paws and hsus The Humane Society of the United States is helping the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office and Pontotoc Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.) move about 120 border collies from a 10-acre property in Ada, Okla. to animal shelters where they can be placed for adoption. The Humane Society of the United States has set up temporary shelter for the animals at P.A.W.S. in Ada, and is preparing to transport 50 dogs to the Dumb Friends League in Denver. Staff members from the Nebraska Humane Society drove from Omaha to pick up the first 25 rescued dogs. The border collies will be placed up for adoption soon at their shelter. "The Humane Society of the United States is happy to help move these animals from danger and take them to shelter where they can find loving homes," said Cynthia Armstrong, The Humane Society of the United States' Oklahoma state director. "We'd like to thank P.A.W.S. and the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office for recognizing the gravity of the situation and reaching out to us." P.A.W.S. called The Humane Society of the United States on June 24 seeking help capturing about 80 free-roaming dogs because the dogs' elderly owner was admitted into a nursing home and the dogs were left alone to roam the 10-acre property. The dogs were running onto area roadways, and The Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office asked The HSUS for help capturing the animals. The sheriff was concerned about the dogs' welfare and public safety. After arriving Tuesday, The Humane Society of the United States discovered there were about 120 dogs on the property. HSUS field workers rounded up the border collies and set up the temporary shelter. P.A.W.S. in Ada has devoted resources and space to house the animals. PetSmart Charities donated dog food. |
That is amazing. How wonderful to be able to get them off the property and safely housed. They are so cute! You are a very special person. |
What a blessing you have been to those puppies! :) Thanks for sharing your story and experience. They are so adorable. I hope that they find homes quickly! |

Thank you Renee:D I will post more pictures soon |
Wow the story is amazing! I'm so glad there are people like you who take the time to do this, I hope everyone of those dogs finds a new home. I a little confused, it says that the owner had to go to a nursing home, and the dogs were free roaming on the property, do you know if the owner was a breeder, or were these all just "pets"? Anyway, a big thank you for what you are doing in finding these dogs new homes. |

What a story. Thank heavens for people like yourself Lori. Those pups are just precious. Lucky you to be able to give the the human touch and love to get them started in life. This bred is so intelligent and is a true working dog and needs lot's of space to roam free or they get so stressed out. Beautiful dogs when fully grown too. I hope to give some time when I retire to our local SPCA. I just hope I have the nerves to get me threw the sad cases. Bless you, |
aawww God Bless You Lori for giving this Momma and her pups a safe haven, they are all beautiful |
