Census... Who got it? :p I find it funny that for the purpose of the census anything Latino isn't a "race." So I have no idea what to put! I joked around and my family has come to a conclusion. We're checking that yes, we're latino (Mexican American) but for race, I'm going to be Russian, my lil bro is Philipino, my big bro I decided will be native american, my mom and dad will be "chichareņo." :D They wanted to be "other" All joking aside, I have no idea what to put for question 6. |
you could always say PROUD American |
That's true. I could say that! |

LOL I happen to work for the U. S. Census Department. |
We sent ours back in today. It must have been easy for us cause hubby filled it out without any help from me. |

So what race are you, I thought it covered them all. |
For people who identify their race as Latino, Hispanic, Spanish or something else may include that in the write-in option. Hope that helps |

i dont know where i put mine |
Am I the only one who's wondering why they're pushing this census thing so hard this year? It's kinda creeping me out. I don't mind telling them how many people live in my house and their ages, but why do they need my name and especially my race? What does it matter what race we are? I kinda don't wanna send mine back... lol |

I am an American Citizen, PERIOD. I think that preserving one's heritage and the unique CULTURE that is associated with that heritage is very very important, however I don't think it should be mandated that I share my ethnic background. Heck, I am a "mutt" -- no telling what's there. :D On an even more annoying and Taxpayer $$ wastful note, last year a person came to my house banging on my door claiming to be with the US Census Burea. This person has absolutely no identification BUT did have "official census brochures". Why am I paying for someone to come to my home harrassing me about something that is going to happen 6 months in the future? |
What gets me is they mail out a letter saying we getting it! What a a WASTE of paper and money! |

Mine just wanted name, age, race of everyone in the household. I filled it out and sent it back that day. Really didn't think much about it being any kind of moral issue..just sent it back. So they want me to report what race I am, big deal! I've never really understood the point behind a census, and all the "reasons" they have been advertising are BS, but whatever. |

A lot of people had a hard time with the term, "Negro" in the census. That word has not been used in decades and has a negative conotation. What were they thinking?:( |

 Latino is not white, what was that person thinking. I suppose Native Americans aren't a race either since he says there are only three :( IMO the Census is actually becoming silly when it comes to race in America because so many of us are mixed. I do understand the data for understanding the need for diversity and documenting history, but it's getting pretty confusing. I checked the other box and wrote in Creole because both my parents were Creole, because both sets of their parents considered themselves Creole and were also so mixed that you couldn't tell what they were...especially with their accents and English being their second language. I could have checked "Other" and wrote in ... a French, Native American, African, Spanish, Black dutch (German) mix...aka American human :) |

I agree we're all so mixed that we don't know what we are. For example, I know I have both indigenous and Spanish blood mixed in my family. How do I know? First, my last name is Nieto, definitely not indigenous so it had to come from somewhere. My older brother has very light skin, and lighter brown eyes (I swear there is a hint of green!) yet my younger brother and I are very brown, or tan with dark brown eyes and dark hair. Kids in highschool went as far as thinking my older brother and I were dating! YUCK!!!! We look so different yet we have the same parents. I can definitely tell we're mixed! |
