Education is the key. Years ago I worked in a shelter for 1 year, I had to quit as I had to pick what dogs would have to be put to sleep that week. :( I would come home crying all the time, and friends and family would run when they saw me because I would try to give them a dog. You can't save them all. I get so mad when people don't spay their dogs if they had to kill them like I did maybe they would change. I don't even talk about that time in my life to often I was young and I thought working in a shelter how "fun"I get to play with the animals. And puppy mills are no better. |

Oh your post is really touching, I'm so sorry you had to see that in person. How horrible for you. I get really upset when people defend their right to breed as many dogs as they want. Even the leash law that required mandatory neutering if the dog was caught three times, most people said that this wasn't fair, and what about "show dogs" they would ask. What show breeder allows the dogs to roam free three times? Unneutered dogs are much more likely to try to get out, but people have to take special precautions so this doesn't happen. I just think if more people could see for themselves, what happens at the pound, and in puppy mills, they might be more accepting of some of this legislation. I know the experience you had was painful, but you will be able to help others realize, indiscriminate breeding is very harmful, to dogs, as well as humans. |
What a heart touching post Nancy. Yes, I can imagine Buddy behind a cage looking out because that is how I found him. Once he was in my arms there was no way he was going back in it either, even tho he wanted to, to get away from me. LOL It's all he knew at 14 wks. I often think about that moment when I found him and him looking out with tears in my eyes. I was one of the lucky ones I know. Sure I will be very happy to sign up. I pray often that our government looks more seriously at puppymills and BYB as cruelty to animals. Afterall they are suppose to be man's best friend but what is man doing to them? |
I think the punishment for a puppy miller is to have them caged and living/eating in the same conditions for same amount of time that the poor baby had to:D |
That was a good post.:thumbup:it would be great if more breeders and other people joined yap. Thanks for sharing this post with everyone!:) |
