I have a friend who's a Marine and does some of their survival training. He said it's a running joke to tell their class to "never do anything Bear does." After watching the episode he did in northern AL, in the winter, where he warned to watch for alligators!?...I kind of think he may be right! |

My Grandfather raised racing pigeons, and had a pigeon coup on the top level of his building. Yes, a pigeon was throw in the sauce of Sundays Spaghetti dinner. I ate pigeon and really liked it back then, but then again, as a 4 year old, I had my own little glass for red wine, so maybe I was not really with it, if you know what I mean. |

I don't hunt but my Dad and brother did growing up they would go hunting with lots of beer;) and me and my sisters and mom would get money to go shopping!! I always looked forward to their wonderful tales of wild boar hunting:eek: they actually brought one home once and had it mounted hung the head on the wall. It was so gross! As for me I would rather shop:p |

Steve, I just saw the hog pics - I was quite impressed to see that big monster you took with a bow. I hope you were in a tree :D - a wild hog in a good mood is a mean sucker I can only imagine what a pissed off wild hog would do. I sure wish I had a hunter here to bag some bucks. I would love to have a freezer full to feed the furkids. |

with another arrow, and a 45 ACP round. (I always pack a 45 ACP Colt when in TX, and I am licensed to conceal carry there from my AZ permit) They are just tough. Once, I shot from about 200 yards away and he was running on an angle towards me. It was a good shot, behind the right shoulder. He went down, and immediately got back up and starting running again. Off I went, and then he started running in a circle, and after another 10 minutes, finally dropped. He was still breathing when I got there. Come to discover it was a darn good shot. Through lung, chest, part of the stomach, and blew out his left hip. We discoved this while we were cleaning it. They can take a lot of punishment. That is why they just keep increasing. I would never hunt with a pack of Catch Dogs. I could not stand to see how cut up they get. I have a friend that is an MD in Argentina who does it. He raises his own, and is a breeder, probably the best in South America. He will lose one Dog on each major hunt, and the others he is stitching up and giving IV's and fluids in the field. Then hunt on horseback, and do use the knife. For them, it is not a hobby, but a way of life. |

When I get home this evening I'll post some pics from one of the game cameras we have out before deer season. There are some huge hogs on there. I love to listen to them come in from the brush, I like the squeeky little noises and I love that they are so multi-colored and pretty to look at, especially the babies. |

Oh my, ya never know what you are going to see on Yorkie Talk. Just saw this thread and read most of it.... interesting. I had no idea of the over population of hogs in Texas and the damage they do. We should send some troops of Hawaiian boys over there; wild pig hunting is a popular sport here, but there aren't so many of them. They cook them in an imu pit, buried in the ground wrapped in banana leaves, and then have Kalua Pork, a favorite local and luau food. So how does the taste of wild hog differ from pork we get at the grocery store? I assume it is not as fatty, and probably not as juicy tender?? |

We could feed the state because as long as I have ammo and targets, I am good for a long time |

Oooh, I've heard about those wild pigs in Texas..weren't they mixed with a wild bore or something....they are a huge problem from what I know of them. I've also heard they can weigh 500 lbs or more. |
You are right! They are Wild Bore. Isn't that right Steve? I bet they Bite Hard. |

I am the wild "Bore". The Hogs are wild Boar. :D They can rip you up good with their sharp tusks and cutters. They even kick. |

The key is shot placement, and even then, these guys just get up and shake it off. |

And I would respond, but I am following in your footsteps and working on tact. :D |
