Thanks for the GPS info. I will change "home" to "Target";) |
posting on face book I use face book mainly to grab pics off that my kids put on of my grandchildren. I keep warning them about too much info. They have the state they live in but not the town. What scares me is my 14 year old granddaughter who post pictures of herself all the time in tight clothes and low tops. I think you are suppose to be 18 to even be on face book but she won't listen to her dad or me. She is a beautiful girl and she knows it and loves the attention. I'm scared to death of the kind of attraction she will be getting. These girls today have no idea of what they can get into and as they know "everything" you can't get them to listen. |
Really haven't thought about that. Thanks for the heads up! What bothers me is that my info is readily available on the Internet like People Search | White Pages | Find People | FREE!. There are few other sites that show the information for free. I've been wanting to move out of El Paso someday & when I do, I'll do everything I could to keep my info private like using PO Box. |

I didn't like when my SIL had a slide show showing a virtual tour of her house! Geez, tell when your not home AND give them a layout to study. |
Thanks for the reminder. I normally try not to post about trips until after I am back at home but I made an exception this weekend and did post that I was in Kentucky. I am lucky no unscrupulous people saw it and figured that I wasn't home! I am making a promise to myself to do a better job and get back to telling about trips only AFTER they are completed! That was very dangerous! Sometimes I think we get lulled into a false sense of security and it takes hearing about something horrible like this to remind us of the consequences! Sorry you had to go through such a miserable experience, but I thank you for using it to help others. Like you, I would just be thankful nothing happened to my dogs. The material things can be replaced, but not my pups! |
Oh, I have a GREAT GPS story. Short version: Some guys on the other side of town starting coming to our county and breaking in to cars at night. They hit our neighborhood one night and stole my husband's GPS unit. They caught the guys that week, recovered some of the stuff including DH's GPS--they knew it was his because he could verify the last 3 addresses he went to. Here's the kicker...the guys that stole it took out our home address and put THEIRS in there. So when DH got it back, it still had their address programmed into it, so we knew exactly where the guys lived! |

My GPS won't allow me to put in my direct address only the immediate area. I try to keep mine inside the glove compartment or out of sight when leaving my car. It is really amazing how thieves can figure out all ways of burglarizing your home. |
After reading the first page of this...I will be carrying my GPS with me when I am out and about. I won't be leaving it in the car at all. |
We just had a home invasion on Monday night here in Farmingdale. During the day when a young woman was at home....very scary. |

Holy cow bells. I never thought about that. I want to get my BF a GPS, I'll have to remind him not to put that info in there. |
What's strage is, the AF just sent us a mass email stating not to use the Location Tool on facebook just for this very reason. I don't know why you'd want everyone knowing exactly where you're at all the time. I like to keep a low profile, lol. |
just something to think about when you post after you get home a burglar could see a pattern for instance. my cousin leaves for work every morning at 800 when she gets to work she gets on facebook and comments on the traffic then later in the day she will post again about her husband going to get the kids from school. someone could infer that all that time the house is empty(and it is) A old friend from high school is a stay at home mom but every Thursday she goes and play poker at her church from 6-8 in the evening when she gets home she almost always comments on how her son did at the sitter well since her son is at the sitter every week then her husband must not be home so once again you can infer the house must be empty (now if only you could get through the 4 huge mastiffs and the angry Australian Shepard you would be set) |
