My husband just heimlich my son My 11 year old son was in the kitchen making himself a peanut and butter sandwich. He took out the tub with the sliced pepperoni and put one in his mouth while he was making his sandwich. All of a sudden I hear him choking in the kitchen and of course panicked. My husband jumped up and grabbed him and did the heimlich maneuver and the pepperoni came out. Meanwhile I was going to the phone t call 911 I was in a panic and I'm still shaking. |
OMG how scary!!!!!!!! Thank GOD your husband was able to do that - and good for you for being on the ball to think to call 911 - some people get so worked up when things like that happen that they can't even think clearly enough to do that ("what's the number for 911?" kinda stuff). Is your son OK? How scary for him. for all of you. I'm certified in cpr/heimlich/rescue breathing, but I hope to God I never have to use it!! |
I have 4 children 20,28,25,11 and never ever had to do that. I am still shaking. I was caling 911 because I didn't want to wait until my husband couldn't dislodge it. I figured I would rather have them here and tell them he is ok than wait until it might be too late. I was petrified and the babies were going nuts. My 15 year old gathered them up and put them in her room. Thank the good Lord he is fine now and playing x-box but this will take a while for me to stop shaking. What a horrible feeling. |
Oh Wow what a horrible experience. I'm glad he 's OK. |
Just to see his eyes and his hands up to his throat. wow I will never forget it. |
What a scary feeling! I remember talking to my uncle one time as he was eating chicken and he began choking... his face almost began turning blue even. I had NO idea what to do and neither did my mother and we both panicked and ran to get a neighbor while I stayed with him. He ran himself up against a couch and did the heimlich on himself and actually lodged it out! |
Choking is a scary thing! I've never seen anyone choke but I've choked before. It is one of the scariest feelings. It was probably one of my most embarrassing moments ever since we were in a public restaurant. :p We were at Bob Evan's & I swallowed one of their potato chunks without chewing and immediately started panicking & hitting the table to get my boyfriends attention. He said I was starting to turn blue & my eyes were red & bugging out. I kept taking a drink of my milk to try & "wash it down" but of course it had nowhere to go so once he started hitting my back my breakfast ended up covered in chocolate milk and some guy then kept staring at me while my boyfriend finished his breakfast. :( Now anytime I even swallow something that just doesn't feel right my throat tenses up & I feel it happening all over again. It's scary. I'm glad your son ended up okay & you and your husband knew what to do! |
How scarry, Thankfully he is ok now. ;) |
wow how scary for you. Im glad your husband was there and knew what to do. |
I am so glad your son is ok. I would probably panic in this situation :( I too am glad your husband knew what to do. I can\'t even imagine how scared you were :( |
OMG how scarey, I have 3 children 25,22, 13 I can tell you my older two never have seen the inside of the ER , my youngest has been there more times then I can count. I can only imagine how scared you were, Im happy he is okay!! |
Quick thinking! Glad everything is okay. That was quite a scare for everyone. |
Glad that everything turned out okay! Thank goodness your hubby knew what to do. I\'ve trained in it but have never had to use it and hopefully will never have to. |
Thank God he\'s ok and your DH knew what to do! |
When my kids were babies I was crazy with things the could choke on. I would peel grapes even and cut them up. I wouldn\'t give them cheerios, I would give them rice crispies to start out with. I was terrified of them choking. I too am so glad my dh was here. He actually thought he broke my son\'s ribs he was squeezing so hard. He confessed to me that he was petrified also because he was out of ideas if that didn\'t work. He said he knows there is just a certain amount of air in the lungs to push it out but after all the air is out then what??? I had my hand on the phone, if my son hadn\'t gotten it out that second I was calling 911. I wasn\'t gong to wait until we were outof ideas. Meanwhile my 20 year old is downdtairs and afterward he says oh you should of just called me I am certified. He works at the YMCA in the summer as a camp councelor and he has to be certified. I\'m lucky I even didn\'t pass out myself. I gotta tell you I am still shaken up this morning. Thank you for all your good wishes. |
