We pulled up the carpet last year and my DH, my ex, and my BIL installed it. Not the greatest job as several planks have separated with no easy way to close the gaps. It has been months and I still am waiting for them to finish putting the molding and quarter round stripping on in some places. If I had to do it over, I'd pay someone, and we wouldn't have purchased from a liquidation company...would go for the Pergo. Half tempted to get my carpet back... As for clean up, I use a broom and dust pan, or my little Swiffer vac, and then use The Shark. The dogs do well with walking on it and don't really slide. I love being able to put my area rugs on it...very versatile. |
I have Pergo in my living room and my little guy Dex can not jump on the couch ... its just too slippery... when they run from the tile to the pergo they slide when trying to stop and more than once have hit their little head on the sliding glass door. Luckily not too hard. If you go pergo get some throw rugs... oh yeah also my boys do have accidents in the house and it has started to lift the seams of the pergo a bit in places. I moved into the house like this and it looks nice... but if i had to replace it I would go with hardwood, not pergo again. |

So I am hoping Laminate will be a much better experience. I do know it doesn't scratch as easily as the guy at Lowes took a knife to one to show me how it holds up to scratching and I was pretty impressed. Quote:
We saw a few of the cheaper brands that we liked but we figured to go with the Pergo as the guarantee is much longer and is suppose to hold up better. Looks like that was a good decision!! |

I am hoping that if we seal all the edges with the glue/sealant that was suggested that this wouldn't be a problem. We have linoleum in the puppy room and they found a way of making a hole in it and then from there tearing it up. So we really can only go with tile or laminate. We have tile in the kitchen and it is just wonderful!! So easy to take care of and you don't have to worry about accidents. The only downside is, it is always soooo cold!! The family room was built over a huge crawl space so there is no installation so the floor gets cold. Laminate would still be warmer than tile I would think. |

We were actually planning on having a big rug around the couch. That way they can get some traction in some areas. And then when we have puppies we can just roll it up. The adults we don't have to worry about with accidents as they are well trained. It is having puppies and going through the process of training them where accidents occur. Thanks everyone for your input!! I have a lot to think about and consider!! If it wasn't so expensive I would just have tile put in with heating underneath as I know tile holds up beautifully. If only it wasn't so pricey. |
I have had my laminate down for almost a year. Mine was not glued at the seams and if you have a pee accident that sits over a seam it will swell up the laminate. Other than finding that out I love the floors and they are so easy to take care of. I am a breeder and my dogs are trained for the washable pee pads but they do have an occasional accident off the edge of a pad. It is fine if I catch it right away otherwise it does lift the flooring. |
