Ohhh, ok. I get you now. I shaved down Goldens before & I was itching all over like I had itching powder all over me. It drove me nuts!!:confuse8: As for the groomer lungs, I hope my nose hairs will catch all the fibers...keekee:laugh: I don't like wearing those painter masks, but I think I will. |

W/ respirators??! lol Thanks for the info, def will go check it out. I can't find anything @ Home Depot! lol I can't stand face masks either...there's probably a 'phobic' name for it. Here's what I found googling: Such fears often go back to a previous unpleasant experience; for example, in the dentist's chair! I hate going to the dentist...:teethysmi |
omg i shaved a golden today and i was so itchy. he had really thick hair and it was everywhere. i hate when its on my face because i just keep touching it and then i get zits... i also hate when the hair gets in the crook of your elbow. so itchy. drives me insane. i don't know about that cocker hair thing. that seems that it can't possibly be true, ya know. i'll have to look it up. |
oh and surgical masks can get very very hot. i had to wear them all the time since i worked for a surgeon, LOL, and if its hot in the room the mask just makes it worse. |
Hi Kellie OMGaaawd, I know what you mean about the elbow thing...sooo itchy!!:tongue022 I get zits all over my face too, yucky!!:tongue019 It drives me bonkers when I get hair in my eye!!:tongue030 But...don't you just love it when the dog you just groomed gets soo happy afterwards??:dogwalk: Don't they look at you like you're their new best buddy?? keekee I love it!:2hearts2: |
Congrats I have been a groomer for over 30 years. Wow! that makes me sound really old. lol You do learn in time different ways to handle each dog as you groom more & more. Yes, I get days that I am soooo tired. It does keep you young all that booping around. I do love my job though. Being my own boss is a plus. I love talking to people about their dogs too! Okay, I have to say yorkies are my favorite dogs to groom. I do groom a lot of yorkies too. |

My advise would be to keep notes on all the dogs you groom. Not just the styles, but any problems the dogs might have given you in the past. Even if their good most of the time there might be something they just don't like having done too much. This way you remember how you handle each one & you will remember what technique worked or didn't work. It saves a lot of time. My other advise would be is that I cut the nails first & I try to do the grooming they don't like first if it's something I can do before the bath. Most of the dogs I groom don't like their nails cut, so I get it done & over with. I do try to stay with a routine, so each dog gets use to having their haircut in the same order, so they kind of know what I am going to do next. Here's a problem I have had with a yorkie. I just groomed a yorkie that shakes his head or trys to bite me when I try to brush or trim his head. He will not let me hold his head. Through trying different ways to groom him. I have found out that if I trim his face from him facing away from me he just sits there & lets me groom him. He just doesn't like his head held or facing me. I got him as my customer, by other groomers they brought him to couldn't groom him. He is better each time I do him. I do keep a very mellow attitude when I groom, so they are not afraid it helps to. I have a lot of dogs that fall asleep while I groom them because they know I am very gentle with them. I think they also like the sound of the scissors. lol I do talk to them too. I do keep mellow music on, it is very soothing to them, they don't like loud music it gets them sturred up. lol I hope this helps. |
