Directv or Dish Network?
 
We have Directv right now but were thinking of switching to Dish. What is your experience with Dish? Is it better? According to their advertisement, we would be saving about 30 dollars a month by swithing.

We have DirectTV and were also thinking about switching to Dish only to get their introductory offer. However, my SIL switched from DirectTV to Dish and they have not been happy with it and will be switching back as soon as their promotional period is over. So, I am not sure what the differences are, but I will be watching your thread to find out.

We to have direct, my son has had Dish and was not pleased and switched back to Direct

I've had Directv come out here 3 times this month alone for service calls! My signal goes out even if it's drizzling just a little. Heck, it could be sunny out!

spray some Rainx on the disc it works well we have used it in the winter time

I have Directv. Their the only ones that carry the NFL package.I will switch as soon as someone else starts carrying the football package.Their prices keep going up!It's starting to get ridiculous!When they first came out they were cheaper then cable,now,their probably more then cable!The service itself isn't bad though!

I spray "Pam" on my dish in the winter.The snow rolls right off it.

That is hysterical.. and the rainx.. actually both very clever! Who knew!

I have fiberoptic cable by Verizon Fios. It is buried underground and never have to worry about rain or outage.
Its lightening fast internet too.
I dont think it is everywhere there. But.. I can imagine going to a dish now..after this.

What other tricks do you guys have up your sleeves. I dont get snow..but I bet ya ll have some other clever idea:D

I have direct tv - mine goes out in bad storms but only when it's really on top of us- so far so good - I thought of switching to dish but now am not sure after reading the replies

and ya - it IS getting more and more expensive. I miss cable but where I live only offers a certain cable company and I couldn't stand the remote - picky I know but I like to put reminders on the tv - when they did the switchover I dropped them and went to Direct Tv

I did have a cute cable guy though for a neighbor -

I have a very strong dislike for Direct Tv. I had them and the customer service was really really bad. Its a long story but I would never go back to them.

Hate directv. They lied and raked me over the coals. False charges, was supposed to give me discounts, I called at least 20 times, each time I got an I'm so sorry, we will get that fixed for you right away, even at the end I called and insisted on supervisors, had names/numbers/dates of previous calls and nothing ever got fixed. Just thinking about it is getting my blood boiling!
I now have dish and other than it going out a couple times (the pam/rain x are excellent ideas) I have not had to call them or fight for discounts I was entitled too.
Do a google search and go to rip-off report, found out after the fact thousands of complaints against them. But maybe dish does too, not really sure.
All I know is I had a horrible experience and will never go back.
Once my contract expires with dish, I may actually get package deal with cable company for tv/phone/internet.

Although we have no problems with directv service if cable was available in my area i would go for it because i hate the high channel #'s and our local channels are Nashville,Tn 90 miles away

I hear you - I would go back to cable but remember comcrap oops - comcast :rolleyes:- took over the company I originally started with and the customer service went downhill from there

I remember all my stuff going down almost every day from 1-5 in the afternoon and it took almost 2 months before a GOOD repair guy solved the problem - all the rest who came out never did fix it

good thing with cable is you don't have to worry about storms knocking out your service -

I have a whine though - there's just too many channels these days ! It blows my mind ....I never flip thru the guide because it would take me days - but I bet MEN love it

what is it about men and their remotes ? my (late) husband always held it and so does my dad ...he falls asleep with it in his hand and my poor mom (who just fractured her hip but out of the hospital thankfully) can't reach it when he does this :D

QUESTION - Does Pam really work to secure your service during storms with Rain ? We don't have snow in Texas but I'm up for trying it !

I haven't used pam but we do use Rainex and it helps a lot

men & remotes yes mine is so addicted to it he has the numbers wore really bad

so glad your mom is doing better give her a big hug and thank God that you still have her.. my mom lived with me for 2 yrs before she passed in 88 i still miss her so much... sometimes she would tell me that she hated for me to have to do so much for her... i would tell her that when i was a little girl you took care of me now you are my little girl she always thought that was funny

Thank you so much !! I am blessed to still have them and when they get this age it's like every late night call is a scare - I tell myself all the time how lucky I am to have such great living parents realizing so many don't have this luxury .....mine are 83 but it hurts your heart seeing the decline

mine is saying the same thing about having to rely on us but we keep plugging and she's making progress.....this whole month has just been a rollercoaster in so many ways

I'm sorry you lost your mom - i can tell you had to have been very very close.

Speaking of Direct tv - mine just went out - it JUST started raining and boom - it's down. There goes my morning news before going to work

edited to add - where do you get Rainex ? I've never heard of it

auto parts store or walmart i am sure there are many more places that have it

it's weird - the rain started lightly it went down - then the storm got WORSE and it came back on :rolleyes:- it's pouring AND thundering. My 2 girls aren't very happy

So true, and most of them are junk! I realized when you said this that I pay a lot of money for a ton of infomercial channels :mad:

About the pam and the rain, I don't think it would work because you aren't getting your signal due to cloud cover; it's not something blocking your dish like snow. Just a thought.

Me too - they have it set up where if there's channels you really want you have to jump up a tier and most all of the other channels ARE nothing but junk - hundreds of them

IF I didn't like the one channel I receive I'd drop the high rate and go basic because things are very tight these days

and thanks for the tip about the Rainex - no snow in houston !

Remote? Seriously, what is that? I am pretty good at electronics, but when it comes to a remote, I have no clue. Hmm, could it be that I never get a chance to touch it? LOL. If it were not for my hubby, I wouldn't even have our Direct TV/Cable. This is pretty much the scene in my house..... :D

Yes!Pam really works,the rain and snow roll right off it.I've even used spray on car wax a few times!I never used Rain X,but, I can't imagine why that wouldn't work just as good.

After having a disagreement with the cable company we switched to Directv. We were happy, then Dish network came to the door offering us a deal. Was cheaper, so we switched to Dish. After several months we switched back to Directv. Only problem we have is every now and then they call with a "special" offer - last one was the whole package with NFL for only $2 more than we were paying. It was for 5 months. So, we took it. When the 5 months were up I called to cancel, only to find out we couldn't get our original package as they no longer carried it, had to select another.
Then when we got the bill, even though we cancelled the special, we were billed for the NFL Sunday ticket package. I called them and was told it would be adjusted on our next bill. I was upset at having to pay the extra that month. Being on a limited income every penny counts.

But we do prefer Directv over Dish network.

LOL I hear you - we had 2 raindrops the other morning and boom... down I went - the weird thing is - when it really started raining it came back on :)

I miss having cable - but the good ones aren't offered in my apartment complex - the cable wasn't bad when I first moved here but when tv made the switchover - I didn't like the changes in their service (they dropped alot of features) so went to Direct tv -

I'm with you V i miss having cable, having the local news was something now we don't even have that, our local now is Nashville and i live 90 miles away in Ky. i think direct changes their charges every month or two we get a bill for x amount for a couple of months then here comes one with $5 to $10 extra added on. I would have to tell them what to do with it but the remote king is really addicted big time :rolleyes:

You nailed it ! we start out with a set bill and for some reason - it gets higher and higher - I don't even have movie channels and my bill is stupidly outrageous. All the phone companies and cable companies can nickle and dime you silly and there isn't a thing we can do but complain and hope they make it right.

edited to add - when a tv goes down for any length of time - you can call them to take those daily charges off your bill cause IF you don't speak up - you're paying for a service you aren't even getting.

I left directv for dish network for their multi room DVR... Worst decision ever every little thing my tv goes out, sometimes it's sunny outside and it still says searching for signal. It's gets very annoying when you are recording something and it just re-boots, long story short I'm going back to directv they will be coming on the 29th to install and I couldn't be happier!

wow - makes you wonder about all the claims they have on tv commercials

I hear alot of people go to dish network -then BACK to Direct tv - that says alot
