Dental work Yesterday I bit into an Animal Cracker and my whole back molar broke in 2 pieces. I went to the dentist for an emergency visit and he said it has to come out, it can't be saved, it's broken completely and also a complete cavity. :( I am sooo bummed and upset with myself. I should have gone to the dentist but I haven't been in SOOO long. I have 2 more cavities on my right hand side that need fillings and they still have to look at my left side. I have to get the broken tooth extracted tomorrow and a bone graft started so I can set my jaw up for an implant in the future. I'm going to have NO tooth there for over a year. :( This is such horrible news. Not to mention I have no dental insurance. The visit and xrays yesterday was $130.... not horrible, but tomorrow the bone graft and extraction tomorrow could be about $800. YIKES! :( I applied and got approved for care credit yesterday which is 1 year financing at 0% interest. I hope to pay this off pretty quickly and then next Jan when I get insurance back get the post and then next summer I'll be able to get the implant. But YIKES! I cannot believe I'm losing a tooth, my tooth! How horrible is that!?!? |

That does not sound like any fun. I am sorry. Just like everything else dental work is so expensive. I have a small fortune wrapped up in my own teeth so I know what you are going through. It stinks. Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I have a bottom crown that wore off and is bothering me. Can you believe they want to grind on the top tooth above to fix my bottom?:eek: I am going for a second opinion on that one.:D Makes no sense to me. Keeping you in my thoughts! |
I am trying to decide if I want to get gas or not tomorrow. I am the BIGGEST baby ever and I'm sooooo scared of the pain. I don't want to feel it, but I cannot afford to be put under either. I think with Nitris gas and Novacaine I won't feel anything but I'll be aware of whats going on. I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out at the same time with this method and it did not hurt I just knew what was going on the whole time. That took a couple hours. This one should only take a 1/2 hour. What do you guys think? How bad is the pain when they pull a tooth and do a bone graft? |
Pulling a tooth under the novacaine is easy peasy. Not sure about the bone graft. When I had my oral surgery for my impacted wisdom teeth I only had the novacaine. I try to limit my exposure to drugs. I just close my eyes..I hate seeing the needle coming. UGGG gives me the willies. |
Thats why I'm thinking I'm going to get the gas too... so that I don't see the needles coming! LOL Thats probably the part I'd freak out on! LOL |
OOOOOOOOOOOH Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhhhhhh get the gas!:D:D:rolleyes: |
Save the money and just close your eyes...lol. I contemplated laughing gas but I can't see laughing my behind off when the man is trying to work on my mouth. |
Sorry you have to go through this, Novocain works pretty good, and many dentists are now good at giving the shots, since the procedure is only for 1/2 hour, I would be tempted to go without the gas, for a two hour procedure, I would use the gas. I'm a big baby too, but most of it is from anxiety from past pain not actual present day pain. Good luck, and by the way, I think the price you were quoted is great! |
You think the price is great? $800 to get a tooth pulled and a graft done? Wow, that makes me feel better! The post and the implant next year will cost about $3,500 with insurance next year covering about 1/2 of it. Crazy expensive. Today I'm having such a hard time with this tooth. It does not hurt but it is broken in 1/2 and I cannot chew on that side of my mouth, it's driving me crazy and my tounge keeps looking for it! LOL It feels soooo weird to know my tooth is rotted and still in my mouth. It kind of grosses me out to know that. Part of me can't wait to get it out tomorrow, part of me is soooo nervous! |

I don't have insurance right now. I am paying out of pocket for the procedure tomorrow, the fillings I need this year for sure and a cleaning, but next year I'll have insurance and thats when I'll get the implant (post) and tooth. i can't believe I have to go a year without a tooth, more than a year! Its going to feel sooo weird! |

Hi! I'm out, it's done. The tooth is gone. It was horrible. They ended up putting me under. My blood pressure was through the roof and the dentist came in and told me that she had to break the tooth apart in smaller pieces to get it out and that after looking at the xrays, she was pretty sure that Novacaine was not going to numb the area, it would not work because the tooth was in 2 pieces and the pulp was already exposed to air. I don't know what that means but I said I'd go under and I'm glad I did. It added another $300 to the bill, but at least I don't remember or anything. It took 45 mins when it should have only taken 15 mins so it was a mess. I came home and slept and was supposed to take Vicoden but didn't. They told BF that by the time we got home the Novacaine would wear off and I would need something. But I was tired and went to bed instead. Woke up 1.5 hours later in EXTREME pain. I had to try to eat something and drink something to take the Vicoden... OMG.. I was in tears! I just slept the rest of the day away. I hope I never have to go through this again. Whoever said having a tooth pulled was easy is a lucky person! I am pulling bloody gauze from my mouth every couple hours, that alone is horrifiying enough! |

Oh that sounds so horrible, when I said that tooth pulling was easy I meant on the dentist. Lots of dentists charge less then $50.00 to pull a tooth. I'm glad it's over with, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that, I always think science has improved so much since I was young, but when I hear of something like this, it just scares me to death. Hope you feel better soon! |
