Hurricane Rita...NOT AGAIN! 1 Attachment(s) For those of you that didn't know, we've got another hurricane that is expected to be in the gulf by tomorrow. It's projected area to hit is between Brownsville, TX and Galvaston. Once again, my husband will be working nights and since he has a county job, he has to be there plus be on call during his sleeping hours. THIS SUCKS THE BIG ONE!!!! I'll be at home with 2 kids and 3 furbabies. Well, they're expecting it to be a category 3 storm which is totally scary. I'm more afraid of the looters than the storm at this point. |
this is beyond insane!! i hope that everyone in her path is safe. i have them all in my prayers. |
We need to pray that it doesn't change it's course and hit LA again. This is the last thing they need! |
Man are we paying for something .... this country has been through CRAP these past years lately ... WTH is going on... :( |

Mother Nature has really been showing us all who's boss! Ugh! My thoughts go out to everybody who might be affected by this storm/hurricane. |
Kimberley, I have a Houston address, but live much closer to Galveston in the Clear Lake area. Oddly enough I've lived in San Antonio and that's not particularly a safe place to escape. San Antonio floods very, very badly with storms like this. We plan on evacuating on Wed. and heading towards Ft. Worth. I'll spend tomorrow moving what I can from the lower floor to the upstairs. Even if Galveston doesn't take a direct hit, Houston is in the middle of the "cone" and I don't see how we could escape much. Oh well, let's face it...what's most important is our family. Let's see, there my husband, my nine-year-old son, and my two yorkies. Yep...that covers it! Luckily, I have a large SUV and we'll load it down with necessities and off we'll go!!!!!!! |
My sister is in the Clear Lake area and that IS on the water - Be safe and good luck ! |

Good luck just be safe! We are going to go through it before it hopefully does not go to you. Of course, it will come as a category one or two here, tomorrow. |
good luck!!! but we are going to get hit first :( but we all will get passed this ;) |
Sending everyone some prayers who will be affected by this storm. Mother Nature sure is having her way the past few years, isnt she? Well, get out of harms way, and stay safe!!! |
Waco is perfect. That's the direction we'll go....highway 259. We'll go through Waco to Stephenville further west. Be safe! |
guys please please please be careful!! this has all got to pass sooner or later!! i have you all in my thoughts and prayers, be safe, and good luck! |
I'll take the california earthquakes ANY DAY.... at least those dont happen very often  i could never live like that..... storms just freak me out... lol... the hurricane is named after one of my friends :p |
thats whats good about NJ we get nothing. of course there's the occasional blizzard but thats no big deal, and if we do get anything for a hurricane its the very very very very edge. i LOVE it here! lol |

A very close friend of mine also lives in the Clearlake area and she is freaking out. She is just starting to get back on her feet financially after being layed off/downsized and hit with some unexpected $ problems and can't really afford to evacuate to a hotel somewhere. I am really worried for her. |
They're predicting it to hit Matagorda Bay which is like 35 minutes from here. Trying right now to find a hotel in Austin but it looks like they're all booked up. :( I feel like crying!!!!! |
Oh no! I am so sorry. I wanna cry with you! Keep trying hotels or maybe bed/breakfasts places, anything. Maybe hotels a little farther out? Thinking about you and Schatzie sends hugs to comfort you! :aimeeyork |
please dont cry. everything is going to be ok just calm down thats the most important thing you must be calmed so then you can think of what your going to do. please try to get a hotel or a shelter near you so you and your family and of course your furbabies can be safe. my prayers are with you and your family |
Now, I\'m pi$. Finally get through to travelocity and they booked me a room...12 HOUR AWAY!!!!!   I could have driven to my home town in 8 hours...COME ON!!! |
DH has a staff meeting at 8:00 AM, then we\'re off. We\'ll be going to friends in Stephenville, TX to wait it out. We live close enough to the coast that the prediciton of a 15-20 foot storm surge is probably going to hit us. I moved what I could to the upstairs, but I doubt it will help much. Gads, trying to get a 35 year marriage into the back of an SUV is quite a trick. All the neighbors are on edge...yea, might as well let it go! |
My parents live in Houston and they are leaving tomorrow to come up to stay with us in Lubbock until it blows over. I haven\'t heard the evening\'s news yet but I\'m sure there are still hotels available here though Lubbock is a good 9 hour\'s drive. My prayers and thoughts are with you all. |
txshopper73 I\'m praying for you and your family. Do you have a place to crash already? I heard all of the motels and hotels as close to Dallas have been booked. Let us know. |
I think you are right to get out of there with the kids and dogs! I wouldn\'t stay by myself. Your hubby can let you know when things are okay to come back. Just be safe and start EARLY. Nothing worse than being in a logjam on the highway with kids and dogs - been there, done that. Best of luck. |
I hope everyone stays safe!! they are talking about it coming up into oklahoma and flooding up here too... Also.. Tornados!! looks like i\'ll be staying with my parents! |

that\'s my position too right now till our next job starts... and it\'s in GALVESTON of all places - Having no $$ makes it impossible for us to stay in a hotel ...so I know how your friend feels - |
