth!! I said No, sorry I have to go, and I started to roll back in reverse.. then he got out of the way!! OMG, I ran home and woke up DH and told him I wanted him to buy me some pepper spray asap!! I was soooo scared!! WHO knows what his intentions were, but I am glad that everything worked out!! I am glad I locked my doors that fast too!! Does anyone have or carry pepper spray in their purse, car?? What do you have for proctection?? |
I have pepper spray that I carry in my car. There was only one time that I thought about taking it out but didn't. But if I needed it I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use it. What a scary thing to happen and I'm glad that you are alright. |

I've always kept pepper spray in my car. Thankfully, I've never had to use it. I also have a small but heavy LED flashlight that my stepdad bought me claiming it doubles as a weapon. Apparently he wants me to whack suspicious people with it. |
I think us Women have to carry something, esp nowa days!! I usually dont go out at night without DH, we are mostly always together, but we have those nights were I go out alone, which I hate!! :( Its time for me to get some protection! |
omg- how awful for you. I'm glad everything worked out ok. You just never know these days. My daughter was almost taken by 3 men posing as plain -clothed police officers at a winefest in Pittsburgh claiming they had to take her for public drunkiness....she hadn't even had a sip of wine. Luckily someone else that she worked with stepped in and confronted them. They wouldn't show badges or anything - they just abruptly left. The winefest searched the tapes but couldn't identify these guys. She luckily learned a lesson and wasn't hurt - but you just can't be too careful. I thought I taught her better than that - but there were 3 of them (she is 4'11" and 90lbs) and they just took her by the arm and were escorting her out..I thank God everyday for the co-worker that had enough guts to confront them. |
It is becoming more and more of a necessity, these days. My office has had an officer come and do a presentation once every couple years. We are able to purchase different types of pepper spray mechanisms and home security stuff at that time. I believe this is the website on the purchase forms: The Home Security Superstore - Security Alarms-Camera Systems-Self Defense Stun Guns-Tasers |
Pepper Spray will sometimes just make the bad guy madder. Take a Pistol Course and get your Concealed Carry Waepon License. Then go and get a smaller Pistol with a 3" Barrel in at least 38 Caliber. The life you save, may be your own. You can get the license in most states, with the exception of Illinois (A communist state) and Wisc. Depending on where I have to go, I sometimes carry even in Illinois. Let them throw me in jail for defending myself. I will get the best lawyer and put on one heck of a trail. That is why I miss AZ....always had my Springer 45 ACP Micro with me. Remember, you shoot to kill, not to wound. That is the law. |
Very scary. I am glad you made it home safely. Steve, that's one reason my DH wants to move to AZ. |

I was told if you buy pepper spray only buy the higher strength sprays as most of what they sell won't do anymore than enrage the creep. |

Unfortunately, you never know who or what can happen. I even kept it close when I had my satellite TV installed. Didn't know the guy and I don't take chances! |

Bad thing about a TASER is, chances are you will be nervous, and what happens when you aim and miss? You only have one shot! With a Pistol or revolver, you have anywhere from 5-19 rounds..... Take a class, practice, and get a Pistol or Revolver. Forget the pepper spray and Taser. Trained police can use them, but they also have a Pistol for backup....They use them so they do not have the ACLU on their case |
self protection I had the same thing happen to me with a guy trying to get into my car. I was at a Walmart and I opened my trunk and put stuff in. I noticed an old pickup sitting across from me with two really slimy looking guys. I got in my car and immediately locked my door I saw one of the guys come up from behind my car and he grabbed my door handle and tried to open the door. He also tried pounding on my window. I put the car in reverse and took off, boy did he move fast. My husband is a cop and I was taught early as were our kids. The minute you get in your car, before anything else you lock your doors. Even if you are just running to the store, in a small town or anywhere else, lock your doors. Especially in town where you may stop at a stop sign or red light. It only takes a minute for someone to grab the door handle. I have pepper spray in my car that is the kind the police carry. DH has my car or I'd go look. I also have a small case that I carry on my purse that has a pin with a ring like they have on hand gernades, when you pull the pin it gives off a horrible ear splitting high pitch noise that attracts alot of attention. As for carrying a handgun, it's okay as long as you know what you are doing. It's also possible for a attacker to get it away and use it on you. In most states you have to be able to prove that your life was in danger or you could face charges. I do have a permit to carry but beware of all the places that have signs that you can not bring a fire arm into their business. I carry mine if I walk anywhere alone or in the woods. I keep it by my headboard in the bedroom as most assualts occur on women at night. It's true if you get one you have to be able to make the decision to shoot to kill. Not all people are able to take someones life. If you do at your home, make sure they are in your residence! I alway joke with my DH that I'll shoot them first then drag them in the house....he doesn't find that funny. He taught me at a firing range to shoot and the rule is 2 to the chest and 1 to the head. Think about it before buying, are you prepared to do that? I'm not trying to discourage anyone from a permit to carry, just be aware of what you feel capable of doing. |

I never, ever go anywhere alone in the evening. I only walk my girls when my husband is with me and yes, I carry pepper spray too, just in case he has to grab the girls up in the event a big mean dog tries anything, which happen twice so far. Makes you stop and think how things have gotten these days. You were so right in not rolling down a window, because if they really needed information, they would have ask the cashier. |

I have spoken with a few law officers that have different opinions on the CHL, some are scared and have come across people that think they are the law just because they are licensed to carry. Others are very grateful that responsibile citizens have the permit and do carry. Because you can NOT have a felony, pass a background check, pass a proficiency test and keep up on renewal. I understand both points of view and respect them. When I saw the states that honor other states CHL's it was a little surprising. And I have to give a shout out to my good old Alaska for being the most liberal :) And also I'd suggest carry what you are proficient with not what you think will fit best into a holster or a purse. |
I actually take pepper spray with me when I go to our local park because there are trails and stuff in the woods, and you just never know. Might not be the best thing, but its better than nothing..lol.. |
No doubt he was a bad guy or Pnut would not have gone so crazy. Dogs know. Uni did that once when two gang members came into my shop a while back, complete with face tattoos and everything. You could tell they were high. She usually is very friendly to all, but she growled at them and when one picked her up she went nuts and tired to bite him. Anyway, I was told if you are gonna get spray, get a bear spray. Some pepper sprays are not strong enough, esp if the guy is on PCP or something crazy. |
Pepper sprays are not strong enough. Too bad they do not sell CMS or Mustard gas. Learn how to use a Pistol or Revolver in a class, get a CCW License, and always be aware of your surroundings. Never intentionally put yourself in harms way. Also when you walk, walk like you are the meanest SOB on the street. |
I am so sorry you went thru all that fear. A couple of years ago some thug followed me home from walgeens and robbed me in daylight. A witness saw it and followed the robber but the car was stolen and the good samaritan lost him. The policeman that came to my home suggested that I take the next course (1 hour) at the police station so I could obtain and carry mace(pepper spray which I do, thankfully I have not had to use it! I really think you should get your pepper spray card and spray, Good luck! |
Ugh I have No idea what to get now! I dont really want to carry a gun, I have a 20g shotgun that is mine, I keep next to my bed, DH has tons of guns but that is mine :D I am very trained on my shotgun, DH taught me everything! I would have No fear if someone broke into my house. But that is in my house and not out in public... |

Wow, glad you locked up fast too!! I dont think I want to carry a firearm, I am comfortable with using my shotgun here at home if need be, but I dont think out in the public.. I will look around and think of something that is best for me. If someone was hurting me and trying to take my life I would have no problem shooting, but if they were trying to rob me and no have evil intentions I dont know.. I wouldnt want to take a life. |
