Home remedy treatment for fever blisters? I looked up ways to treat a fever blister, using home remedies, and I saw honey, baking soda, and using ice suppression every 5 minutes on the hour. As I am way too embarrassed to leave the house and pick up some Abreva, so any of you know effective at home remedies to cure a fever blister? This thing has it's own zip code; please help! |
You may want to talk to your doctor or even, your dentist (well...... for the next time). I know there is a prescription they can write - that with the first sensation of an onset - you put it on and it will stop it from forming. As for now............. well lots of makeup???? |

Lysine is a vitamin that I researched to prevent them from emerging. It's bad; every time I have a stressful meeting or something major going on, I get one. I'll talk to my doctor and see if there is anything that he can call in. I don't want to be seen in public until it is gone. Thanks for replying. (: |
My cousin and I both suffer from them. Triggers for me are oragnes, chocolate, too much sun and stress. I love orange juice but I have to drink it half juice and half water. As soon as I feel that tingly itchy feeling I either ice it or use Abreeva. Abreeva is expensive but it's wonderful. You can buy it at the drug store or the supermarket. |

I eat a lot of veggies, so I didn't think that I needed a vitamin supplement. But vitamins A, B, C, E and zinc are supposed to be really good too, and lysine is supposedly good to take to prevent outbreaks. And to make it worse, I have a mucho important meeting on Friday at 3 PM, and I'm scared that the only thing that everyone is going to do is scare at this thing. ): |
Gosh Lizzieg, I sure feel your pain!! I get 2 or 3 of these @$$^%& things a year and they are miserable!!! I have dealt with em for 40 years and have tried everything! My dentist even gave me a prescription for Aycyclovir(sp?) This did not help much. Sadly, in my experience, nothing but time(usually 2 weeks) will heal it. In the meantime, wet some regular teabags and freeze them. Apply the tea bag to the sore for as long as you can several times a day. The tanin in tea speeds healing and the cold relieves the swelling. Also take aspirin or motrin to help with swelling and inflamation, pain. I also keep it lubed up with neosporin. It's okay to put on your lips as it won't hurt you. I really understand what you are goin thru, so embarrasing, You just want to slink away and hide in the closet!!! There is no way to cover them! One person out of four get these so chances are lots of folks you meet are suffering from the same condition! That does not make it easier, i know!! Keep your chin up! Good luck! Kim&Mabel:) |

I see you are from Dacula, GA. I'm from GA, used to live off of Lake Lanier in Hall Co. Dacula sure was growing when I left. Thanks for the tea bag advice; I just brewed some tea, and am freezing the bags now. (: |

My children won't ask for reasonable things for Christmas; 2 want a 4 Wheeler and Apple laptops, and one wants a trip to Paris during his college break from school. I took on more than I can chew with work, and I'm stressing because I'm a people pleaser and I want my family happy. And I am trying to work remotely until the lip goes down a bit too. And I look like a complete idiot. It looks like someone sucker-punched me in the mouth. I don't wish them on anyone, but I'm glad to know that I am not alone. When I was in high school, I stayed home if I had them because of the rough crowd. I guess that fear still lies within me. |
abreva doesnt work for me. they still last 2 weeks if i put it on right away. i went to my natropath who suggested lysene pills with goldenseal in them. i also take antiviral drops that i get at a healthfood store and the combination makes them go away within a week. my natropath also suggested some homeopathics but i havent had a chance to try them out yet. |
Hey, new friend! My dad had em! I guess that is where mine came from! My mom has never had one. The worst one I can remember was a week before my big, huge 200 guest wedding! UUUGGGHHH!!!! I'm just getting over a whopper now! Goin on a cruise in 4 days, so a giant puss filled sore on my upper lip is par for the course!! There has got to be some way to cover those suckers up. But, I'm not gonna complain...a cruise is a cruise with or without crusty green scabs! EEEWWW! I'm making my own self sick! Oh yeah, i forgot to mention Herpecin L. It's like a lip balm but it's in a stick. you can get it at any drug/grocery/super store. This stuff helps! Just keep putting it on continuously. Gosh we were practically neighbors once! And yes Dacula is really growing! We live off 324(Gravel Springs) They built a really nice mall in buford about 4 miles from us(5 years ago?) so everything has just exploded out here! |

Herpes Treatment Association ? Authority for Herpes Research and Natural Herpes Treatments Men and women both can get it. Herpes Simplex 1, and Acyclovir from a MD is the best. AOL Search |
My dad used to get terrible ones. He started taking an L-Lysine everyday and does not have the problem anymore. He also heard using a dab of Preparatin-H helps them go away. Before taking the L-Lysine, he would use this remedy. Sorry, I know how painful they can be. |
I have heard that you may get several, and then never get another one. I seem to get a lot of exotic stuff, but have not had the pleasure of a cold sore. |

Hope your cold sore goes away soon. They are the pits. When I have a bad one (If I didn't apply the Abreeva first) I feel like all people see is the cold sore. Like it enters the room two minutes before I do!! Feel better! |

Now, I am good to go, well, as good to go as an old guy with 1/2 a brain can be! |
Lysine works wonders from the inside, and Campho-Phanique(sp?) on the cold sore itself will dry it up in no time! |

I haven't read all of the replies so I hope I'm not repeating someone else but there are 2 things I have found help A LOT with mine. I have always suffered from them but over the last 2 years, it has gotten REALLY bad. I get them way too often! but you will have to leave the house to get these things....but keep them on hand and you won't have to in the future ;) Ok...the first is Colloidal Silver. I get the 500ppm and just use a drop or 2 on the blister a few times a day. Colloidal Silver can be used for a million different things but it does work wonders for fever blisters and other face blemishes. Look it up ;) it's even great for ear infections, cuts and burns...or anything you would use an antibiotic for. The second thing is Lysine. You can take the supplement daily to help prevent them but there is also a cream (found in the same section of wal-mart or other pharmacies as the Abreva). It is clear when you put it on, doesn't hurt, and kills the blister quickly. It has been the best thing for me to carry around in my purse in case I feel one coming on. Nothing else has ever worked as fast as the silver or the Lysine. (silver is my 1st choice but I do carry the Lysine with me all the time) good luck...these things are HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! |
thanks pepe mint pepe mint- When you mentioned colloidal silver for ear infections were you referring to human and canine? I assume so. I would love to hear how you use CS for ear infections in Yorkies, and how it compares to herbal treatments if you have used them. Thanks. |
See if you can get your doctor to write you a prescription for Acyclovir. Its the cheapest way to go prescription-wise. You can take the acyclovir daily to suppress them and increase the dose when you feel one coming on. Also, simple hydrocortisone cream (Cortisone) will help with the redness and swelling some. I'm not a fan of Abreva, as I think Herpasin L or Campo-Phenique dry them up faster. I've had several of patients try the lysine daily, but no one has had much luck with it. Good luck! |
the best thing i've found for fever blisters is Valtrex. I know it's for genital herpes, but it does work for the oral type 1 variety too. take two pills every 12 hours for ONE day as soon as you feel it coming on and it never blisters and simply just fades from a bump into nothing. it's amazing. doctors will prescribe it to cold sore sufferers. |
This is going to sound crazy, but I know people that use ear wax on their cold sores and they swear it works. I googled it and sure enough...lots of results on it. |

I get a prescription from my doctor. The minute you feel them coming on you put it on. They never pop out then. It is very expensive but if you have insurance it will cover. I would not be without it. I would call your doctor. |
