Dropped my Blackberry in the Toilet...HELP! A public toilet no less. I took the battery out and put them both in a bowl and covered them with rice as soon as I got home. Can anyone tell me if this has worked for them and saved their phone.:( I am so sick about this. |
I've heard of the rice trick...not sure if it really works...let us know the outcome |
OMG, I about did that once with my blackberry, I would let it dry out for a day before trying. I hope it works for you. Keep us updated, so I will know just in case I do the same. |
I take it you don't have insurance? That is just so gross!:eek::eek: I'd never heard of the rice treatment. You will have to report back your findings. But I hope it works but eeewwwww!!!! |

Everything I read about phones and water suggested the rice trick, so we will see. I may be looking for a new phone on the sprint network...anyone. lol |
I never heard of the rice trick but when I dropped mine in the pool I used a hair dryer to dry it and it worked fine after that |
My daughter dropped hers in our hot tub and we did the rice "trick". We left it there for 2 days...it works fine now. |
I don't know which would make me more sick...dropping the phone in a public (or any) toilet or reaching in after it! Sorry 'bout your phone... |
The rice trick saved my SIL's phone after it went through the WASHING MACHINE!! :D Good Luck! P.S. There is also those techies that recommend rubbing alcohol to displace the water. Just research it before taking my advise ;) |
I did the SAME thing to my BB... but thankfully it was my own toilet, LOL. It fell out of my pocket. I just let it dry out for a day and it did come back on and I was able to make/receive calls but everything else pretty much broke. I ended up getting an iPhone since my BB contract was almost up anyways! |

I read a few things about the alcohol, however, I was afraid to try that. I just want my dry phone back.:( |

It should be ok - just give it a day or 2. I think mine took 2 full days. |
Whatever you do, DO NOT!!!!! push any of the buttons on the phone until it is 100% completely dry. The contacts will get ruined if they are pushed together while wet/damp. A phone repairman told me that one, though it wouldn't matter on my Iphone:laugh: And yes, if a phone is already wet, particularly with dirty or salt water, it's okay to rinse it really quickly with fresh water before the drying process. It's actually preferred, as the dirty or salt water will leave crystals behind when it dries (salt or crud). good luck, I hope the rice trick works!!!! *fingers crossed* P.S. Insurance would've done you no good anyway, I don't know of any plans/carriers that cover water damage;) |

yes, the rice trick does work, it draws out the moister, and the ziploc is probably a better bet, cause you have a closed in environment. I would leave it in their for a few days, then power it on |
I've heard that you should remove the battery first and then put it in a zip lock bag with rice. Good luck, hope it works for you!!! |
Ive heard several people tried the rice trick and it worked. I accidently washed my iphone in the washing machine and I didnt know about the rice trick at that time. It was a bad day so I know how you feel! |
My phone does not have a SIM card but I did remove the SD card and battery and placed them in the bowl of rice. I didn't cover the bowl, I was thinking the moisture needed to evaporate and not sweat. I hope it still works. I am so happy to see this trick has worked for so many of you. :) :) :) |
My nephew did the same thing with his DS game and the rice trick worked! I hope it will work for you. |
I hope this works!! My mom just went swimming with her brand new iPhone 4g and had to have it replaced. Good luck! |

If I go that route I will just have them meet me at a Sprint store. |
:yay_jump: <----- this was me at 6 a.m. this morning. The rice worked! I have my phone back!! YAY! So, if your phone ever decides to go for a swim. Immediatly take the battery out, DO NOT push any buttons, and put them both in a bowl and cover with rice. Wait at least 2 days, pray, pray, and pray some more. Then put it all back together, read all your missed texts, and call someone to celebrate being back in the cell phone world.:) |
Glad to hear your phone is back |

Oh YAY!!!!!!1 Glad to know that it works, and I'll remember this trick just in case;) |
I came in to say I'd read about the rice trick before but never used it myself. I'm so glad it worked for you! :D I think the key is NOT touching it at all for at least 48 hours. |
My daughter did that with hers. I wrapped each part up in tin foil and put it in the freezer for a hour and it came back on. I used to work at a cell phone place and it was different tricks we would try. Even puting it in the dryer. Depends on how bad the phone is already. The rice bag never seemed to work. |
