Any Old House Owners Here? 4 Attachment(s) I am the proud owner of a 1912 Craftsman bungalow and was wondering if there are any other YorkieTalkers on here that also own an old home. Anyone out there? I love looking at pictures and talking 'old house'. Here are a couple pictures of my house :D 1. The front of the house before we moved in. Please ignore the previous owner's junk  2. One of the rooms with finished floors. 3. The beautiful original windows... NOT energy efficient but they are staying! Can't choose efficiency over character and beauty :p 4. The original cabinets. Also staying... we love them and the character they bring the house. |
I LOVE Craftsman bungalows. My favorite style of architecture. I have owned an old Colonial style house and a Queen Ann Cape style house...both in New England. Maybe some day I will have a craftsman. I love older houses. We now live in a 1952 ranch/hacienda style house...it fits the Southwestern setting. It has some lovely details. |
Our is a 1929 Bungalow. |
I LOVE old houses! Your's is beautiful. I'm jealous. |
Love your house... I also like the yellow. I have a 1939 Cape Cod. |
Well stand back ladies because I have an 1987 home previoulsy owned by an elderly bachelor! :p I love old homes. :)Your house is beautiful. I am pleased to see that you are keeping all the original character. It makes me so sad to see these homes ripped of thier original original details. |
3 Attachment(s) I do! We live in a early 1900s (1904-1907) Sears and Roebuck Craftsman Bungalow - complete with pocket french doors and the original claw foot tub! It has a lot of really neat features in it. Certainly cannot find houses with this kind of character anymore. We have done a lot of work to it and are just in love with it! |

I know... I see all these people updating windows and replacing the floors... what a waste of character :( I hope to bring back the woodwork to the original finish and keep as much character as possible. |

I LOVE old homes & all the pics are beautiful! Houses are just not made that way anymore! My dream has always been to have a vintage craftsman, victorian, anything with character & details! Every time I go anywhere I always look to see if they have vintage home tours! Sigh, maybe one day! |

I lived in a Chicago bungalow built in 1919 and owned by a friend. Took many years off of my life stripping paint off of woodwork and windows. :p Loved the leaded glass windows, plaster walls, and extensive woodwork and built-ins. Sadly, many of the bungalows in the Chicago suburbs have been torn down and replaced with "mcmansions" that are too big for the lots. |
1 Attachment(s) Awww... your home is gorgeous! I just love the color and the windows and the kitchen and all of it! You are sooooo lucky! We have a 1920 farmhouse style home and we love it to pieces. It's a work in progress and my hobby. When I first saw it my initial reaction was OH NO!!! not with this kitchen and WHAT'S THAT SMELL?!? Well, that was 5 years ago and I wouldn't trade it in for a villa. Oh... and actually it's name is 'Villa Vanilla'. When we moved in I had a dream in the first night where the house talked to me, bid us a warm welcome and told me it's name is Villa Vanilla...LOL! I renovated the whole house single handed (my dh is a scientist and if he would have helped we would have probably not yet finished the first room... ;)) but last year we had to go to ABQ and rented the house to a dear 'friend' of mine who paid a minimal rent and was supposed to take care of it while we were gone. To keep a long story short, I'm renovating the whole house again... which is kinda fun b/c I can change whatever I like. Since we are on a very tight budget I developed a talent that could be called "design on a nickel"... So if you need some ideas how to do things really really cheap just ask! I lately started to redo my kitchen which was a 1950s blah affair and now it looks like a Tuscan style one. I haven't taken pics yet but they will follow... |
I love old houses too, but it feels quite creepy :( |
I live in an old victorian. I will get pictures later. Its in a less than desirable neighborhood but the house is great and the price was a steal of a price since its in this neighborhood. It has stain glass windows, skylights, the original fireplace, jenn air stove, hot tub and theirs a koi pond in the back yard. I love it and my mortgage is cheap. |

Your house sounds amazing... I just love drooling over pictures. Can't wait to see them! |
4 Attachment(s) Here are some pictures of some stuff we've done 1. A door we stripped paint from. Still needs to be sanded... 2. The adhesive we've been slowly scraping from the floors. It is disgusting and comes up like tar. 3. The woodwork we've begun stripping... I don't understand why anyone would ever paint over this beautiful wood... 4. The beams that we want to strip but are intimidated by them. They are all over our ceiling and covered in not only paint but texture! Disgusting... |
I live in a 1929 Colonial in New England. We did entire house renovations and it was a huge undertaking. We kept almost all the original features of the house - oak flooring (some with mahogany inlay), pine flooring, wide mouldings and an old claw foot tub was restored. We did add some updates and had to complete gut rooms (kitchen, bathrooms) but we did put the house back to where it was. We added additional features to go with the house too. Unfortunately my windows had to go - I practically cried in the replacement window stores. I still havent gotten over it. Love my old house - even with its settled foundations, it's creeky noises, and its lack of central air conditioning. |
Michelle, You have a lovely home!! It will take some work to get the paint stripped and all the rest...but in the end your home will be just as you imagine it to be now! The beams are just wonderful!! Take your time doing each project and I hope you will post pictures as you go! |
wow Its beautiful has charm new homes dont |
1920 craftsman, just stripped uncountable number of layers of paint and wallpaper from our bedroom walls. getting ready to strip the untold years of old varnish off the windows. our bedroom has been in the living room for months. the other bedroom is a walk-in closet because y'all know how much closet space there is in old houses....nada long, slow process..... but do love the front porch and all the little cubbies and storage suprises that are built in, just wish some were closets..LOL |
we have a 1920 farm house. I love the potential this house has, but we rent it and the landlord doesn't take very good care of the outside and there's only so much we're allowed to do with the inside. :( I want to buy it when I'm older and fix it up. |

WOW!!! I love old homes and yours is gorgeous!!!! Keep up the good work:exclaim::cheer: |
How do you know what style the house is? My dad bought a house built in 1943 and that is all I know. He rents it out now, but I hope to be his new tenant by the end of the year. It's small, 2 bed and 1 bath but the mortgage is less than $800 a month. Great big back yard with 2 guava trees, a plum tree, and I plan to plant a lime tree when I move in. It will be a lot of work since the last 4 tenants didn't take care of the house. |
