Awww, I am sorry to read this! I suffer from chronic migraines so I completely understand. I saw in another thread that you are having eye problems...this can be a huge cause of headaches (I have had eye problems my whole life...I had major surgery when I was less than two). I go to a specialist for my migraines, have had MRIs....I can tell you that mine are bad, REALLY bad!!! What works for me is Imitrex pills and I also use the Imitrex shots. I know that someone recommended caffeine...be careful of how much you do because it is actually a big trigger. Other triggers are not getting enough sleep (this is one of my main triggers). You might want to start keeping track of each and everything that you are eating/drinking to see if there is a trend with your migraines. These are all things that my specialist told me to do...in fact, he said that a lot of his patients have had some relief from their pain by starting the South Beach Diet. I was literally living the majority of my life in pain and trying to be the best mommy that I could....I got fed up with being in pain and being depressed from it! I started doing my own research for alternatives. I found several articles supporting migraine decrease with the intake of Omega 3 with fish oil pills...this is what I started doing. I went from having 2-3 migraines a week (each one lasting 2 days) to about 2-4 a month. I played around with different brands and dosage to see what would work with my body. I have found that GNC's works the best for me personally. It took about a month and a half before I could tell a difference, but once they were in my system, my life changed because of my pain lessening!! :) I do still take Imitrex when I get one, though. I hope I helped some....I feel so badly for people when I hear that they are going through the pain of migraines. Tammy |

One of my customers sells that Mon-a-Vie acai juice stuff. She claims it had ended her migraines. she said they were so bad that she was bedridden all day with compresses on her head. After drinking this stuff she's fine. She gave me a bottle to try out, and it's only been two days, i don't see any difference. Anyone else know anything about this stuff? |

ROFL, yes it is, but it sure does works! :) |
My 18 year old daughter has suffered from migraines for the past several months. They basically have ruined her Senior year for her (she graduated last evening!). We have done everything to find the cause and the right treatment. Went to the OB/GYN to see if it was hormonal, been to the neurologist, who gave her several meds to try and who ordered an MRi, which came back clean. Took her to the therapist to see if they were stress related, and went to the Chiroprator, which is the only thing that seemed to alleviate them in the slightest. The Chiro also supplied her with Fish Oil pills, and Calcium/Magnesium supplements. She does take Excedrin Migraine from time to time but is suffering from a headache even as I am typing this. These are horrible things...I will keep my eye on this thread for other advice. |
I get migraines quite often...what works MOST of the time for me is laying down in a dark, quiet room on my back with my knees drawn up and an ice pack wrapped in a towel over my forehead. Also from time to time I take 1 Dramamine (OTC motion sickness pill). This usually works for me. Good luck |

Mindfulness I have suffered from migraines since I was a child. There have been times that I was so nauseated from a headache that I could not even keep down a glass of water! One thing I have discovered is mindfulness or meditation.....It REALLY does help. In fact, people use these techniques to deal with all sorts of pain. Here's what you do: Get into a comfortable position. Concentrate on a particular part of your body. If you are not having a headache, concentrate on your breathing. But if you are having a migraine, FOCUS ON THE PAINFUL spot. Become MINDFUL of what is going on. Oddly enough, by focusing on the pain, it is not painful anymore. You still feel the headache there, but the suffering is gone. I don't know how to explain it any better than that. It works every time, but you have to stay with it. I use an ice pack at the same time that I practice this technique. Sometimes I fall asleep (which is not the goal) and when I do, the migraine is usually gone. Here are the other remedies I have tried: Ice packs and a dark room--can keep me from throwing up, but the headache stays. Caffeine--not effective Aspirin--not effective tylenol--not effective ibuprofen--takes the edge off, but the headache stays Maxalt--did not help all the time--not a reliable remedy for me Imitrex--works almost always...This is what I use now. Tylenol 3 with codeine--I LOVE this stuff, and it is foolproof. Unfortunately, I can't get a Dr. to prescribe it for me. They are afraid I will become addicted. It gives you a goofy, sleepy feeling, that frankly, is quite pleasant. Maybe I would become addicted! |
