What is with Wal-Mart Good golly, what in the world is with Wal-Mart these days???? Weeks ago went to get the mustache trimmer for trimming the girls and couldn't find it, a $12.88 item, lo and behold it was behind locked glass doors, had to get a clerk to help and then was told she had to take it to the check out Register 20 and I could pay at any register and they would bring it there to pay for it. Well, yesterday evening (same store) I wanted face cream, couldn't find it, once again clerk told me it was locked up she got it, Jack wanted a new Norelco shaver, same thing locked up, sooooooooooooo proceded to check out Register 20 and then clerk has the stash piled up behind her of other customers items (several different brands of face cream) she was able to finally find my creams then the Norelco, I paid for everything beings I was stressed out from the ordeal of all this and added difficulty at this point with my vision from all the stress. After paying Jack said it was not the electric shaver he picked out, so back we go to the register, (there was two other Norelco items besides his there on customer holds :( this whole process of finally paying at the Register 20 check out and getting help to get what we wanted stashed behind locked glass sliding doors took close to 45 minutes of our time not to mention the frustration. My question is this, is it like this in other Wal-Mart stores or is it just the ones in our area? Needless to say, when I got home opened the bag out came my much needed cough drops, grumbling looking at the rest of the stuff, I decided to just leave everything in the bag and return it and get my money back and go purchase them elsewhere where....I already phoned to tell the manager this morning to let them know exactly how I feel. Good golly, wonder how the managers would like to have to put up with this kind of shopping episode if it were them shopping, don't think they would like it either. Now I will have to search out a store that tends to make shopping so much less stressful and will appreciate us more as a regular use to be Wal-Mart shopper. The comment I get from the store..... is due to so much theft this is what they are doing now and that they will be adding more glass sliding doors and locking more things up, all I can say is Wal-Mart good bye from this ole gal and Jack. Oh my gosh, we know that the economy is in a mess and things are really bad and everyone is paying for it one way or another but now this in a big chain store here, what next????????????? Sorry for the long post but just had to get this out and curious if others have experienced this in your area? Patti and Jack |
Our store does that with some items, too. They are just being ripped off left and right and I guess this is their way of trying to stop that. I would imagine that if they have people stealing SO much that prices will go up, up, up. We can thank those less than honest people who think they can just take whatever they want...:( Yes, it can get very frustrating though, can't it???? |
I dont think the three walmarts around me are doing it but theft is getting really bad so I'm sure they are just trying to protect themselfs. |
I don't think the Wal-Marts around here are doing that... They lock up things like video games and other electronics, but that's it... |
Walmarts around here don't do that either. They only lock electronics and video games. |
They do that here with a lot of things- razors, shaving cream, deodorant, etc- at Kmart, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, and the like. |
Around here, the video games are behind lock and key - as well as the electric razors and replacement blades. I'm sure there's more - but those are the items that come to my mind. In addition, Missouri is the #1 meth state and sudaed is one the the needed ingredients to make meth - so in addition to some high-theft items behind lock and key, all sudafed and sudefed related products are behind the pharmacy. All purchasers must provide a driver's license and sign out their sudafed purchase. Recently, there has been talk that all cold-related medication must be distributed by prescription only. Yeah, Good Golly says it all!! :) |
Thank goodness our Walmart isn't like that, or I'd go elsewhere. It's nice to save money, but not worth the hassle. I hope and pray they don't do that here! There are things locked...like electronics and higher priced items, and the cold medications that are used to make meth. Anywhere you go around here for cold meds, you have to sign your life away in order to buy it! I don't blame you for being upset, Patti! Hope you find a different place where it isn't so stressful to shop! |
I know how you feel. During Christmas, took my Mom to WalMart to get my Dad a razor. Same thing.....behind locked glass doors! Waited forever to get someone to unlock for us. Then they had to take to the register themselves for us to checkout. Also noticed while shopping @Ross Stores lately, they have lots of security personnel. Shoplifters to blame for sure!! |
Good grief! What an ordeal! :( Luckily, I\'ve not had to experience anything like that at our Wal-Mart |
Maybe Walmart should beef up security in stead of locking up stuff. You can\'t lockup everything although I do understand them having to electronics etc. My husband needed a new Norelco too and instead of standing in line for an hour because they are cutting back on checkers at Walmart too, I just went to Walgreens and was in and out in no time. |
I was told that Walmart had Vitron-C so I looked and couldn\'t find it. I asked the Pharmacy Dept and they said only the Super Walmarts carried it and it was kept behind the phamacy counter, I\'d have to ask for it. I said do I need a prescription for it? No. Is it very expensive? No. So why is it behind the counter instead of out with the other vitamins? I don\'t know. This was a couple years ago before the economy went south. I never did get a reason for it being behind the counter. However I did find that the Target Pharmacy has it behind their counter too. |
Thanks everyone Thanks for you all posting back, sorry that it is happening other places too. Minus my cough drops...... I returned everything else back to the store totaling $136.00 they can have their customer store policies. We have our shopping policies too :D the only reason we went there was for convenience but then with their changes and the way they are doing, it certainly is no longer convenience shopping for us. Did you tell the store why you were returning everything and not shopping there anymore? Thanks for mentioning the military families. Our future son in law leaves for Iraq today. |
I refuse to go to wal mart unless absolutely necessary after a similar experience. Plus now our wal mart makes you stand in line once at the door to check your the items you are returning and then AGAIN at the service desk. Needless to say... I rarely buy things that I might have to return. Usually it takes a good half half hour of standing in line just to return something. |
