Let's Talk Washing Machines :) Okay I need a new washer. the options out there are bewildering. Steam, High efficiency, front, top, loaders, gawd knows they may have upside down loaders too:D I want something that can handle all our pet hair which just about gets into and onto everything. What are every1's favourites and why please |
I can't wait to see what people have to say. I also need a new washer. Yesterday all the water from the washing machine was all over the laundry room. This thread will make the job of finding a new washing machine so much easier. I have no idea where to begin, there are so many of them out there. |
I have a friend that recently bought a new front loading washer and she hated it. She said the clothes did not get cleaned that well. She sent it back and got a top loader. I don't know what brand it was. I have always used top loading washers. |
Top loaders are always better because if you forget something you can always just throw it in after it started... |

I have a Maytag top loader that's still going strong after 9 years and never had any work so far. I have friends who have the front loaders and they love them. They all have several dogs each and mostly the shedding ones. I don't know, I have thought that my next one would be a top loader, but would have to check with the consumers report to see which brand has the highest rating. |

Well, I have my very first front loader. It is a Miele and is compact in design. I have had it 3 years and wish I had a basic Whirlpool top loading washer again. The Miele doesn't have the capacity to wash as much laundry in one load as the top loading types. It does clean things better though. And uses a lot less detergent. Now my biggest issue is the dryer. (Also a Miele) The clothes come out wrinkled because I stuff the washer and the dryer does better with small loads. We are a family of 4 and 2 furbutts. |
I have an LG front loader...LOVE IT! |
We got a used Maytag top loader, the one that has the rotating drum and I just love it. It washes really really clean with about a third of the detergent I used before and it's huge and high efficiency too (and cost us only $125 :)) |
Let's Talk Washing Machines I just went through this. I had a four year old Fisher Paykel, top loading, super energy efficient but it did not get the clothes clean, and I could not wash a blanket or a comforter. It got an error code for the third time, so I decided it was time to go b/c I hated it after a while. Well I did my research this time and got myself a Samsung, which I LOVE! It does blankets, comforters, gets everything super clean and is as quiet as can be. I got a red one and love to do my laundry now. Highly recommend it! PS Front loading. |
I bought a GE front loading washer and dryer set 3 years ago. I was just as happy with the top loading set that I'd had for 20+ years. Not to say that the front loaders aren't good....I just don't think they're worth the extra $$$$, even though they're much more attractive. I had huge, super size drums in my top loading set, so I could wash/dry just as large of loads in them as I can with these front loaders. The one thing I really do like about the front loaders are the pedestal drawers you can buy to stand them on - great extra storage space! |
I have a Maytag set that is going on 8 years old and they still look like new. The washer is a top loader, extra large, and has done very well with heavy duty use. My only problem is that it has a tendency to go off balance with towels/blankies and it doesn't shut itself down like my former Maytag. I have read online many complaints about these machines "dancing." Some say Maytag isn't what it used to be. |
Recently replaced my 14year old Whirpool toploader with a Whirlpool front loader and HATE it. Lots of bells and whistles, but bottom line it doesn't clean as well (sometimes clothes have musty smell!), and I had to replace the seal (2 months after warranty expired) for a cost of $260!!! My next one will be a toploader for sure. |
I have a front loader Maytag super large and love it. Washes everything CLEAN and uses less detergent than I used before in my smaller top loader. I only use the cold water feature and use cold water detergent. Best advice ever. My dryer is Maytag super large as well so no problem with stuffing it. Love it. :luvu: Blankets, bedspreads, even plush doggy rugs, PERFECT. The only complaint is that once it starts I cannot add stuff to it, so I learned to get it right the first time. Not a bad thing to learn. Would recommend highly. BTW it is a gas washer/dryer not an electric only. Makes a difference. Sears brand (Kenmore) is just as good (I believe it is made by Whirlpool/Maytag also). Good Luck! |
I have the Magtag Neptune front loader washer and dryer and HATE them. Well, at least the washer. There is no way to adjust the water level. You may save a lot on water but because it uses less, but it doesn't "float" the dog hair off it just spreads it around. The problem with that is it ends up on things that didn't start with hair on it and even ends up on the inside of your clothes. UGH The other problem is the washer dances across the floor and sounds like a helicopter during the spin cycle. It makes the house vibrate to the point where things slide across table tops. I kept wondering why my hubby was moving my candle holders so close to the edge of the table. Well, it wasn't him, it's the darn washer! Ours is on pedestals and on sub flooring which compounds the problem. Maybe if it was on a concrete floor with no pedestal, it would not do the dance. My next set will be back to the top loader style. |

Thanks gals. I think I'm going to go with the top loader top. Not sure what brand though. Will start to do the consumer reports. Now if they only had a DYSON PET HAIR Washing Machine:D |
There was a thread on this not too long ago... my reply is still true http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/3085046-post34.html :D |

Just run your Dyson vacuum over your clothes before you wash them. ;);) |

No kidding :D Right now though it's the spice police. This past week I was looking for Spanish Paprika Picante and now there's a link for that up there. Maybe I should pay closer attention to those links and see if other things I look for show up there. Strange.... |

I think in general the front loaders smell musty cuz you can't really leave the door open to dry out ~ major design flaw  |
We are using Samsung Wa90v3 fully automatic washing machine and it is really convenient |
I got an LG front loader a few months ago, and I love it. It cleans great and is very quiet. I had a Maytag Neptune before it, and there were problems with not completely draining the water out. I paid a lot of money for it, and there were a lot of known other problems with it, as well. I love the new colored steamwashers, but we didn't want to spend the amount of money that they cost since we're not sure if we want to move in the next few years. I thought the LG wouldn't be as good as the Maytag since it was less money so many years later, but technology has definitely improved. The dryer dries so much faster since the clothes aren't very wet coming out of the washer, and I can't believe how clean the clothes are. I was puzzled why there wasn't a light on the door of the washer and there is one on the dryer. I realized that, with the front loader, they tell you to leave the door open a few minutes so that it completely dries out. I love the front loaders because they are much gentler on your clothes. I wash silk sweaters and even some of my wool sweaters using Dreft. I wouldn't go back to a top loader, but there may be things about them that I'm not aware of, and I'm sure they work great too. It has been about ten years since I've used the top loader, and I love them. |
I have a whirlpool top loader. It's only about 3 years old but it is energy efficient and I love it!! It doesn't have an agitator so you can stick just about anything in. I stick in dog beds and a ton of other stuff that you wouldn't normally be able to put in a washer and they come out looking like new. It even has a whitest white cycle that I use for washing pee pads. The pads come out as white as can be smelling and looking like new!! It does get a lot of the hairs out. We have to use a hair trap for the sink drain as there is so much hair. What I really like is that once you take everything out, there iare no hairs clinging to the inside of the washer that you have to clean out. I had to do that in the past with other washers and I hated it. |

I have a Whirlpool front load. I don't think I would go front load again. I love my friend's Whirlpool top loader. |
