Misused words Ok, so technically the following words aren’t misspelled. They’re misused. The reason you should review this list is because a spell checker won’t correct these for you. Make sure that you’ve got foolproof control over them. Extensively misusing them throughout your posts may actually cost you a visitor or two every now and then because some folks do get caught up on these, which means they won’t focus 100 % of their attention on your incredibly valuable content! 1. Your - You’re As mentioned above, your message might lose impact if you’re not paying attention to this number one word maltreatment. If you find it particularly difficult to separate them from each other, stop using ‘you’re’ altogether and notice how you are starting to improve your spelling. 2. Then - Than The next step is then to tell yourself that it’s better late than never to get that vowel placement in order. Then your readers might find something more useful to comment on than your apparent spelling impediment. 3. Its - it’s It’s best to write an article and its words properly for optimal reader engagement. Again, if you still fail to tell the difference without effort, just write how great it is not having to worry about misusing or misspelling words. 4. To - Too - Two To write two posts per day, or not to write two posts per day. That too is the question. 5. Were - Where - We’re Where in the world were you? We were at Billy’s and we’re staying for another day. Make sure your blog visitors do that too. 6. There - Their - They’re They’re moving their cursor over there. By focusing more attention on proper word use, your visitors won’t highlight and pinpoint your mistakes. 7. A - An - And A flawlessly written article serves as an eye-opener and should provide lasting value. Remember also that an abbreviation like SUV starts with a vowel pronunciation and requires an ‘an’ in front of it. 8. Off - Of Of all the mistakes you could prevent from appearing, start off by checking out this common mix up. You should have paid attention at school when they told you not to write ’should of’. Or off your visitors go. 9. Here - Hear Hear ye! Hear ye! Here is a blog worth reading. You can almost hear the distant clicks of new visitors finding their way over here this very moment. 10. Lose - Loose But if you’re too loose on your writing discipline, you will end up losing those readers after a while. You’d have a bolt loose if you don’t apply these 10 writing rules from now on with greater care. You win some and you don’t lose anyone. Can you find the misused or misspelled word in this article? |
- Chewing w/ your mouth open - Not using your blinker - Bad grammar - Standing right in the middle of an aisle and not moving/caring |
Movies that just end and leave you wondering. |
Everyone that hates bad grammar needs to read this: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/misspelling It's hilarious... as is the rest of his site. :) |
I have a lot of pet peeves but most of them are work related 1. I'm a sever and it kills me when I go up to a table to wait on them and they act like I am inconveniencing them 2. Not tipping your server, we only get paid 3 something an hour tips are our pay 3. people who "know it all" 4. extreme pda, I understand a little affection but I wait on people who attempt to round the bases  I'm afraid to keep going back to the table because I don't know what I am going to interrupt! 5. When men honk or yell at me out of their car, really has that ever worked for them?! 6. I'm a nanny also and I'm going to school for psychology so parents think that I can "fix" their children 7. when people ask me to diagnose them, expecially after I've talked to them for five minutes  8. when people tell me they hate Pann because he's a small dog!:mad::mad: 9. when people tell me what a great server I am and then hand me the bill telling me to keep the change and acting like they are doing me a favor and it something like two cents. We have to tip out on that bill to the hosts, bar tenders, server assistants, and bussers so we end out having to pay the restaurant for waiting on your table. I've seen a server end her shift and she owed the restaurant for working that day  10. my mother... 11. my landlord, he ignores my requests for basic maintenance! I pay rent the least you could do is fix the place, I'm not a complainer but when I tell them the dishwasher stopped working and the response is well you really don't need that do you it makes me go  really! |

I know this is an old thread, and I noticed one on here from 2009 that also bothers me... sirens in music. I always turn my music down and look in the mirrors and slow down, thinking there's an emergency vehicle around! I realize it's the music, turn it back up, and when it happens again 30 seconds later I do it all over  Spelling mistakes and misused words bother me too! My boyfriend has terrible grammar and spelling and it really bothers me. He is dyslexic and had problems in school growing up. I really think grammar and spelling are so important these days when so much communication is done through email. I remember when I first met my cousin's boyfriend (now ex) after a few years of knowing him just over MSN and Facebook... his grammar and spelling were terrible! We met in person and I told her later that I felt bad because I was genuinely surprised that he came off as a regular person who could speak in real coherent sentences! |
People that have to come to an almost COMPLETE stop just to pull in to a shopping center off the highway!!I know you can't speed into the lot, but, you must remember to turn in quickly so the person behind you don't get steamrolled while you obliviously go on your merry way!!! |
Besides the usual- people that don't use blinkers, cars thumping loud "music" at 2am, etc, there seems to be an abundance of folks in my town that assumes that because DH and I have "spoiled" dogs because we take them around in a stroller/bike trailer. We purchased it so the boys can join us on outings, like festivals and such, and so they wouldn't feel so overwhelmed. Some of the people here in my little town actually have said some NASTY things. Its my pet peeve that they can't keep it to themselves!:thumbdown |
Ok....my 2 cents: People who take up the WHOLE bike path. People that pull in front of you and then slow way down. People who talk at the movies. Motorcyclists who rev their motors and scare the crap out of everyone. People who walk their dogs and don't pick up after them. People who "snack" on the fruits at the grocery store. |

I once put a sign on the stove; See how clean I am; keep me that way! Btw it only worked for one month. I hide special food items, put my name on them, and most recently went to the freezer to get some lovely pecans to use in a salad, and there were two left:mad: Bringing back the car on empty! |
