I just spoke to a friend of mine who had the same virus you have. He tried everything and his only solution was to reinstall windows, which I believe is the disk you have.

You have to put the disk in your computer. Restart your computer. Let your computer boot up with the disk. Reinstall Windows.

You will lose everything on your computer. It will be (hopefully) as though you just bought a new computer.

Do you need to save anything on your computer or can you just wipe it out? You can save things to an external hard drive (you would have to go buy one).

Like I said in my earlier post, there are local businesses that will fix your computer, and save all your information. We went to Data Doctors, they have offices all of the country, it's cheaper than buying a new computer.

I hurried to get back on here as soon as I could this morning. I'm so relieved that Connie and Patti have talked to Patti. It looks like she's getting some great advice and help here.

I just feel awful that the link I pasted started this. :( My feeling is she already had the virus or malware and it struck at the same time she was trying to prevent it.

That could very well be the easiest and best choice for Patti. I haven't seen her come back online.

No it wasn't your link. Once you have certain viruses, they redirect your computer. Lets say you are trying to open one link, they redirect your computer to wherever they want, and many will even redirect you to a site that says you are infected and for a certain amount of money will fix your computer. They are scammers and don't fix your computer, but do charge you money. They can even redirect you to fake ebays or fake banks. You should always have a good virus protection on your computer, and keep it updated.

Thank you both. I was pretty sure it wasn't my link, but that makes me feel better.

I think Connie tried the link and had no problem so it looks like it is Patti's computer. I hope she can get it fixed. I know there is a picture she doesn't want to lose. I'm not sure but can she use a zip drive to save the picture?

I'm not sure about a zip file. She can email anyone the photo and they can save it on their computer.

I talked with Patti a couple of times today. She was so upset last night that she couldn't sleep. She put that recovery disc in her computer and has now lost everything. I told her last night she should shut off her computer and we'd get it figured out, but I think she was so frustrated that she just decided to put in that disc. Now there is nothing on her computer. She said she is going to take a hammer to it, and knowing Patti, she just might. I feel bad and hopefully she will get a new computer soon, as we will all miss her here.

The second time she called was to say she had talked to her daughter, Jackie. Jackie is so very ill and has been for so long, and they cannot find out what is wrong with her. Patti is so scared and was in tears when she called. She feels so helpless, as Jackie lives in N Carolina, so clear across the US. She asked me to post on the prayer thread for Jackie, but I thought I'd also do it here as more may see it. It is so scary when someone is so very ill and they cannot find out what is causing it.

Oh Connie, I don't know what to say. Of course I knew about Jackie but I didn't realize things were so bad. Things like a computer virus seem so minor in comparison. I know you will keep us updated on Patti. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to her.

Oh, goodness poor Patti is going through so much. Bonbon you are right about the virus seeming so minimal. I feel so badly for her.

Connie - you're such a good friend - she called me also and she'd told me about her daughter - I felt so bad too....

if you speak with her again tell her everything will work out ....they'll find out what's wrong with her daughter and she has my prayers also

I just talked to Patti and she wanted everyone to know how much she appreciates their prayers for Jackie. She wanted to say she continues to support YT even though she won't be on for awhile.

Awww....I'm praying for her daughter.

Didn't she wipe out her computer? Isn't it functional now?
