Bare Escentuals Makeup Ok I know we talked about this a couple years ago. I had purchased a set and never got around to using it. I am starting to feel a bit blah so I decided to give it a shot. (I had returned the set the last time because I wasn't sure). Anyhow I was feeling blah and my SIL was feeling a bit down. So we went to the mall and we had a makeup session at the Bare Escentuals store, then a nice dinner. So I spent to the tune of almost $400..he he. I treated my SIL and myself to an end of semester--good work splurge (thank god for tax money). So before I start up I want to hear any more reviews on the stuff before I crack open up the packages. Come on BE wearers give me your opinions. Do you still love it? Are you still wearing it? Or have you switched to another makeup? |
I bought the starter kit and I do like the foundation, but I've actually switched to Pur minerals and it's mainly because I don't like the mess of the loose powder. I do not like Bare Escentuals eye make-up or blush. I know so many people love and swear by it! |
Have used it for years. It is the only face makeup I use. I only use the face colors. I use the eyeshadows, lip colors and moisturizers of my choice. I've got my daughter and DIL using it. Everyone I know that uses it loves it. You cannot go wrong. I use an oil free moisturizer under it. Use it sparingly, it lasts a long time. Enjoy!!! |
Sorry sweets. I'm a clinque girl through and through. Congrats on making it through another semester!! |

I'm so excited you started this thread! I am trying to decide between this and the Clinique mineral makeup that just came out. I might give that one a try bc I won't have to invest in all the brushes and components of the Bare Minerals. I have been a Bobbi Brown junkie for the past 10 years but my skin is just BLAH and SO dry this winter. I need a change. I heard so many great things about Bare Minerals but I will post if I try either one. I'm curious to hear other comments too. Clinique vs bare minerals? - Yahoo! Answers NEW Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 > Foundations > Makeup > Clinique |
Funny this is our subject and the top banner was for QVC's Bare Escentuals ad. :D |
I've used Bare Minerals for about 12 years and I absolutely love it. I use foundation, warmth, and sometimes eye color (I don't wear much makeup). My 13 year old g-daughter, 33 year old daughter, and 87 year old mom all use it with fabulous results!!! I think warmth is the key for me. I put on the foundation, then cover with warmth and I think it looks just beautiful! Once a flight attendant leaned over and whispered in my ear, "You have beautiful skin". Thing is, I do NOT have beautiful skin - it is blotchy with brown patches on my cheeks, but with a swipe of the brush, the imperfections seem to disappear! Again though, I think warmth makes everything POP! |

What about makeup remover. What is best for removing the BE makeup? I know they sell stuff but I am sure there is equally good stuff that is cheaper. |
I love BE! I've been using it for a couple years and I use all BE now. Eyeliner, mascara, all face and eye makeup, even my lotion is BE. Works great for me!!! |

Pur Minerals is in a compact form and it's just a lot less mess! That's the main reason. I think Bare escentuals is probably a little better, but honestly I just can't stand dealing with the loose powder. It's just a personal preference! |
I use the BM every day and have for about 2 years nows. I love it! It's very natural looking as well as natural feeling. I tend to go to bed sometimes without washing my face and one of the BM selling points is that it's so natural you can sleep in it. It has actually improved my skin. My little sister, 19, has always had very sensitive skin prone to breakouts and since she's been using this, it's cleared up ALOT! I say definitely try it.... I also use the eye shadows and LOVE them. I'd say the only downfall is price of brushes. If you buy the starter kit, then you have everything you need at first. But eventually, brushes need to be replaced and can get quite costly. They actually make a brush shampoo though and this is what I've been using to clean my brushes. Also I've found that a great makeup remover is Neutrogena makeup removing cloths. I use them everyday. In my area they cost about $6 for 25 cloths. |
That's me too. I use only the face colors and the warmth. The warmth does make all the difference. My DIL tried using the BE moisturizer and it made her break out. She has very sensitive skin and problem with the red blotchies (I can't remember the name of that syndrome right off hand), so she also uses her own moisturizer, but loves the BE for make up. I rarely use the mineral veil for finishing. Just the color and warmth. I like my own shadows etc... You're right, the powder can be a bit messy, but I remember some hellacious liquid makeup spills back in the day...LOL I don't worry about removing it with anything special. Just regular apricot scrub or whatever you wash your face with, and just like the commercial, it doesn't hurt to sleep with it on. Also, since I only use the two products, I only use two brushes. (sometimes I get lazy and just use the one) so, minimal cleaning....less than trying to keep a compact pad clean. |
I tried B.E. - and I don't know...maybe it only works for certain people? I didn't like it much - plus, some of it was wayyyy too "sparkly" or shimmery - and I don't really want that. I LOVE love love (and have used for about 15 years maybe?) Aveda's Dual Foundation Powder. But that probably doesn't work for everyone either, lol :D. |
I love BM. I have been using it for around 5 years now. The main products I use are the foundation, warmth, skin revver upper, the kabuki brush, max concealer brush, and semi coverage brush (I think that's what its called)...I don't use the mineral veil cause I always seemed to get hot flashes from it (???) but I do love it and I have gotten a lot of compliments when using the make up. I have not tried their eyeshadows or other make up so I can not vouch for those. |
I use it and love it. I am now using the Matte Bare Minerals foundation and really like it. I also have two sets of two in one blushes, as well as warmth and several mineral veils. On a daily basis I use the foundation and the blush. With the matte, you do not need the mineral veils. I have tried the eye products and do not like them as much (i think that you can get an equal or better product for less money). |
I like BE but My all time favorite is mac makeup. BE has too many shimmers in it for me as I get older (49) I try to stay away from the shimmers and glimmers. I do like their matte colors and the pearl powders. I also like smashbox. I love new makeup it perks me up!! :D |
I have been using BE for at least 5or 6 years now and still love it. I went crazy when I first started out and spent a lot of $$ but I am still using alot of the product as it doesn't go bad. I also discovered it n QVC and bought some from there. :D I have roseaca (sp) and it definitely helps with that and I also have some other issues that it covers up as well. I use oil of olay, sensitive skin moisturizer and aveeno face wash. To take off my eyeliner, I either use vaseline or my eucerine cream. I try to do this every night as it tends to be hard to wash off. I was actually thinking of trying to sell some of my eye shadows as I bought so many that I will probably never use, I tend to use the same colors over and over, lol. In the summer when we boat, and go out to dinner, all I use is the foundation, summer bisque and mineral veil and eye brow stuff--I have to use this since I don't have much eyebrow. The best compliment was when I first started using it, hubby said to me unsolicited, "whatever you are doing, it looks great!" :) |
Good for you girlfriend!!!! :) I wear BE, I am not sure if I am going to stick with it though. Right now I am on meds for mild to moderate cystic acne and I did not want to wear any liquid foundation on my face. My dermo said mineral powder is good and provides good coverage. So I got some BE. I don't know if this is my makeup or my medicated skin cream, but I find that it makes my face shiney shiney by the end of the work day. I can feel the oil on my face and see the shine. I always need to reapply it if I don't go straight home from work. I hate reapplying without washing and redoing my whole makeup. I just have such sensative skin that I only want 1 layer of makeup on. With that said..... I have NEVER found a foundation or powder that does not get shiny, oily or wear off by the end of the work day. I did try Physicians Formula mineral powder and for a fraction of the cost (buy at walmart or any pharmacy), it works pretty much just as well. With both of these products I would say you need a daily moisturizer, using just powder (no foundation) on dry skin will make all powder look flakey and cakey. |
hahahaha anyone notice the banner ad on the top of the page of this thread is for BE?? LOL |

I went to NM last year to this poshy fun spa like medical spa for skin care. I had a facial and my mom did too. At the end of the facial they do your makeup for free. Well they boasted a famous makeup guy from Chanel. His name is Conrad Sanchez. He was there, he did my moms facial and BOTH of our makeups. Here is a pic of him with the Chanel team - he is retired from that now. NMUA Home Anyways, I talked to him about Clinique and he said it was a spin off of Este Lauder I believe, it was meant to target younger audiences, so while mom shopped for her makeup, her daughter would have the clinique counter to shop from. He told me that once a woman hits over 30 it's time to graduate from Clinique face makeup. It does nothing to keep skin YOUNGER looking. He said it's good for younger girls with good skin, but for older women, (over 30) and girls (any age) with problem skin, clinique is not really the best product for them. He HIGHLY recommended mineral makeup like BE and so did my dermo. I used to live by Clinique for years... I still swear thier mascara is the best out there. Ive been told to try Dior, but for $22 a tube.. I am really happy with clinique's mascara and their eyeshadows and their eyeliner (LOVE IT). As for facial cleaners, my dermo recommended Olay wash clothes and OLAY moisturizer (not Oil of Olay... just Olay... same company). I use it and my face is clearing up by the day. |
hmmmm, have you tried maybe applying mineral veil before foundation? Mineral veil is supposed to keep the shiny down (?) I know what you mean about reapplying without washing your face. That's why I don't use a whole lot in the summertime, I just get to yuky feeling after being out on the boat all day and getting ready for dinner, I just don't want to be bothere with putting a whole lotta stuff on. :) But see if putting MV on first might help with keeping the oiliness down. Good luck. :) |

You can brush on as much or as little as you want...and then there is a clear gel that you use to "set" the powder. It's in the form of a mascara tube and wand. Great stuff. There is a kit with all 3 elements and then after that you can buy the individual items as you run out. I've bought the gel a couple of times and stocked up because it used to always be sold out other than in the kit. I was seeing a dermotologist for a while and I told him that I woud go out without my makeup, but not my eyebrows, lol It has been so long since I've actually gone to the store that the last time I went, they didn't even carry a product that my sister had gotten for me as a gift last year. I really stocked up when I started out...I had to drive a little over 2 hours to the nearest store so I made it worth my while whenever I went.;):D |
I love it all |
Rosacea... that's it! That is what my DIL has. BE has really helped it. Warmth and the foundations I use don't have any glittery, glimmery shine to them. The eyeshadows and a lot of the blushes sure do... I don't use any of those. I love the colorlast line and get that at walmart. |
I was reading some stuff online and there was a derm that is not associated with it that said that the minerals is much better for people that get any acne since it doesn't clog the pores like other makeups. He said there are many out on the market so while he recommends mineral make up he is not saying the only one you have to use is BE. I am so excited. I am going to stick to my oil of olay for moisturizer and need something good to take off. I actually slept that night of the makeover with the makeup on to see how it went. I swear I think the makeup looked even better the next day. I did find that even though I was using cetaphil to wash my face it was a bit harder getting the eyeshadow off. I can see with the tiny amount you need to use that it will last forever and a day. The pricing is a bit pricey but with the small amount you need and the fact that I won't be using the whole kit and kaboodle every single day I think that it will last a long time. I am checking on ebay for nice brush sets that are not necessarily theirs. Their brushes are a bit pricey if you ask me. |
