Jason's Aunt's "wedding" 4 Attachment(s) Some of you may remember me talking about Jason's Aunt Lisa before. She has Down's syndrome. Jason's mom recently gained guardianship of her when Grandpa passed away in January :( . Well Lisa has always wanted a big wedding and always talks about getting married, and even has an imaginary fiance' Zachary Applegate. She has been looking through bridal catalogs and been hounding my mil to get her a wedding dress and set a day that she was to get married. So my mil called and asked if I would make her a dress, since she is very very short, about 4 and half feet tall maybe, and very overweight. So I made her a dress and we had her wedding the weekend before last. She was so excited and says her name is now "Mrs. Applegate" ;). Her imaginary husband got to move out of the attic and into her room now since they are married, lol. She was just sooooo happy. Anyway, here are pictures from her wedding at my mil's house. My husband was the pastor, lol. |
How sweet. What a beautiful bride - her joy is written all over her face. |
That's adorable! |
That has got to be the sweetest thing ever. She looks so beautiful and happy. I LOVE the pic of her throwing the bouquet. I'm glad Mr. Applegate finally got to move out of the attic. ;) |
That's sweet. Her wedding day is a day she will remember forever. Your MIL was right to let her have her day and I hope her and 'Zachary' will be happy for a long time to come. |
What a sweet family you have! You did a great job on her dress, she looks radiant! |

LOL...that is so cute!! You did a good job on the dress:thumbup: And I think it should be the other way around...shouldn't the husband get moved "into" the attic after the wedding??!!! LOL Love the pics! That's great how the whole family is participating...did they seal it with a kiss too? And did your hubby write the reading? He is really into it. |
What a sweet story. Its so nice to see her taking care of and you guys being understanding of her needs. Great Job on the dress. I bet Mr. Applegate is happy to be out of the attic now. |
What a sweet family you have. |

that is sooooooooooooooooooooo AWESOME!!! I have a step brother that has Down's syndrome and he always has a girlfriend that he loves!! and its soooooooooooooooooo cute to watch him with his gf!!! that is a really sweet thing your mil did for her!!! :) congrats to the happy couple!!! |
Thanks everyone! It really was a fun time. My mil caught the bouquet...I think. And she sealed it with a kiss all right, and over and over again while she was sitting on the couch with "him" lol. She cracks me up. My husband didn't write the sermon, I printed it up off from a marriage site, lol. Although Grandpa always has wanted Jason to be a pastor, lol. Grandma, Lisa's mom, died about 7 years ago now of alzheimers. She had it for 20 years. I have known Jason for 15 years, and she was quite far gone when I met her. Grandpa took care of her till the day she died, refused to put her in a home, and did great with her. Along with that, he raised Lisa too. He taught her to write and she can read at about an early first grade level. So since last fall we had been taking care of him since he had developed dimentia as a result of poor heart function. He passed away at home in Jan while my husband and I were caring for him. He always made us promise he wouldn't go into a home. He deserved to be well taken care of. He carried grandma to their bed every night until just about a year before she died. Just thinking about it makes me cry. They were married 63 years. I just loved him so much and he wanted the world for Lisa, so this was the least we could do. He demonstrated the ultimate in unconditional love in his marriage and in the way he took care of Lisa. I am so blessed to have known him and to have a husband that is so much like him. |
What a great man & family. LOVE it!!! |
i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this story. It's so nice to see this kind of love nowadays! Thank you for sharing this! :) |

This story is very touching. You are very sweet to do this wedding for her. My former sister-in-law, who was my age, had Downs Syndrome. She was such a sweet soul, and very loving. She passed away last year at age 49, and it was just so sad. |

You guys are so awesome for making her dream come true! Every little girl deserves the wedding of her dreams, and I am so happy to hear that you all made Lisa's dream a reality! You did an amazing job on her dress and I know she'll love it forever! |
That was such a special thing to do! Thanks so much for sharing such a beautiful story! |
Who's to say she "doesn't" have a Mr. Applegate. Kids especially see the spirits on the other side, and she has the innocent mind to do that. Next, you did an amazing job on that satin. I've tried sewing with that and failed. It is very difficult to work with. I applaud you! You have an amazing and loving family, and so dedicated to each other. That is so rare. I never had a real family, and if I could choose one, it would be like yours for sure. Congratulations!!:thumbup: |
