Any thoughts? So much pain! :( So I am going to call my doctor and try to get in for an appt today. But while I'm waiting I thought I'd ask you guys/girls! Yesterday afternoon I started feeling really yucky. I started getting heartburn and abdominal pains. I made it through work, went home and it goes worse. I took 3 tums and laid down and ended up not getting up all night. I was in so much pain and I didn't eat anything since noon yesterday. However I had 2 string cheese sticks yesterday. I suspect that I'm mildly lactose intolerant but never had a problem with the string cheese, although I never ate 2 in one day. I felt like I was going to throw up pretty much all afternoon and evening yesterday too. I was getting the chills (goosebumps) with every flash of 'pain' in my stomache. I am also suspecting that I might have a UTI. So I fell asleep around 830pm on the couch and around 1015pm I got up and went to bed, still in severe pain. Oh yeah, took 3 more tums. I fell asleep and slept through the night, but did get up 3x during the night. This morning though, my abdomen is very tender, almost like I did 3,000 crunches and I'm still in pain. No more heartburn but I haven't eaten until a 1/2 a banana 10 mins ago. I never go to the doctors but I think that with this pain STILL here I should go. Anyone lactose intolerant and get symptoms like this? Any advice? |
I am sorry you are in so much pain. Definitely get to the doctor. I wouldn't have any idea what you are going through, but it kind of sounds like a gall bladder attack, but I really don't know. Keep us updated......and hope you get to feeling better soon. |
Hello, You should definitely go to the doctor. I have IBS and diverticulosis. I didnt read where the pain in your abdomen is? When I have a bout of diverticulitis, it starts in the lower left hand abdomen. A very tender area and then radiates to the entire stomach. THe pain is excruciating. YOu can barely get out of bed. You chill and many times have a fever. It can be a dangerous condition because your colon is full of infection and can rupture leading to sepsis. I dont know if thats what you have but it sounds pretty sure you have an infection and it needs taken care of. |
Definately go to the doctor. I don't have any other suggestion or idea, but I'm sending a "get well quicker" |
Lactose Intolerance will cause you to feel bloated, gassy, stomach pain, but not intense. I doubt that is what you are experiencing. You should get to the MD today if you are still not feeling well in the abdominal area. Dr Steve, your Internet MD |

I do hope you will be feeling better soon! |

I agree w/ Dr. Steve, your Internet MD. Abdominal pain can signify something quite serious. Please call your primary doc. This could be appendicitis, pancreatitis, gall bladder, or something else. If you can, take your temp before you call so you can provide that info. I hope you feel better and please keep us posted :). |

I had gallstones and it sounds a lot like my symptoms. One of my co-workers has bouts with diverticulitus and it could be that also. I would see a Dr for sure. It could be any number of things, pain that severe shouldn't be ignored. Sending get well wishes to you. |
I have an appt at 1030 to see my PCP. All I told them was I had severe abdominal pain. I have taken tums and rolaids and have had only slight relief. My boss thinks maybe an ulcer. |
Could be an ulcer in the bowel or stomach, abcess, infection, or a hot Gallbladder. Forget the rolaids and tums until you see the MD. I have ruled out Vasculitis and Encelpalitis. |
I"m sorry your feeling so sick. It could be several things, from bad food to ulcer or gallbladder. Maybe the string cheese was bad! Seeing the doctor is the best thing. You could drive yourself nut's trying to figure this out. Let us know what the doc say's. Good luck, hope it's something that can be fixed with meds. |
I'm lactose intolerant and I get severe stomach cramps, and the most horrible case of the runs(sorry). If it really gets bad like I drink of chocolate milk I'm in agony. |
Take on Lactaid Capsule with your first bite of Dairy. It works. |
Ok I'm back. My doctor did blood work and urine test, also is sending me for an ultrasound on thursday to make sure its not the gallbladder. However, she is already pretty sure it's not. She believe its the minocycline I take daily for my skin. Its causing esophagial burn (sp?) and it will get worse if I don't get off of it. Now I have to call my dermo to talk about options for my skin! aaarrrggggg this was working so well too! I am on prilosec for 14 days once a day, not supposed to have coffee! :( I can't go w/o coffee that long. WWAAHH!!! LOL But the pain should go away in a few days, yeah... ouch ... and no more minocycline. |
Glad you went to the doc and they are working on a solution. NO coffee? UGH! .........can you have decaf? If u can at least you can fake its the REAL STUFF. I love coffee too. Get feeling better and rest.:) |
Well, at least it is not life threatening. Guess you got some good and a little bad. I am sure the Derm will come up with an alternate treatment. A lot of drugs will cause Esophagus burn. Best of luck. |

There should be some other options for your skin. Are you going to get rebound headaches w/out the coffee? Those can get bad. There are caffeine substitutes you could try to help wean you off the caffeine, but you'd have to be sure they were easy on your tummy. |

I was thinking of doing 1/2 caf coffee at least. Yeah Id probably get headaches... plus I don't trust myself to drive to work in the morning w/o coffee! LOL so at least cutting back the caffeine for 2 weeks would be a good compromise. I just really hope the pain goes away or gets better soon. I'm eating chewy rolaids today to try to help coat my system until the prilosec kicks in! Thanks all! |
Makes total sense. Minocycline can cause a burned esophagus! Glad he has pinpointed in! Sucks to be in any kind of pain...after having 15 years of chronic pain for a specific condition I have unfortunately become an expert in how bad it sucks! Hope you get to feeling better really soon! Get some rest! :-) |
I am sure your demotologist will be able to find something else for your skin. Important thing is no surgery involved. Hope the meds get rid of the pain for you soon. How about decaf? Or 1/2 coffee 1/2 decaf then smaller amouts of real coffee etc until all decaf. Otherwise headaches are sure to happen, that caffine withdrawl is a real pain in the butt. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope the gall bladde is ok. |
Thanks Ladies! Yes, I need to do something about coffee right about now actually.... I am falling asleep, just sooo tired, I did not sleep at all last night with the pain and today is a real struggle. Today is my long day too, with school tonight straight from work until 9pm. UGH! I have my ultrasound on thurs at 7am so i'll keep yas posted. No surgery I hope! Thanks all for thinking of me! Now if you can think of a way to keep me awake I'd much appreciate it! LOL |

I hope you get to feeling better soon! Your pain isn't like what I experienced with my gall bladder, but it's always best to rule it out! Please keep us posted!! |
Chronic pain...BOO!!! Quote:
No. I have a condition called endometriosis. It is a disease that wreaks havoc on your pelvic area and internal organs (not to get to graphic here so that's about as specific as I will get!) it acts as a silly putty and just wounds itself around organs where it doesn't belong. I have had 15 surgeries for it and been on every pain medicine under the sun. There is no treatment for it although pregnancy helps (if you can get pregnant) because the hormones are it's "food" and during pregnancy all of those hormones go to the baby. I have it so severe that I was told I would never have kids. But 2 rounds of IVF and 4 miscarriages later have 2 healthy miracle little girls! I decided about 4 years ago to try things that were more natural and at the very least non narcotic so I could be coherent enough to enjoy the kids I had worked so hard to get! At the end of may or early June I will be undergoing what we hope will be my last surgery and will be having a full hysterectomy at the age of 36. There are no guarantees because I've been in pain so long that my nerve endings could be so damaged that they will fire pain signals even if the problem is gone! But I am hopeful and just believing this will be the answer! Believe it or not I wouldn't change a thing about the last 15 years. Of course I wish I could be pain free but I have learned so much about life and pain makes me incredibly grateful and in touch with how blessed I am for the good days and the miracles along the way! I'm sorry that your mom has had such a rough time. I liken walking around in pain everyday to walking around with 100 extra pounds strapped to your back! The easiest things are hard and people don't understand unless they've walked it! I take neurontin too and it has helped! I hope you start feeling better and if there is anything I can do please let me know! Have a great evening! |
