We're staying. Just a little update to let everyone know that we are going to stay. Looks like Rita will be hitting the eastern part of Texas and we won't get a direct hit. Will more than likely be rain and some wind so we're going to tough it out. Got my 20 gage ready and a box of shells. Have had people coming from Houston that have been stranded at gas stations. It's really sad. I want to invite some over but you don't know what their intentions are. Who can you trust? This is horribly sad so see these people. Please keep them in your prayers. |
i'm SO happy that you're staying!! i am still praying for everyone in its path. but please, make sure you stay safe! |
please be safe !! |
2 Attachment(s) Here's the picture from earlier today and the latest one. It's moving away from Houston...YEAH, VILLETTE! |
I just saw that you were on, and I thought maybe you got somewhere and plugged in! I was impressed that you went to YT right away!! lol Reading the posts, someone said to freeze lots of water for if you loose power. And find your matches, candles, flashlights and all that stuff. Or do like Villette, get the grooming products out so you can have something to do! Be safe Kimberly! |
Oh, I hope you will be safe there. I know where Victoria is. That thing is a whopper! I think you ought to leave. :( Have you heard any mention of Bay City on the news re: this storm? |

I've been putting water in ziplocks and freezing them. can use them to cool down food and once it melts, you can drink it. fixin to go freeze some more. LOLOLOL! Only Villette would think of something like that!!!!!!! :D :D :D |
Do you think the odds of them calling off the S.O. are very high? I hope they do that, but I hesitate to believe they will... |
Please be safe!!! |

well, they're letting him come home at 6 tomorrow morning...regular shift...and then the sheriff and others will have a meeting at 8...will know by noon. Having a couple of guys that work out of town stay with us...should I fix breakfast or not.... |
I wouldn't fix breakfast. I'd just turn the kitchen over to them! :D |
Looks like you'll get rain but otherwise be far enough away from the damage. I am worried about my family in galveston, though.....they have 8 girls all under the age of 13 and they said they're staying. That's poor judgment if you ask me....with so many lives in your hands, wouldn't it be best to be safe than sorry????!!!! |
I don't think there's any safe place in that area because they said they were expecting 20 - 30 inches of rain. That means huge floods! When my grandmother was a little girl, they lived near Caldwell (and the Brazos River) and they were flooded from the 1900 hurricane. I can't believe anyone is staying at Galveston! I saw a guy on the news this evening that said he lived on 4th floor of his condo and he was staying! |

You cracked me up with your gun!!! |
I agree it is stupid. When the guy in the condo said that, I was picturing the casinos on the gulf that were completely moved! |
Be safe. I am so sorry this is happening! I hope nothing bad happens |
Kimberly, you and your family will be in my prayers. I wish all of you the best of luck. Stay safe! Think wise! Becky |

They told my MIL tonight that it took their neighbor 24 hours to get 75 miles on the interstate. Gas stations are out of gas adnd so cars are breaking down on the side of the road with no place to GET gas....further worsening the traffic. But I say you're better off 75 miles away in a hotel than you are in your house when a Cat 5 (or 4) is headed dead-on. I'm from Charleston, SC - I know about hurricanes and I've stuck a few out, but nothing Cat. 2 or above. My family and I are not that dumb !!!!!! |
All these poor people! My heart and prayers go out to all of them! |
Kimberly, I just responded to the other post without seeing this one... I hope everything works out for you and everyone else... Good luck and be safe girl |
I am so pleased to see that it's missing you too. I was so relieved to have it move like they said it was because my 81 year old Dad is NOT leaving here. But then, I have family in Houston/Tomball/Spring and I've been so worried about them. Now it's moving on - They are starting to get the traffic really moving they say on TV. I sure hope so. But staying on GAlveston Island??? NO WAY They are expecting the tidal surge to make 10 feet above the sea wall. No island is safe on the coast during a hurricane. They aren't letting anyone back on Padre or South Padre I hear. That is real worrisome. Hope you are all okay. I'm thinking about you. |
Sully is on his surfboard, ready to fight away the hurricane for you guys! ;) |

It might zig-zag for awhile before they know where. I hope you don't have any big rivers near you. This time tomorrow night we will all know where it is. :( |
I am praying for a miracle and that it weakens down to a 1 or 2. I feel so bad for anyone in or near Rita's path. Please be safe all of you!!! |
Helloooooooooooo Everyone - It's now Friday and after watching the news for 2 days...deciding to stay because we just COULDN'T leave and hearing it is lessened ...I was STILL up at 4am this morning checking on the status of this monster. Kimberly - I HOPE your mom made it ok to your house - I pm'd you early this morning - Val - anyone who stayed in Galveston is in danger !!! do they know how terrible that could be for them during a MAJOR HURRICANE ? Do they know Galveston was wiped out in the 1900's during a Cat 4 hurricane ? I found this in a search on the top deadliest Hurricanes - GALVESTON was ranked #1 ! http://www.stormfax.com/hurdeath.htm TX (Galveston) YEAR - 1900 ....Catagory 4 ....8000+ DEATHS !!! For those who have family in Texas and Louisanna - I THINK we aren't going to be in as bad of shape as first thought ....but today will tell us more - I was up WAY WAY to early today - 4 am and I'm a nervous wreck...but I just want to say that IF we have evacuated - my husband ..me and the girls - We would still be on the freeways and I know in my heart - my husband could have never withstoood the heat or lack of water on the freeways - it's just a nightmare here right now. Our decision to stay due to lack of $$$ actually worked out in our case. I hope everyone who is IN Houston or has family here will be safe - I'm trying to keepo up with the people I know that live here and I also want to thank those of you who are posting because ALL these posts are just awesome to read - and BRENDA - minniemn ...I need to say a VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to you - Just so people know....You did something SO awesome that I can't thank you enough - I just want to share with everyone that you are just ONE AWESOME PERSON and again - thank you so much - what you did was just wonderful and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. :) :) :) :) big HUGS to you & your family.... |
