Help...Have you ever heard of the National Young Scholars Program??

My daughter is in 5th grade and she got an "invitation" to attend this program...........it sounds awesome, and she got nominated by her teacher for being mature and getting good grades.......She is in TAG(talented and Gifted Program) but it is $1990.00 for 6 days and 5 nights........ouch It kind of sounds like a rip off........but has anyone here heard about it or had their kids done this program?? Thank You.

I also have a 7th grader, he just brought me a letter from the National Junior Honor Society........but the difference is, that it's free.......It sounds like a better program. My son is also in TAG, and at the begging of the school year he did get an invitation to do a program for 7th graders to attend a university but it also required a tuition.....(he did not do it due to his lungs collapsing and he had surgery) but are these good programs??? If anyone can share any info, I would really appreciate it...


My 11 year old daughter is soooooooooooooooo excited and she feels special (and she is) but I dont have that kind of money.......I feel sad.....

Thank You, the website link did come in the letter, and I also found that discussion forum......but I wanted to see if anyone here had any personal experience.........Thank You so much though

I have no experience with this particular program, but when between my son's 7th & 8th grade year, he was invited to do a trip with Student Ambassadors. The cost for 3 weeks was $3500 and they went from Detroit to a couple different parts of Germany (each child had a home stay with a German family for a week), then to Paris and London (where they got to sit in on a parliment session) before returning home. We did lots of fundraising prior to his trip - which raised about 1/2 the needed $.

They had 6 weeks of getting to know you sessions before the students left (there were 34 in his group) that required group projects and presentations on the countries and customs they would be visiting. They were each responsible for all their own items while traveling, including their passports and spending money. They were only allowed one suitcase that had to fit in an overhead compartment, so washing out underwear happened as well.

It was a tremendous learning experience for him as well as a growing experience since he had never been away from home, other than to stay with grandma for a couple days. He was definitely a different child when he came home and very appreciative for the opportunity.
