Oh, back in the day (before Ticketmaster), we would hitch-hike to New Orleans to get tickets, then hitch back home. Then, usually we would get a ride somehow to the concert. I still have old ticket stubs from those days. The prices were so low then. I saw Zeppelin for $5, Pink Floyd for $7. Ten bucks was a night out for us. Then, in the 80's, we got into seeing shows in Houston. We'd rent a Caddie, drive over...get a room....make a weekend of it. I still go to concerts, but not as often. My last one was Yes back in '08

what? that's amazing! My moms first concert was Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath together! Did you ever see Pink Flowd?

But since you're talking about music... I was a totally 90's pop music chick girl. Backstreet Boys were my life, lol. My room was covered in posters, you couldn't even tell the color wall. I'll have to find old pics. I ended up becoming somewhat 'friends' with the BSB in 2008 and it was sooo strange after growing up with them. They are really cool great guys and I will hopefully be seeing them atleast once this year. But even though BSB was always my #1... all the pop stuff was what I listened to. I still listen to primarily pop. I've never been a rocker chick, or an emo, or anything. I went thru my "ghetto" stage in middle school where I was always wearing Echo and Timberland and stuff and listened to a bunch of rap. hahaha. Middle school was my bad time, I was always mouthing off to teachers and getting in trouble, and I got really bad grades and missed a ton of school.

But I was never a wild child! I think because my family has always been pretty wild, my uncles are still huge partyers, my whole family is! They like to have fun! And I love having a family that will stay up and party til 3am, but I think since it was so normal to me and I grew up like that, now me being almost 20 could care less. I've been in like every bar in my area atleast once and i'm not even 21 yet! I don't drink often, I've never even tried drugs, I tried to smoke a cigarette once and HATED it, same with cigar, I didn't even KNOW how to smoke it, lmao. Junior year of HS my little 5 year old brother died and kinda made my life turnaround for the worse and after that, I just didn't care about highschool stuff, I didn't even go to prom or anything. :( So unfortunately (or fortunately?) I won't have too many wild stories to tell my children someday...

Oh so sorry to hear about your brother :(

My family can still stay up until 5 or 6am partying when it's a "big" birthday.

I had a "ghetto" stage too in public school (grade 7) and it was the KRIS KROSS days! haha and before that... the New Kids on the Block! Grade 3 love! lol I had the posters, and the pictures, and the trading cards and the dolls and all their tapes! we use to make up dances to their songs...lol

Then it was pretty much grunge/punk until the raver days. I am still hardcore Pearl Jam fan, and I can never EVER give up my love for PUNK ROCK!!! but I've always loved dancing, always loved "beats" and that'll never change... I was that kid who was dancing around to everything, even if I was by myself! I'll dance all by myself to a song I really like! Madonna has been played in my house for as long as I remember!

But I had a wild streak since the minute I turned 13, and I was moms "angel" until she figured out the truth ;) To be honest, I'm a really good person who's had fun in life! and me and my moms are going to see Black Eye Peas together in the VIP section this July. I can't wait to dance and party with my moms.

My moms ran Pride in my hometown for years before giving it up because of lack of local support. Everyone wanted to party, but no one wanted to work! It was always their friends, my friends, and them. We had good times though! House music all the way!!

My husband is so anti-dancing and anti-beats of any kind, I wonder how we ever got together! LOL! It came down to our love for Pearl Jam, and wine. I'm sure of it.....haha He's my total opposite in so many ways, but I'd be afraid to marry someone like me. We'd never settled down!

:D:D Thank you :D

back in my day I was more into Isley Brothers and all the old school R&B - Earth Wind and Fire and Ohio Players were my FAV - they can put on a show - Michael Jackson was unreal on stage - I always loved him - still do

saw Bobby Brown and Luther many times - they were GREAT -
I've seen tons of concerts - but not in years now -

oh and Bruce Springstein for Rock - wow was he something else on stage - even tried an Elton John concert - that was pretty cool - he's so talented

saw Aerosmith and a few others when a kid -but I'm too far advanced these days with alzheimers to remember

Edited - since I want to clarify I'm NOT 120 years old -for RAP - The Ghetto Boys YES and Sugar Hill Gang - the first real 'rap' group ever - Curtis Blow (no laughing on his name !! I used to club with him) and would like to see Eminem - but I'd feel like an idiot there but do have his cd's that I made

red98vett 04-18-2010 04:29 AM

My iPod is soooo random. Honestly. I will listen to almost any kind of music. Like I said, the only stuff I was never big on was like punk music. I loved the alternative stuff from the 90's tho. Old R&B is my favorite. I have a few Marvin Gaye CD's. I love Earth Wind and Fire. I loooveee old Motown.

You are SO lucky to have seen Michael Jackson in concert. So lucky. I've been a fan of his since I was little and still am a huge one. Also Aerosmith. My dad saw him 2nd row a few years ago (I think 2001-ish) and said they were amazing! Elton John is absolutely amazing too.

People always make fun of me cuz I make myself mix CD's for the car drive and I'll go from a Frank Sinatra song to, like, Tupac. lol. old school rap is awesome!!! The crap today sucks. :( I listen to very little of it.

Even tho I'm only 19, I have a deep appreciation of good music!

Villette I am with you on this!! What are Candy days???? Back in the late 60's yes I said 60's we would hitchhike to the Kinetic playground and see top groups for 5 bucks!! Led Zeplin, The Animals, Buffalo Springfield and many more. I try and keep up on all types of music but totally missed what you guys are talking about!!! Sounded fun!!

Woogie Man 04-18-2010 06:27 AM

Patti, you must be a little older than me. My first concert was in '72....Black Oak Arkansas w/ Captain Beyond opening. I lied to my Mom and said we were going to the island for the weekend. Instead, we hitched to New Orleans for the show. We got home about sunrise and sat on the beach...cooling our feet in the water while watching the sun come up.

The ticket prices were ridiculously low then. I once saw Jethro Tull at Audubon Zoo for $3.50. The most I've spent for a ticket was $95 to see the Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour. They were good but not worth that kind of money. I once drug my wife to see Tom Jones and had a blast. She really didn't want to go but now she loves him. Overall, the early 70's shows were the most mind-blowing.

I got into a few of the 90's bands...like Soundgarden, Collective Soul, Pearl Jam and The Black Crowes. My new band I'm into is Them Crooked Vultures. I also am getting into Conor Oberst. There is some good new stuff if you can wade through the crap being put out.

I also really like the old blues music with John Lee Hooker being my favorite...hands down. His 'Face To Face' and 'The Best of Friends' are some of his best stuff ever and were recorded when he was hitting 80. Also, his 'The Hot Spot' w/ Miles Davis is incredible.

I saw Zeppelin for the first time in '73. Those were the general admission days and we were right up front....amazing show!! Black Sabbath I didn't catch until their reunion tour in '99 but I had seen Ozzy before that.

I saw Pink Floyd in '74?...anyway, it was the 'Animals' tour. They came on and did the whole 'Animals' album, then they played the entire 'Wish You Were Here' album. They came back and did 'Money' for an encore and that was the show.

I used to sneak my camera into a few shows. I would strap the camera body and big ole zoom lens under my clothes and used a 1500 asa film so I didn't need a flash. I have some great pictures of Peter Gabriel and some really cool ones of Jimmy Page w/ The Firm. My best concert photos are of Stevie Ray Vaughan, taken during a Mardi Gras concert on a riverboat. It was televised by MTV and we hung out with the crew and had the best spot for watching the show and snapping pics. Somehow the pics turned out great. That was a small miracle, given the 'circumstances' :D. I took some pics at a Who show and those pics are memorable only for their awfulness.

'That I can remember' might be the operative phrase LOL. I remember Dr. Hook....."Sylvia's mother says...take your umbrella, 'cause Sylvia it's staring to rain". They also did a whacky song called 'Freaker's Ball' and, of course, 'Cover of the Rolling Stone'.

livingdustmops 04-18-2010 09:18 AM

Oh man I hate these threads.. Either I am to old because I don't know who and the heck some of these groups are...or I do know the old ones...

My first concert was the Beatles...

I would probably know...at least heard of them. My favorites that are still alive and working are Buddy Guy and Robert Cray. Koko Taylor is one of my favorite blues singers and who could forget Tina Turner, way back with Ike.

I like the funky soul groups, too, especially The Temptations, Four Tops and Sly Stone.
