baxtersmommy: my husband and i recently got a new home which happens to be surrounded by his family members. the other day my kids were playing outside and my son who is 3.5 yelled, "puppy!" i saw a pit bull and some other large dog (not sure the breed) running toward my son from across the street at my husband's aunt's house. i yelled my son's name very loud and firmly to tell him to STOP where he was. the pit was growling while running toward him. the pit did stop in his tracks and started barking. i think he had actually seen another dog in the distance and was running/growling in that direction. my husband's aunt seemed dumbfounded by the way i freaked out. we don't know each other well at all so it was awkward. she assured me that he wouldn't hurt my son, but still - i don't want my kids thinking they can pet any dog they see. i've always been that way regardless of the dog's size. his aunt came over today to talk while i was outside and i explained to her why i reacted that way. seeing this post reassures me that i was not overreacting. you can never be too careful. |

I can't even imagine having a child attacked and injured like this. |
i don't think anyone has been insensitive to her situation. clearly, everyone has offered their blessings. simply discussing dog attacks in a thread about a child getting attacked by a dog is not being insensitive to the situation. |
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers! I am soo sorry! keep us posted on his recovery!! |
Dear Loveshay Obviously this is a very emotional thread. We are all caring and sensitive people who love animals and kids and even grown ups (most of the time), and can all too easily imagine the horror or your position. As a mom and an animal fanatic, I can only speak for myself, that my first thoughts are of your troubles. Ignore the breed debate ( and yes, I put my vote in for bullys), it's just emotions and protective instinct coming out because we are such caring people. These horible things that happen in life sometimes make no sense, so there is no sense in looking for someone to blame at this time. This is the time for support, and I am sure that you have all of ours. God be with you and your family in your time of need. |
I so agree with youl. I posted on page 1 about pitbulls - and was told I was wrong - in my opinion I am not wrong! |
Keeping your son, Armani, and both you and your husband in our thoughts and prayers. |
