My daughter's dog was mauled

 I am so mad, hurt, sad, angry, all the emotions that come when another dog kills a dog. My daughter's dog was a mini-dachshund, called a double dapple. It's deaf and 1/2 blind, even when they are born. The neighbors have a small dog, and a Rottie. The small dog and Lizzie (my daughter's dog) play together. But someone left a door ajar, and the Rottie came out, grabbed Lizzie by the neck, and broke her neck, and bit her in other places. I took my daughter with Lizzie to the E.R., even tho I could tell that Lizzie was gone. She kept screaming, Hurry Mom, Hurry! My heart just broke, for both my daughter, and for Lizzie. I knew what they were going to tell her when we got there. Now two days later, Her neighbor has not come to see how she is, or what happenend to Lizze, Nothing. The sad part too, is they go to the same church. He was told his dog has to be removed by this Friday. I am afraid that this dog will get in the hands of a family with children. Animal Control was called, but has not showed up yet.
Thank You for letting me get this out. Darlene

I'm soooo sorry to hear this. This is awful. I can't believe he hasn't said anything to her. The neighbors dog will not go to another family, it will most likely be put down.

I am so sorry. I had a double dapple. He was fine. (Thou deafness and blindness is a common trate) Anyway..please give your daughter a big hug and tell her how sorry we here at Grey Acres are.

Just for fun I attached a picture of "Zero". We called him "Z". He only made it to about 7 when he blew out 4 discs at once in his back:(

That is what she looked like. What a sweetheart. One of these good dogs that don't bark, jump, beg, etc. Of course being deaf, might have had something to do with it, but even tho, she was a trooper. I've been trying to keep my daughter busy. Even when they are in their 30's, it still hurts to lose a dog, her baby, and the way she lost it. She said, Mom, I can't get the picture out of my mind. All I can see is Lizzie hanging from the Rottie's mouth. I don't even want to look at these people in the face. I am so mad, I could scream. And she only had Lizzie as a pet. No others. My granddaughter is away in another state right now. She comes home tomorrow. I don't know how she will take it. :(

OMG! Another dog mauled by a Rottweiler I just can't believe it. That poor poor baby. And the owners of the Rottweiler haven't taken any responsibility or said anything. That is just wrong. RIP Lizzie

Mom of 3 10-03-2009 09:28 PM

Thank You all. It just hurts no matter what your baby is. I just got off the phone with my daughter. I finally told her to try and get some rest tonight. It was 1am here. :(

I know how hard it is. I am in my mid 40's and I just had my heartdog Domino diagnosed with cancer. We had the tumors removed: but all we did was buy him time. I am having a hard time myself.

The reason I attached Z's picture is so others would know what a double dapple looked like.

Truly my heart goes out to your Dear Daughter.

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

Oh I am so very sorry. It doesn't matter how old we are, how old they are, or how long we have had them. It just still hurts. To see my 38 year old daughter cry so hard, and not be able to help her. My granddaughter will be the one tomorrow we will have to worry about. She is 14. I put a picture of Lizzie and my granddaughter in my gallery. I hope I did it right. Darlene

greyacresmom 10-03-2009 09:52 PM

I just looked. Did not see a picture. But then again, not sure where to look.

Oh I feel for the grand-daughter. She will need strength. Good luck!

Mom of 3 10-03-2009 09:59 PM

Oh it's under Albums. I think it's under the heading, My little Raindrop.
Anyways, it's the first picture. Brittany and Lizzie.
Britt is the one I have to worry about next.

I am so so sorry for your loss xxx

Bianca 10-04-2009 01:20 AM

:( How devastating and sad. I am so sorry this has happened.
The Rotti will most likely be out down . Sending love and prayers for you both. :(

WV~Yorkies 10-04-2009 02:29 AM

I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had the same thing happen to my Jinny about 2 years ago. She had over 10 bites on her little body. A week later her lung filled up with blood and she passed away. Since my county does not have a leash law I could not find anyone to help me. The dog that attacked mine attacked a shih tzu down the road a couple weeks later and the owner shot the big dog on the spot. I stopped by and thanked him.

veguroev 10-04-2009 05:10 AM

i want to say many things, but no words are going to comfort you and your daughter. I'm heartbroken for the loss of your beloved pet.
RIP dear Lizzy.:littleang

Oh no Darlene, I am so sorry this happened to your daughters little Lizzie :( my heart goes out to her, I can only imagine how devastated she must feel, it was an unnecessary tragedy that should never have happened. my heart goes out to her, and to you.

Patti 10-04-2009 03:20 PM

I am so sorry for your daughter's tragic loss. We feel their pain no matter how old they are.

FlDebra 10-04-2009 07:40 PM

Darlene -- so sorry to read of your family's loss. So very sad to lose a pet under any circumstance but when it could have been avoided by an owner keeping their dangerous dog under control, it is even more frustrating. My heart goes out to you, your daughter, and granddaughter. RIP Lizzie!

Mom of 3 10-05-2009 04:44 AM

Thank You ALL for your loving thoughts and prayers. Sorry I was not on yesterday, but my granddaughter came home yesterday to be told of her baby. She is 14, and now she is just devastated. She didn't go to school today. She keeps saying she doesn't want to live in her house anymore. My heart just breaks for both my daughter, and granddaughter. :unlove:
Thank you all again. You can always depend on the good people of Yorkie Talk. Darlene

I am terribly sorry for the loss of your daughter and granddaughter's beloved
pet. That's a horrific story. My heart breaks for your young granddaughter
and what she is going threw. I remember the pain of losing a pet at that
age, and it was a doxie also.
Hugs to all of you,

AprilLove 10-05-2009 02:12 PM

I am so sorry about what happened to your daughter's fur-baby; we all feel the same way; they are so much more to us than just pets...........they're family.

Mom of 3 10-05-2009 05:33 PM

Thank You all. My granddaughter is going to school tomorrow, and I am hoping she makes it all the way through. It's so hard for both my daughter and granddaughter as that was their only pet/family member. Even my daughter stayed home today from work today. Both are going to try it tomorrow. Thanks for all your prayers. You cannot have too many prayers. Darlene

LunasMomma 10-06-2009 03:33 AM

How awful:cry: I'm so sorry!

Big hugs to your family. I hope that that Rottie is better controlled now that the owners are aware of it's viciousness:(

Omg that's sooooo sad I hope he is getting better ! but there should be a law and if you own a BIG dog and it attack someone are someone small dog the owner of the big dog should be fined and have to pay all doctor bill's and pain and suffering ! All throw that do fix what the big dog did but if there was a law it might slow down on some of the attacks that's been happen and if the dog attacks two times it should gets put down and the owner has to pay a fine of ten thousand dollars:D

Mom of 3 10-07-2009 12:27 PM

My daughter's dog, Lizzie didn't make it. She died in my daughter's arms on the way to the E.R. Hospital. Poor girl didn't stand a chance.
I wish there were better laws too. I told my daughter to do whatever it takes, because we all know Lizzie did not die in vain. She was very much loved, and needed.

SaraAlexine00 10-07-2009 02:36 PM

harleysmomma24 10-07-2009 02:55 PM

same situation well sorta

my baby boy harley was 8 months and he was mauled by a syberian huskey harley opened the back door and went over to the dog that was chained up the dog too him and threw him around a couple times.. the owner came over and told us to check on our dog bc her dog was" playing with him\' we didnt even know he got out. when we went to the fence he was there he climb 6 stair back inside
he had a giant whole in his back and also kicked his main attery in his leg my brother had his finger on it the whole way to find a vet.. he kept passing out
we had a hard time finding a vet that was open bc it was the fourth of july . we drove an hour to the next city where an emergency place was .. they stoped counting all his stiches and staples .. he has so many we called him franking pup right after his surgury still groggy
they sent me home with him and said if he makes it 24 hours he will have a good chance to live.. i was so scared i stayed up with him all night that night with him .. and he kept having flash backs where he would scream and jump and hurt himself.... they never came to check on him at all never asked to pay the bills
nothing everytime we went out in the yard they would run inside. they moved out 3 weeks after
my baby was very lucky to live now he is going to be 4 and is healthy but if u feel his back the skin is so tight still bc they had to pull the skin from his sides to cover it

sry for ur loss
