Puppy Mill Protester Tackled by Mall Cops * Protester Tackled By Mall Cop During Peaceful Protest [The Veg Blog] He was just trying to voice his opinion. What happened to freedom of speech? |
Well considering I'm "Mom" to an ex puppymill survivor, I saw nothing wrong with these kids expressing their freedom of speech. They weren't harassing any customers or anyone else. As for the young man being put in handcuffs, it's a sad day when a person cannot raise their voice in this country. Word needs to get out about puppymills and to get the attention of the public. One only needs to go to the website prisonersofgreed to see the real story.:animal-pa |
While I'm all for stopping puppy mills isn't a mall considered private property? If so, I don't know if "freedom of speech" is applicable. |

Good point! I hadn't thought of that either! But still, Good for them!!!! :D |
I don't get it, they guy wasn't even cheering. That was a bit weird. He was just standing there for all I can see, just like a lot of the people there. Maybe there's audio to it, but I'm in the library so shhhh!!! I'll watch it again when I get home. |
I think everyone should make a thousand copies about information on puppy mills, and hand them out in front of every pet store that sells animals, but be careful how close you stand in front of the store. Find out first the law about how many feet. |
Kyle - I hadn't even thought of that. Someone should look that up! I would, but I'm too lazy right now. :p I'd really like to know the answer to this though. Because if not, then there could be a serious issue there. I think what they should've done was protested outside the mall, not just outside the store. I do find it interesting though that the cheerleaders were there for like 5 minutes and no one did anything, and as soon as the guy started talking security was tackling him. That's not fair. |

That just was unfair, even if the mall is private property. At least they sent a message to those who stood around for a while. Let's just hope that message sinks in. |
Even though the message was loud and clear, I think the bimbos with the pompoms should have been escourted off the property as well. Their tactics are VERY much like peta. Not only are they disturbing the business at the pet store, they are disturbing the other businesses in the mall. These people fall into the same catagory as the protestors at military funerals. |

What a perv that security guard was. Didn't seem to have any problem getting his little own show. Guess the guy protester should have worn a skirt.:p There are laws on protesting on private property and they weren't exactly sneaky about it.:D |

That's a new one. |

Although it was private property, and not the place for a legal protest, sometimes you have to bend the rules for an important cause. Unfortunately, the activities of some animal rights groups have turned off many people to listen to any protest. These girls didn't stop or interfere with customers wanting to access the store, and they weren't throwing things on them. It was a peaceful protest. I'm not sure why the man was handled so roughly, perhaps he was the one on the loud speaker, but the way they treated him was pretty much the same way puppy mill dogs are treated. On the other hand, what were the security cops suppose to do? They want to keep their jobs. |

I need to quit my job, hand back my bachelors degree, annihilate my GPA -- and go try out for the Suns' cheer squad. I'm totally sunk. :p |

Too all of you that replied to my post:(cant get that multi post thing yet) If I had a business next door to that pet store, I would have called the police and not left it to the "security guards". Those girls were totally obnoxious and if I were a customer, I would turn around a go a different way. And , yes, they are on the same level as the military funeral hecklers. There are other ways of getting ones point across. I agree with their points of view, I just dont agree with the tactics they use. Wheres Paul Blart when you need him!!!LOL |
I'm sorry - I guess I just don't understand how you can compare them to the jerks who protest at military funerals. I'm not trying to argue or anything. This just really baffled me and I'd like to understand your way of thinking. There is a huge difference between being annoying protestors and what the people who protest military funerals do. and, most protests are pretty annoying. If people just stood around staring at each other it wouldn't get the point across very well lol. the idea is to bring attention to it, not get as little attention as possible. |

I guess I'm willing to be a little annoyed so that important topics will be brought to my attention. Protesters have done a lot to get this country where it is today. I think we would still be under England's rule if nobody believed in protesting. How about women's voting rights, don't you think those women must have been annoying parading around bringing scads of attention to themselves? The protesters of the 60's got us out of the Vietnam War, and they were annoying too. To me this was a well-executed protest, nobody was hurt or endangered, just annoyed. Not sure about the male protester, I don't, know if he was hurt, but that's one of the drawbacks of protesting. He probably was asked to leave peacefully and refused, and this made better video. The mall has every right to remove those people breaking the rules, and with video cameras the message was probably relayed on their local news channels so that people were made aware of the problem. Before we can fix the roof, we have to know there is a leak. |
