Thanks everyone. I haven't spoken with him yet. One of my brother's best friends is blind due to his diabetes and lives in the same town as my grandfather. I'm sure when he finds out he will go see him as quickly as he can and offer whatever help he can. As soon as I talk to him and found out for myself how he is feeling I will let everyone know. Again thanks for all of your warm words and suggestions. We are all still a little numb even though we knew this was coming it's still hard. My grandfather is so independent and proud I can't see him just sitting around and not doing as much as he can for himself. |
Just wanted to give everyone an update on my grandfather. I talked to him last night. With everything going on I forgot to mention in my orginal post that he has macular degeneration in his left eye only. But, he started bleeding in his right eye about a month ago and they didn't do any treatment on it that said that the majority that it would clear itself up. Well it didn't but when I spoke with him last night he said that they can do laser treatments on it to make it where he can see better. How much better they don't know. This is great news. My mom & I were talking last night and he is in excellent health other than his eyes, but I know that he would go downhill fast. The doctor he saw yesterday said that the bleeding was a result of high blood pressure which he takes 3 pills a day for. I told him he needs to have them take blood and do lab work to check all of his medicine and adjust it if needed. That will all the blood pressure medication he is on that should not have happened. Anyway I just wanted to updat everyone. He goes back to the eye doctor on Friday but doesn't think that this office does the laser treatments, so they will be sending him someplace else for that probably next week. Thanks everyone for listening. |
Sheila, my heart goes out to you and your family. My grandfather lost his eyesight as well and I remember how hard it was for him and for us. I lost him about a year ago and I still miss him very much. He was the sweetest man I have ever known. Everyone has given you great advice. All I can add is to cherish every moment you have with him, be a good listener and let him know you love him. |

Thanks. We lost my grandmother 4 years ago she died on my birthday. Needless to say my birthday is always hard now. I've always been as close to my grandparents as if they were my parents. My mom was sick alot when I was little so she was in and out of the hospital and I would stay with my grandparents. Until I was a teenager I would go to there house the day after school went out and not come back home until just a few days before school started back and would cry because I had to go home. So, this has been really rough on me. Thanks again to everyone. |
Thanks for the update. Only time will tell how this will all work out. |
I hope everything works out. Hugs to you!! |
