Can I get your opinion on paypal Im thinking about eliminating my merchant services on my website because the fees are ridiculous and I'd like to just make paypal my checkout system. Now days anybody can use any credit card thru paypal without having to actually set up a paypal account so there is really no difference. However I know a lot of people dont know that about paypal and so anyways my questions is what do you think of paypal? If you were shopping on a website and paypal was the only checkout method (although you can still use any of your credit/debit cards) would this turn you off? would you be okay with it? |
I would be fine with it. Paypal and I are good friends. I have another good friend,:D ATM |
On the websites that offer separate cc services and paypal...I chose the former the majority of the time and always with a merchant I've never purchased anything from previously. Simply because using my credit card offers me more protection than paypal. I personally wouldn't limit the manner in which someone could pay me. I'd offer all options. There are still plenty of people out there who do not have a paypal account nor wish to open one. |
If I already had dealings with the company, I'd be fine with it. Otherwise I might hesitate. I do think it makes the most sense, but some are still not going to want to go through Paypal at all even without an account. I think it may negatively affect your business, but how much I don't think anybody can say. I've looked into merchant accounts before though and the are crazy expensive. :( |
Have you tried to get better credit card rates? The paypal rates are higher for me than my credit card fees.. Try asking around or asking them to review of your rates. |
Well, e-bay is always growing and their main payment method is paypal. i have no problem using it . XOXO |

I always use paypal, and a credit card to pay paypal, if I have a dispute, I have my credit card company handle it, so I'm doubly protected. I'll go to a site that has paypal, rather than just credit cards, I just don't like giving my card number all the time. Paypal is so easy to obtain, if someone has a credit card they can sign up for it fast. |
I did all my PocoMutt sales with PayPal and never had any problems. Your customers don't even have to sign up with PayPal and can use any major credit card. I also love the merchant features with the shopping cart and the statistics... |
I use my paypal whenever a merchant takes paypal. It would be taking a risk to limit the ways a person can pay but if I remember right Des at Gofetch is just paypal and it obviously hasnt hurt her |
When given a choice, I always select Paypal because the merchant doesn't get my credit card information that way. I had a problem with a store I'd ordered from for years about a year ago. Their website was hacked and I had some fraudulent charges on my credit card. I had to cancel the credit card. What a hassle. I have been selling bows using Paypal for six years and love it. Most people seem to have a Paypal account, but those that don't just make a one time payment with a credit card. I have never lost a customer because I don't take credit cards directly. |

Well, I don't like Paypal very much. After using my credit card through my Paypal account for about a year and a half, I can no longer use my credit card with Paypal unless I verify my account by giving them my bank account info or opening a PayPal credit card since I've hit my sending limit, which I am very hesitant to do. I don't want them to have my checking account information and I certainly have no reason to want a PP credit card, and I don't understand their reasoning for this when I have spent lots of money and never had an issue with any sellers. Also, if I try to use that same credit card for a one-time payment with Paypal it won't let me since it is connected to my account. |
I actually prefer PayPal, as the merchant never sees my credit card info;) Also, they have a thing you can download and it will generate a disposable MasterCard (good only for the one purchase) for you. Then you can use PayPal to check out anywhere, even when they don't accept it:D |
I do not know what system you use for your accounting, I use quick books and they offer billing solutions. It allows me to email an invoice and the customer clicks on a link to pay. You can also get them to be set up as your shopping cart on your site. I have pay pal and have never had any problems. I also like the fact that you can get a buisiness pay pal debit card. This way you have your funds instantly, other wise it takes 2-3 days getting to your bank. But, I like have another option besides pay pal. |
I have had paypal for yrs, and they have gotten my money back for me a few times. And protected me from people wanting the merchandise and the money they paid back (mostly scammers on ebay). I use paypal only online! If a store doesn't have it, I shop elsewhere. |
Being new at selling I like taking paypal for the ease. I do not sell enough yet to open merchant accounts so PP works for me. I have not have any issues with them to date. As a buyer, I like the sites that take paypal so I don't have to get my credit card out every time. There are lots of times I surf the web and do not have my cc info handy. I don't have the info in my head so paypal makes so much more convenient to shop but then that is bad in it's own way--LOL. |
I would stay with Paypal and wouldn't worry about not offering other cc options. I think most anyone that buys dog clothing on-line does have a paypal account. I actually prefer using paypal to using my card, with some of the merchants I don't know how secure their sites really are. |
I use Paypal only for my computer repair biz and haven't had any problems with it, and you can set up your personal account as a business account without any extra fees, and this allows people to just type in their cc info and go on their marry way without signing up for a paypal account, but most people I've dealt with already have a paypal account. |
If I run across something online and they don't take PP, I look for it on a website that does. PP is that convenient. They take care of disputes and I don't have to give my CC to everyone. I, too have disputed CC issues and PP did not close my account. I've never had a problem with them. My daughter made the mistake of answering one of those stupid phishing emails from a fake PP email asking for info and her checking account got wiped out. Bank of America gave her all her money back. But none of that was PP's fault. I'm pretty sure that everyone with a PP account has at one time or another received one of those bad emails and just deletes them, or as I do, forwards them directly to PP's fraud division. |
I used paypal initially when I started my online store. I had several people contact me to complain and ask if there was another way to render payment. It happened enough that I got an authorize.net merchant account in addition to paypal. I like paypal but I always use my AMEX for freq flyer miles. :D |

Paypals is great but I wish I offered another method. I get calls all the time asking what paypals is and why they have to use that method. I explain its a merchant service and they don't need to have an account to pay and can bypass that step and pay directly with a credit card. |

Thanks everyone for all your help, I now have new concerns but also feel a little more confident that I could get by with just using paypal on the website if I need to which I think I will in the next few months just to cut expenses before baby #2 comes lol :) Thanks everyone |
