Rescuing My Family from Ground Zero !!! Finally the call I have been waiting for!!! Even with all my attempts to reach my daughter and I couldn't get through. Katie was finally able to get a call to me.... We are going tomorrow to attempt to rescue my grandchildren and her. They are in what they are calling ground zero. But they have nothing, no water, ice, electricity, barely any food left and only one day of formula left for the baby of 3 months. They have saved what little water they have for the formula. Baby Nathaniel is teething and not doing well in the heat and Katie feels he should be seen by a doctor. They think the Red Cross is delivering in their area tomorrow, but no way of communicating, just the luck of the draw on getting a outside line on the cell phones. They can't even buy gas to get out if they wanted too. And we have to wait until tomorrow, when we are expecting a gas delivery, everyone is sold out. To make sure we will have enough gas to get in and out. We will bring them what supplies we can bring to those that we be staying, and hopefully be able to rescue Katie and the babies. There are barricades in Hattiesburg, but she said her sister-in-law was able to come through to get her children that were staying with her mother-in-law. So we are hoping for the same consideration. I will go in on foot if I have too or be arrested, but I will not stop until I have them safe with me. No disrespect intended... we are all complaining about the gas prices, but I will tell you this I would rather pay $5.00 a gallon for gas than go through what those poor people have to go through because of the Katrina, we need to be thankful for what we have, as others are feeling hungry, scared, homeless and desperate. Keep up in your prayers and wish us luck. I will keep you posted on our rescue..... |
Good luck you. I have been crying all night while viewing the horrific scenes for the Gulf coast :( I hope your daughter and her family are safe and everyone in that area finds shelter and happiness in what they have left |
Oh my gracious, thank goodness they are okay! I can't tell you how terrible I feel for you and them. Please post as soon as you can on the rescue. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers! |
oh my gosh, i'll have you in my thoughts and prayers, good luck in the rescue. please keep us posted and let us know how you are all doing soon. |
I have also been crying all night. The babies is what bothers me the most. Good luck, I hope we hear good news from you soon. I will be thinking of you and saying prayers for everyone tonight. |
Your post brought tears to my eyes. I am having a hard time doing anything except for thinking about all the poor people who are suffering. Your family is in my prayers |
The best of luck to you! They should never try to stop a mother from saving her babies, huh? :) |
As deperate as my story is, I can only think of those that have lost everything. If you sit and think about it... no home, no job, no belongings and probably no money..... the desperation they must feel. And I sit in my home with electricity, air conditioning, food, water, television, a phone, clothes and the list goes on of all my blessings. It just saddens me and my heart feels so heavy. and I feel so greatful for what I have and come to appreciate it even more now. Tomorrow maybe a hard day for me to see how my family has suffered, but we have each other and will get through this with God's help. I also would like to thank all of the YT members that have sent me support, prayers and emails concerning my family, this has helped me through my trying time. I will keep everyone posted on how we do tomorrow. Thank you all and God Bless. |
Good Luck to you in getting to your family. I feel so sad about this whole thing. I will say a little prayer for you and for all the other people who may not even have family who can get to them. You go and get your loved ones. Bring them to safety, especially the babies. This whole thing is sooo sad.... everything about it. I was eating dinner tonight, and I felt quilty and could't eat. My stomach is so upset, I can't sleep, nothing.... My heart goes out to everyone who lost everything. I too have been crying and have had the news on from morning til night... All I can do is Pray and make a financial contribution....I wish I could do more. I will pray for you that your rescue goes well... Please let us know how it goes...When you see them, hug them like there is no tomarrow!!! They need all the love and support they can get during this crisis. And be grateful that they made it thru. |
Good Luck Be safe ..... you all are in our prayers . |
My heart goes out to you and I will pray for you to have a successful rescue! You will be in my thoughts tomorrow! Best wishes to you! I am so heartsick over all of this. I have family in New Orleans and as far as I know, they are safe...but we can't get ahold of them at the place they are supposed to be and one family we don't even know if they evacuated, but I'm sure they did. All three families have lost everything as far as we can figure. That, along with all the news on the TV, I have cried over and over again. I can't think of anything else. I only wish this was a bad nightmare and I'd wake up soon! |
Connie I understand what you are going through. It was 5:00 pm yesterday evening when I was able to get one precious moment to hear my family was alive. Then this evening at about 8:30 pm Katie's call came to come and help. I had no clue where everyone was at after the storm and the call from yesterday was just enough to know Katie and family were alive and the phone went dead...But I have walked the floors and have cried since Katrina made landfall, even as the winds whipped here I was numb... I will pray for your family as well, to bring news to you soon and all the others that are wait... This is one of the worst feelings, one can feel. :( |
Sue- wherre is Katie Staying, do you guys know where she is and will you be able to get them? I was just thinking about that poor baby, I feel horrible for everyone involved :( |
Sue, you have our heartfelt prayers tonight. I know you will triumph in your mission to get them to safety. Floods are no match for a determined mother. Bless you and yours. |
Yes we have finally have a location on Katie. They have all come together at her mother-in-laws home it is right on hiway 49. This is homebase for them due to the fact it is on a main road and will be able to get help from the Red Cross as soon as they arrive. Since there is little gas they will share what they have to get supplies... We will bring what we can to them just in case the Red Cross doesn\'t make it tomorrow. Katie tells me this road has been cleared as it is the main hiways to the coast Gulf Shores or Biloxi I can\'t remember which one. |
that is wonderful news!!!! i will continue to pray for everyone\'s families! |
I will have you and your family in my prayers. Please be safe and I know you will get to rescue your daugther and kids. Please keep us posted when you can. Best of luck. |
I\'m happy to hear that your family is okay!! Thank goodness! Good luck and God bless!! |
Sue, I am so thankful that you finally heard from your daughter! I wish I were still in Alabama ... I would drive down and help you! We flew back to Colorado on Sunday, just ahead of the storms in east central AL. We will keep you all in our prayers! |
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated. |
Sue, you guys are in our hearts and prayers! Our local radio stations were doing fundraising events yesterday. One station was collecting diapers, wipes & feminine products. The other was teaming with Lowes and the Red Cross to collect $. Lowe\'s will match all donations up to $1,000,000!!! THat is tremendous on the part of Lowe\'s. I drove up to Lowe\'s and told my son we were going to make a donation. He said " Mom, you can donate my birthday money." That was so sweet, but I told him that I would make a big donation on behalf of all of our family members. It felt SO GOOD to make that donation. I just wish that I could be there locally to help hand out food and water to those in need. My new HDTV will just have to wait....and I\'m SO okay with that. We are counting our blessings and holding our loved ones tight. |
Be Safe!! my heart goes out to you and your family!! |
This is the first time in my life I have ever seen real American refugees! I wish there wa some way to get some of them out of there. I\'d open my home to a few and I bet there are thousands of other Americans who would also. It will be interesting to see if all the countries in the world whom we have helped will lift a finger to help America! |
France, Russia, Canada, Japan are the countries that I\'ve heard on the news donated significant amounts of money thusfar. There are some people in Chicago driving down with 10-12 school buses full of supplies. I hope that they can get through to help those in need. |
i\'m glad some countries are helping. |
I\'m so glad that you have heard from your family and that are safe. I hope you guys are able to get through to them and get them out. Good Luck and Keep us posted. I just heard on the news that Disney has donated $2.5 million to the cause and all the other countries and of course individuals that have also donated. It puts things in perspective when something like this happens. Just too bad that it takes a catastrophe like this to make you realize how truly blessed we are. I just keep thinking about all the people in that area and I can\'t help but to cry for them. Hopefully it won\'t take long for all the supplies to get there. |
A christian radio station in the area is sending truck loads of supplies. Their sister stations all across the station are doing so as well. I\'ve read that pharmaceutical companies are sending needed medications, water companies have donated water, churches are feeding the hungry and folks are opening up their homes. Like Kristy said, other countries are donating as well. It is so heartwarming to see everyone open their hearts and pocketbooks during this traumatic time. |
Sue...thanks for your message and prayers. I am thinking of you today and praying all goes well in your rescue mission. I\'m so happy that you found out they are alive and can soon be reunited with them! I heard from family today...most of them are in Arkansas and doing fine. The other family is believed to be in Houston and they all think they are also safe! It is a load off my mind to know they are all okay. They get treated so well in Arkansas. When they go to fruit stands, the people ask where they are from and when they tell them New Orleans, the people tell them to put their money away and just give them the fruit. One seller was handing things out to people and she was crying so hard as she passed out free fruit to people. I wish I was closer and could be of help. Once again...good luck in your rescue! You\'re in my prayers! Give them all a big hug from me!!! |
OMG! I just read this. My prayers are with you for safe passage to Katie and the babies! I have heard so many stories but this hits home. Lisa |
That\'s wonderful news that your family is safe and I know you\'ll be so glad to get to them. We\'ve been watching the news and it seems like this is happening in another country!! Those horrible pictures can\'t be the United States! The devastation that we are seeing is unbelievable! Good luck and be safe! |
