Who Has Been On A Cruise? I would like to start planning a vacation for a cruise to the Bahamas for maybe May/June. This will be my first time going on a cruise. Anyone have any tips/suggestions/money saving ideas? Best time to go...May/June is not set in stone. Anything you would like to share! Thanks!! |
Oh I've been on several cruises and even after visiting Europe I still say a cruise is the best vacation! It's completely reasonable in price. However, I've only been on Carnival cruise line, and while very enjoyable and inexpensive it may be more of a no frills cruise compared to other cruise lines. Still, with that being said - still the best vacation ever! Where are you located? What port will you be leaving from? EDIT: you say Bahamas so I guess you are starting in the south? You may want to consider a cruise that has additional port of call. |

I've been on around 15 cruises and love them! May/June is not peak season for Bahamas/Caribbean so you'll get a better deal. I love the Caribbean (southern) more than the Bahamas but as a first timer you might not mind :) Sugarmamma is the queen of deals so you might want to PM her. She's been on a couple dozen cruises too. Watch out, they are addicting!! Have a great time! |

We go on a cruise every October (sometimes we go in February as well). We always go on Royal Caribbean. Cruises are the best vacation. All your meals are included (unless you go into one of the "specialty restaurants", the entertainment etc. So it works out as being the best value for vacations. They have shore excursions you can sign up for (which are usually reasonably priced) if you don't want to just go ashore on your own and do your own sightseeing. Sugarmamma is trying to get on the cruise we are taking end of October. Would be great if she could. We could really have a blast! |
I've never been on a cruise but I wanna go! I know where to come when I start to go on one with all ya'll as experts! :D |
I have been on many but only with Princess and 1 on Holland American love love love them best vacations ever!!:D...I have found that April is the best time to cruise the caribbean nothing but sunny skies and no worry of a hurricane string up and June 1 is the beginning of hurricane season here in Florida and the caribbean...and book any excursion you plan to do on the islands thur your cruise line you can book them online before your cruise and the ticket will be in you stateroom when you board..I save my money for our cruise by having my Bank take 50.00 or whatever amount you can afford and put it in a saving account by the time my departure date arrive I have the funds to play play and play some more LOL. Good luck on finding the right cruise for you and have LOTS of fun:thumbup: |
Hubby and I took one cruise, we left from New Orleans, (before Katrina), and went to Cozumel and back, I think it was a 4 day cruise, which was perfect for a first timer, IMO. Next time I want to try another cruise line, I hear others are fancier. Honest thoughts: they treat you like royalty, straighten your room 3x a day I think, everyone super friendly and polite. It was the most relaxing, carefree, forget about everything vacation I have ever had & the best vacation money can buy. However, I did not find the food as great as everyone brags on it-perhaps other cruise lines are better. Tips: get the little patches for sea sickness and put them on, and if you are a diet coke/soda junkie like me, buy the card for unlimited soda, you will come out better. |
1 Attachment(s) I love the islands:D This is a picture of the Bahamas. |

The funny thing was people looked at me like I was an alien when I said I did not like the food! The best thing I had was the home made tasting fresh salsa they served! I guess us Southerners don't like bland food, I was thinking, if you find this food good, what in the hell do you eat at home???? :D |
We were sharing a taxi back to the port with another couple one year, and they were saying how terrible the food was. We asked them which cruise line they were on and they said "Carnival" One of the cruises we were on there was a woman who was on RCL for the first time, she said her last cruise was NCL and the free style dining was terrible. My brother in law and his wife just got back from an Alaskan cruise on NCL and my sister in law said he kept saying to her "This sure isn't the Freedom" - his first cruise had been on the Freedom when he went with us in 2006 and this was his second cruise and he was disappointed in the food and the service. Royal Caribbean was the very first cruise line we cruised on and we were so happy with the food and the service that we haven't cruised with any others. If Celebrity cruise lines went out of Port Canaveral I would love to go on one of their cruises. (they are a sister cruise line of RCL) |

I still think that even if the food is sub par, it's still the best vacation ever! |

I took ONE cruise...we went to Bermuda. Apparently I found out (the hard way) that I can not sleep on a cruise ship while it is in motion:eek: So needless to say...i do not like cruises. But I have gone to the bahamas and its absolutely FABULOUS!!!!! :D |

Maybe you would want to consider one of two things? The first being - fly to Florida. I just saw a trip on SW that is $85 each way to Ft. Lauderdale in May. You can then take a 3 or 4 day cruise from Florida and save money. Or, I found a 5 night Royal Caribbean cruise to Bermuda for much cheaper than the Carnival cruise to the Bahamas Cruise Details - Royal Caribbean International I find myself oddly addicted to planning trips:rolleyes: Quote:

I've been on 25 cruises and I can tell you that cruising is the best vacation ever (at least for hubby and me). My favorite line is Royal Caribbean. I have also sailed on Carnival, Celebrity, NCL, Princess. The best cruise line for you is not necessarily the best for me. It's kind of like going to Vegas vs going to Hawaii - both great vacations but different. I have a really great travel agent that I met thru the internet. She gets the best deals of any agent that I have check with. Now I don't even check with other agents. Cruises from Baltimore are typically higher priced than Florida cruises. Sometimes it's worth the flight to get a better cruise rate. You can send me a PM with any specific questions about ports or cruise lines/ships. I LOVE cruising and love to share my experiences with others. There are also a couple really great websites that you can check out: www.cruisecritic.com and www.cruise-addicts.com. Both have forums and lots of knowledgeable people. Oh, and I have cruised both the beginning and end of May and found the weather to be great. Good luck doing research and, like I said, feel free to PM me....................... Pat |
Wow...thanks for all the great info ladies!!:thumbup: |

cruises I Have been on many cruises and I am a travel agent. I use to book large group cruises with between 30 and 60 people in each group. Also booked just one cruise. I owned my own travel agency for many years ,until my husband got very ill and i am not doing it at this time. I will say cruising is the best vacation someone can take. Out of Baltimore, they have 2 cruise lines going out of there port at this time. At least the last time I checked. I still get all the info from all the cruse lines and try to keep up on the latest. I would be able to help you out if you have any questions. If the children are going along all cruise lines have great children's cruise groups. They entertain the children the whole time. The kids love it and the parents do not have to worry. When I was booking groups it was great because I would give each person in the group a on board credit of $200.00. If you have any questions just send me a message. If anyone wants to do a group I can help with that as well. My agency name is, Are We There Yet? Travel Services. I have not book in about 6 months but sure can help you out. Good Luck. |
Yup, I am a cruisin' nut! :) |

I sure wish we could take the Yorkies. Used to watch old movies and these rich ladies would always have their little dogs on board. Times have changed (unless that only happened in the movies:)) |

I see your from the Treasure Coast me too..Port St. Lucie. :wavey: Hi neighbor. |
Ive been on 2 cruises, a 5 day to Jamaica and Grand Cayman on Royal Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, which was AWESOME! I also did a 7 day to Bermuda from Boston on Norweigen which was pretty great too! They do treat you like royalty, room always clean, good meals, entertainment pretty much 24/7. I really want to do the new Royal Caribbean ship Oasis or Allure. My dad just got back from a week on the new Norweigen cruise, the Epic. He said it was amazing but geared towards tweens and teens so he wouldn't do it again but he's glad he saw the ship. |
My husband and I were on the Oasis and it is an amazing ship. We went on during the 5th week - great cruise! |
