Finally quitting the cigs! I've wanted to for a while now and just finally decided today not to go and buy more. I smoked the last one at 6:30 am. Doing okay so far, with short bursts of wanting to break things:laugh: WHY OH WHY did I ever start again last time?!?! Wish me luck (and pray for my poor family :p ) |
I want to wish you much luck. I was a smoker for 10 years when I was younger. I quit cold turkey. I haven't had one in 20 years. It was tough but don't give in. Good luck!! |
Good for you:thumbup: I am sure with will power and determination you'll be fine. Make sure you have lot's of low calorie snacks available when you get the urge. Good luck to you and congratulations on getting healthier. |
LOL I made same choice today though it funny two the same day let's work togeather for support anyone else want In let's start our healthy lives today |
Wishing you every success in this awesome decision! I know first hand how difficult it will be -- but so very worth it! I quit over 9 years ago. I cut drinking straws to the right length and stuck them in my mouth when I needed a fix, especially while driving. Sometimes it helped just to have them to fiddle with in my hand. I also used patches, went to a hypnotist, tried accupunture, and read all the websites I could find. I would try a little of everything. Finally got through it. Every once in a while I still get an urge. But knowing how hard it was to kick it always helps me ignore the urge. You might even want to join one of the online Quit Smoking forums. Helps to keep affirming the decision to quit and have someone to talk with when it gets tough. Best of luck to you! |
wow!!! good for you. need lots of will power, you can do it.. i need to quit also, i dont think i could do it.. i really need to, its killing me and i feel it. |
thanks to all for the encouragement:) I have quit a few times before (pregnancies, surgeries, etc.) but always took it back up again. I hate that about me! It's so hard to quit, so I know I have to not be tempted into it again. NO MORE!!!! I'd like to be able to breathe and not stink:laugh: Been smoking off and on since I was 10 years old. My babysitter at that time had a 15 year old daughter that taught me to smoke, and thought it was so funny and cute:mad: I wish I could punch her in the nose right about now:laugh: I have some nicotine gum that I'm using, I've chewed 4 pieces of that today.. It does help, but OMG the heartburn it gives me is almost not worth it. I'll just use it as a last resort, after I've exhausted the sunflower seeds in the shell, celery and carrot sticks, and hard candies. |

Good luck!! I quit almost 2 years ago.. I was a smoker for 6 years. It made me feel so much better about myself! Granted I gained a few lbs. bc i was alway eating, but it was sooo worth it. I tried chantix but it gave me very violent nightmares so I went cold turkey! I still get cravings to this day here and there when I am stressed but I don't give in. Once again good luck and let me know if you need anything.. you have been such a good friend to me! |
Yeayy!! Good job!! You can do it!!:thumbup: And good job to all those women on here that have quit!! It's the best to do for yourself and your family!! |

24 hours under my belt:D I've been coughing a lot and woke up hourly all night long, but only a few more days and I'll feel better:) You ladies help so much, really inspire me to stay strong:love: |
You go girl...you can do it.I admire you I have tried to quit and it is hard.Took prescription drugs ,the gum everything. If only we knew how stupid it was to start when we were young (I was in Jr High)..wish you well cause I know what a ordeal it is. |
:thumbup: You can do it! Just get past the cough and everything will be smooth sailing from there. I quit the first time for 7 years to the day and then quit pretty much cold turkey. I did smoke 2 cigs in this time and I was sitting with my doctor, who was writing something in my chart at that moment, and confessed to her. She hesitated writing but never looked up and started writing again and finished. When she got done, she pushed my chart away and and said to me, "Thank you for being honest but if you continue to smoke, we do not need to see each other anymore. We are working too hard to get you well for you to start smoking again." Haven't touch them since and hubby is a smoker! I don't miss them at all, I feel better and I dont' stink all the time! lol Best of luck to you! :) |

I caught some of an advertisement on the radio today about a program to stop smoking in Florida where they will supply you with patches, gum, etc. FREE as long as supplies last. I will try to find a link and get back to you. |

Maybe these will help. Not sure if this is what I was hearing on the radio today or not, but I will post more info if I hear the ad again. |
Thanks, Deb:) I've already got some gum, but haven't used much as it gives me horrible heartburn:( I'm doing okay, but today is day three, usually the roughest for me. This is the day where I'm either free, or I'm at the store buying cigarettes:rolleyes: I'm staying busy today in hopes that it'll fly by and I'll be okay:) |
Congrats on your effort to quit smoking.I quit 3 1/2 years ago 2 weeks after my father passed from lung cancer. stay strong:) |
Congratulations on making the best health decision of your life and quitting smoking! This is the time for you to take care if you. I'd like to share with you something that helped me to quit cold turkey. I was a 20 year, 1-2 pack per day smoker. On may 29, 2005, I smoked my last cigarette. I will never take another puff again because I know that one puff will turn into a pack... Here is my advice * do not use nicotine replacement in any form- it will only reinforce your addiction *download a quit tracker and everyday you do not smoke, count the money you save. At the end of one week, spend that money on something for you. How about a manicure since your fingers won't be yellow anymore? Or whiten up your teeth because they too will be free of nicotine and tar stains *drink egyptian licorice tea - the taste will take the edge off. Licorice flavor is added to some cigarette brands to make the flavor appealing. How else do the tobacco companies hide the 4,000+ chemicals in their products? L *eat well and embrace your withdrawal for the healing process it is *do not give in to any urge to smoke, it will make you feel bad and ruin tour quit thereby reinforcing the addiction. *know that there us something about the 3s -- at 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, you will find it harder. Stay strong - you ate in charge, not those cigs. *read and reread the website WhyQuit - the Internet's leading cold turkey quit smoking resource -- keep reading an get angry. I promise you this- it gets easier with everyday that passes. Feel free to PM me for support. Congratulations and hugs. |
