Bat in my bed! I woke at 3am by something cold and rubber feeling hitting the top of my arm. I sat up and looked over and there is a full size bat laying next to my pillow!!!! AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I start screaming I guess, all I remember is saying "BAT!!! THERE'S A BAT IN THE BED!" And my husband is trying to calm me and saying be quiet so I don't wake the kids. The bat flies across the room and lands on my DVD player, hanging upside down against my TV screen. I have been doing internet searches for hours. (It is now in my shower by the way and bathroom door is closed tight with a towel under it!) Have called pest control to come get it and have it tested for rabies since it touched me. aaahhhhhhhhhhh! Please pray for me that it is not rabid!!! |
OK AFTER you find out that it's NOT rabid.....can I tell you that the visual of a bat snuggling up to you is hilarious? Can I? |
I just wanted to say, please don't kill it!! Bats are a VERY important part of the ecosystem. White-nose Syndrome Death In Bats: First Prevention Proposed By Ecologists Incase you haven't guessed I'm a bat lover:p |
We have a bat house in our back yard...no bats though. |

Aww, I love bats. They have cute little faces. I can imagine how you felt though because a lot people don't like them. I hope the bat was rabid and he's released back outside. Quote:

On one of the hottest summers on record we went to Duluth, MN to a place on Lake Superior to escape the heat. It was almost as hot up there we didn't escape. But we did get a bat in our room, when I called I found we were not alone. Alot of people were getting them, if they didn't come in a window they came in the fireplace. So we closed the windows and the fireplace damper. The maint guy came with a net and caught it. They said it was so hot the bats were trying to find a cool place to be also. Did I mention we had MIL with us? Oh yeah, fun time! |
I am sorry.. I have to agree.. the visual is funny. Poor bat was cold and trying to get you to snuggle! Now, it does give me the eebie geebies.. I would have freaked too! |
I would have died on the spot. I don't like bats - though I agree we need them around (just not in my bed thank you very much). |
Oh you poor thing!! I would have nightmares for life it that happened to me! |

I would of died from a heart attack. I'm glad it didn't end up in bed with the kids and especially happy no one got bit. |
holy crap!!!!! omg i would of died.. your new nickname is batwoman. hope your ok |
Now we know why it is a good thing to have your fur butts sleep in your bed! Ours detected a snake last Saturday that was about to sneak in... Mikki is the hero! |
How horrifying!!!!! Have you washed your bedding? LOL! Good luck sleeping tonight. I hate bats. I don't care if they are good or not, I hate them. I have had them in my room twice. One time as I was running, shrieking out of my room, the dang thing flew down and swiped my head.:eek: It took a good 6-7 months for my fluffs to go in my room without hiding under the bed. :o:o Right now I am sleeping on the couch cause I can hear bats in the eaves by my room and I cannot sleep in there. Hate em, hate em, hate em.:thumbdown Their droppings can supposedly cause TB and who the heck knows what else.... |
|
OMG, I would have died a thousand deaths!!!!!!!!!!! |
I hate bats...they are the creepiest things I've ever seen! I didn't really see anything funny about this story...they are just too darn creepy and evil looking...and what a shock to wake up next to one. I do have a funny story about a bat. A lady that slept in the buff, was in bed talking to her daughter on the telephone. All of a sudden the lady saw a bat in her room and she went ballistic...screaming and screaming into the phone. This lady had a basement apartment in her home that two girls rented. Well, those renters heard their landlord screaming and thought she must be being attacked, so they called 911. Pretty soon, the police were there and had to break her front door to get into the house. They found her in her bedroom under the covers and thinking there was someone in there with her, they pulled back the covers. hahaha. That poor lady! Stupid bat! To the OP...I hope and pray that bat is not rabid. |
Glad you guys can ~somewhat~ get me to see the humor in the situation. I'm on my way there, but not yet. The bat is a gonner. He is on his way to a lab to get his brains tested for rabies. I do feel bad for the thing, I'm sure he was just lost, but since he landed on me he has to get tested, or I have to just go get the rabies shots. Should get the results in two to three days. |

Wow, how quick you are to condemn. And such an expert! People usually know when they have been bitten by a bat. However, most types of bats have very small teeth which may leave marks that disappear quickly. There are situations in which you should seek medical advice even in the absence of an obvious bite wound. For example, if you awakened because a bat landed on you while you were sleeping, if you awakened and found a bat in your room, if you see a bat in a room with an unattended child, or see a bat near a mentally impaired or intoxicated person, try to safely capture the bat and have the bat tested, and seek medical advice. My kids having a mother is more important to me than if the bat, that invaded MY bed. I just joined this group. Maybe I should find another that takes human life more serious? |

OMG ......I would have freaked, screamed, and been sick to my stomach. I probably would have left the house til the thing was gone! Gross, gross, gross. I feel for you. On another note, yes a bat does need to be dead in order to test it for rabies. A girl I work with volunteers with a wildlife rescue group here. She's had itty-bitty baby bats in a cage at work feeding them every few hours. Kinda cute??? to look at when she's handling them, but not for me. She's also brought in a couple of baby possums so they could be fed every few hours. Again, cute when they're tiny............but the ugliest things EVER when they are adults. She just gushes over them saying how cute they all are. Good luck with the test results |
speleogirl, i love animals too but when it comes to someones life,im sure you understand that must be the first concern MandyMissouri, dont go find another forum...we are just big animal lovers here!!! I completely understand you decision! |
