LOVE FISHING!!!!! Have not gone yet this year but will soon!!

I saw your picture of the hog on the ground -- holy HUGEness! :eek: Thank you for sharing the back story of the big creatures -- very interesting.

I have never hunted wild hogs, but I was chased by one when I was a kid, does that count? I was the hunted not the hunter. We were camping in the Ocala National Forest in Central Florida and was hiking with my dad we heard rustling and he told me to RUN so I did. Apparently we disturbed a mommy teaching her little pigletts to forage.

How scary. Now isn't Georgia where they claim to have the seen Hogzilla? I think around Savannah.

Now Steve, You need to contact the Beverly Hills Animal Control. The City is having a real problem with Coyotes hanging out at the Country Club and prying on pets during the dusk and early morning hours. I really do believe they can use your services.
Unce Carlo is done with Chemo, I will pack up the truck and drive on out there! Carlo is also good at cleaning up Coyotes! Maybe we will use the team approach.

I am a lifetime NRA member! Got to go get the big guy now! He is doing great.

Steve, we could really use you and Carlo's hunting services when you are through in Califorina. I see Coyotes crossing my pasture almost every morning. Fortunately we have a pasture close to the house for the miniature horses and the Coyotes don't bother with the Quarters. The Coyotes killed one of my neighbors dogs recently, so we are on the warpath against them. I understand that the state of Georgia is offering a bounty on them - I don't know that I agree with that, but the problem is getting out of hand.

We have a very bad problem with hogs in our area. I know this is going to sound bad but if you knew how bad the problem was you would understand. We have lots of cows and horses on our land. The hogs dig holes in our pastures then the cows and horses break there legs. We now have out traps. We trap and kill them on the spot. We have killed 60 in a month. Its sad when we get a whole litter in a trap and have to kill them all but if we dont they grow and have more. I just wish there was more we could do with the meat. At this point we just kill them and bury them. East Texas is looking into a birth control for them but it has problems. We have the teens come and do hog hunts and they will kill a few but never enough to solve the problem.

I'm with you on the bounty, people tend to get a little reckless when $ is on the line. Ethics need to be a big part of hunting to keep things safe for people and animals.

Scary hog story BTW! I've been really close to some wild hogs and would NEVER want to be chased.

We have coyotes here too, people that live out on Padre Island loose pets all the time, so sad :(

They reach sexual maturity within weeks of being born and reproduce so quickly. I have seen the damage you are talking about, they cause $$$$$ in property repair and vet bills for injured cattle. This year has been a wet one here and we are seeing so many already.

This thread is very interesting to me. I live on Cape Cod so I would know nothing about wild hogs! I have friends in Maine that get Moose every year, they apply for a permit and get to take one per permit I think. We do have coyotes....which scare the XXXX out of me! We also this year have shark patrol boats because they have already spotted them to close to shore. I guess I am pretty lucky compared to some of you.

I am 100% country girl. As a teenager I used to hunt rabbits. I only went deer hunting once and I did not shoot anything. Now that I am older and wiser I have no desire to shoot a deer but I would have no problem eating venison, rabbit or squirrel. I like alligator too but I have not had any in a long time. When I lived in Spring, Texas, I used to always get fried alligator at the annual Crawfish Festival. I have had wild hog one time and it was just okay. I love fishing, preferably saltwater. I have not been fishing in years but I hope that changes next year.

I know that people eat squirrel, but what is on it that you could eat? Would you have to like catch 30 of them to make a meal? :confused:

I have only had squirrel once and that was many many years ago. I am not sure how much meat is on one but some of the squirrels in Texas can get pretty big. We live out in the country and we have deer and all kinds of other animals around us but I would never shoot one.

Dove and quail hunting is big in Texas too and there sure isn't much meat on them.

Agree, and I just wonder is he too old to learn how to become a catch Dog? Maybe I will get an Argentine Dogo Pup from a friend I have in Argentina. THey are naturals at it.

Totally understand what you are saying, and it is happening more and more. I did not believe it until I saw the damage that they can do, and how they root up. You ever eat one under 100 pounds? I still don't care for the taste, but many people do. Here at our Local Cabella's, they sell Hog Meat for $16 a pound. Maybe I should rent a refidgerated truck!

The hardest to hunt is Texas Wild Turkeys. They are smart, have a great sense of smell, and tough. If only I could get Marge to move to Texas.....or even AZ. No, instead she loves living in the most corrupt state of the union, where only the thugs and thieves are allowed to carry.

Lol, I know what you mean. I would not be able to handle the cold weather where you live. I am a warm weather person.

Nope not a hog hunter but I am an avid hog eater! I wouldn't kill an animal to eat it but I'll eat it if it's dead already! My dad had cattle he raised to eat but i could not eat them myself because i knew them personaly:(! My feeling is that if you eat/use what you hunt ok, but if you just kill it to hang it's head on the wall that is not cool. Just my opinion tho! Myself, i would feel guilty killing an animal as i feel guilt ridden when i kill a spider! I try to shoo them out but if they won't go...well splat!!! :eek:

I agree. I went on an Elk Hunt once out West. I just could not bring myself to shoot, especially since I knew I could not get him out as we were in the high country, and no way my wife would let me put a head on the wall. I only do hogs, and only because there are millions of them and they are destroying the land. Also could not do an exotic, just to say that I took down a Rhino or a Lion. Turkey, Pigeons, and Hogs. Anyone know of anyone that took a Hog with just a knife? A Bow is hard enough....a 30-06 or 308 is the best, with a 25-06 as a nice back-up. Many will just jump right back up after being hit, and start running. I have been shooting all my life, and refined it in the Corps. I was amazed the first time it happened to me.
