I also like, "Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." The full quote is, "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~Dr. Seuss |

From my husband: 90 % of what comes out of a truckdrivers mouth is BS, the other 10% you just gotta wonder about! From my mom: your shoulders shouldn't weigh 1000 pds. Also "Lora god didnot intend for you to be lifes rug"..... :aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal-pa |
The best advice/statement i have heard recently was by my professor for a teaching class. I am working on a degree towards teaching, and we were talking about giving praise to your students and how not to over use words/phrases. Anyway to make a long story short this is what he said. Give me my flowers so that i may enjoy them now, not when I'm six feet under. Another one i have grown up to follow is the following: A quitter never wins, and a winner never quits! And last one which is my personal FAVORITE! Failure is not succeeding, failure is never trying in the first place |
Always wear clean underwear in case you get hit by a bus:D. |
omg... these are all so good. I have a few more to add: My aunt once told me this and for some reason it stuck with me. "If you love someone let them go, if they come back it was meant to be." Another one is "A loser makes a promise, a winner makes a commitment." I keep this in mind when I think of my exboyfriend. He was full of false promises! I also think about it while I am in school. I want to finish my Bachelors so bad and Im committed to doing it now. And my parents raised us to "Respect your elders." Last one, I have learned more and more over the last couple years and wish more people would learn it "Never judge someone until you walked a mile in their shoes" |
My dear Mom told me many times...and I used this many times and still do: Some things are better left unsaid. Another comes to mind...Worry is payment in advance for a debt you may never owe. |
"Never judge a book by it's cover!" Quote:

These are all soooo great. Funny, I was just thinking of the underwear one and yes my Mother really said that. Connie I never heard your "Worry is payment in advance for a debt you may never owe." but it is so true and such good advise. |
My Mom - You've gotta take the bitter with the better. & later my husband - The bad times make you really appreciate the good times. |

"What doesn't kill you will make you stronger"...My Dads mother, my Nanny told me that when I was a little kid!! My husband and I lost 5 children. I kept asking WHY!! Then she said don't you remember what I told you Baby?? I stopped asking and adopted 2 Beautiful daughters from South Korea!! Thank-You Nanny...:rip: Feb.20, 1993...I'll Love and Miss You Forever... :lovewings:rose::2hearts2: |
stand for something, or you'll fall for anything time heals all wounds & everything happens for a reason. |
My favorite quote I heard the other day and I have found it to be more true the more I think about it... Never Regret anything because at one point it was what you wanted. More of my favorites.. Never go to sleep angry Sometimes what you think you want you don't need. When in doubt...don't Never Conform |
These are all good...my mother and I were having a conversation about my daughter just yesterday. Of course, mom is right. I need to get my daughter involved in sports...she's 13 now. My mother stated, "A tired mind and tired body will keep a teenager out of trouble." I believe there is wisdom in those words. It's the bored teenagers that will find trouble...I need to get my daughter busy before it gets to that. |
i really like this one :) Quote:
i have heard a variation on this one before Quote:

i remember my mother forcing me to get involved with things that i had no interest in, it was really torturous for me, yea, i didn't have time to get in trouble, but i also hated my life, and resented her for forcing me to do something i didn't enjoy... |

I have to add another that I was thinking of last night. My Dad would start these interesting conversations at the dinner table (I think to try to make us use our brains:eek:) Anyway one night my brother answered with " I know it's right Dad, I read it in the paper" and of course Dad said "Never believe everthing you read" and that is so true. He also said ALWAYS look at a situation from both person's point of view to make a decision and I try to always do that...............except when I already made up my mind:D Sorry Dad. |

it reminds me of when i was in grad school, i had a teacher who refused to give me my 'A' on my papers! i thought my papers were flawless, but of course the teacher didn't think so! so i pulled aside a student who got A on his paper, and asked him how to do it. he showed me his paper, and explain to me how i can improve my arguments. what happened was i would not address any ideas that would counter the point i was trying to argue in my paper, i thought if i even brought them up, it would weaken my argument. the 'A paper student' told me that by not bring up the opposing points, it didn't mean those points did not exist. and that the best thing to do is to acknowledge those points, and then point out why they are not valid points. then my grade finally improved once i started doing that. :p |

You will get a kick out of this one. My brother was late getting home from school and when he came in my Dad said "Why are you Late" and he said I had to stay after for talking" and "I wasn't talking" So Dad says "chack it up for all the times the teacher missed catching you when you were." You can see i had some good lines to use on my kids.:D |
